John Mayer Tone Tip | Subtle Chorus For Thick Tones!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Recently I’ve noticed a subtle change to John Mayer’s tone, which became more noticable during the PRS 40th Anniversary performance. To my ears it sounds like subtle chorus is becoming more of a staple to his tone!

I am always blown away by just how clean John's tone sounds. Especially next to a player with more gain in his setup like Paul Reed. Hearing them play side by side was a great way to hear just how clean John's tone sounds. Love the tip as well. Thank you, Jon.
Yeah his tone is amazing! Paul’s was really cool too.
don't forget modern mixer are digital which means latency (2 or 3 ms) , and where is placed the phone who is recording, it can make a pseudo" chorus" between the sound of his amp and the PA.
this!!!!
That’s not what is happening here though… You can clearly hear a chorus pedal on the official mixed hq audio of these performances.
Exactly. And previous JM Trio performances from the past two years proves he’s been using the CE2 a lot more as an apart of his core tone.
@ you can also add chorus effect on mixing console too
i add it to give a bit of depth to the mic
otherwise the mic sound a bit flat
reproducing a live sound on the QC is tricky at best because you are still not in the same context
but it can be close enouph
and it can be part of his tone
@ True, but the fact that he has an actual CE2 on his board, it's probably just that.
Incredible tone and play!
Thank you! All coming from my Quad Cortex and pedalboard.
Totally agree, thickens individual notes - I am running a Boss GX100 and I always have subtle chorus on all the time, and if I turn it off I think it's too thin. I'm a traditional blues guy but players like john mayer, mark knopfler and chris buck get such incredible clean tones that I am massively dialing back on gain these days.
Thanks,Jon, you’re a wizard!
lol. Thank you!
The star of all your videos is your playing 👏 👏👏
🤦🏻♂️thanks Kevin! Means a lot to me.
Sounds great man! Good job 👍
Thanks Seth!
Great stuff man!
@@thereallbking thank you!
Can you do a video where you show some pedal settings for John Mayer tone
Could be a possibility!
Love a little subtle chorus I do it too haha. But I also love some deep chorus too. Just depends on what I'm doing. God bless! Jesus loves ❤️
Me too!
Settings for this from an HX stomp or one would be amazing. Not the whole rig. Just the chorus
Hi jon! Can u share any ideal knob chorus setting like on you videos? Thanks!
Rate at roughly 10-11 o’clock and depth between 8-9 o’clock.
@ thank you jon! Great work as always! 👍
@@danielmahathir8102 I appreciate it! Hope that helps.
