  • ‪@RetiredTranquilinThailand‬update on week 5 build of RAce Country Cottage in That Phanom, Thailand. This week is about footing column extensions, ground beam installed, plinth (main) beam work commenced & significant land sculpting. A good overview of the building techniques that are used in Thailand to construct a house.

I find these foundations far superior to the floating concrete foundations in NZ. Why, when an earthquake happens the floating foundations seem to have more damage, whereas, the in ground foundations there appears to be less damage. This is contrary to what the so called earthquake specialists will tell you. Looking great….congratulations.

Thank you for your great videos!
I stumbled upon your UA-cam site and have been watching your videos with interest.
I will retire in November and the plan is to build a detached house on a plot of land in southern Thailand.
Now I would like to ask, how did you get the drawings for your house?
Your house is largely in accordance with my own plans.
    Keep making your good videos!

@@HePeNaTip Hello - I had watched many videos on house designs and plans & having some ideas on what I wanted I sketched up a basic layout. Our builder then drew up the building plans from there & we worked together on final design. I had considered using an architect but in the end I was satisfied with this approach. After many years of living in different houses & with 10 years in Thailand already, along with knowing what space requirements I wanted sketching up my basic design worked for me.
