Thanks for this video, strasale!!! It's so great!!! I was on his gig in Aschaffenburg/ Germany 19 April 2010: sooo amazing:)))) This man will be one legend in the future, i'm sure ;D
@jewelfewel This was written at least one year before Gravity was recorded/released. Both great songs, and both great musicians :) I personally think that JM gets too much credit for his instrumental skills...he is great, but I think he is better as a musician, rather than as just a guitarist. Continuum is probably my favourite album from the 2000's, Peacemachine is a very close second :)
@TurquoiseArmies honestly, i feel jm is very underrated when it comes to instrumental skills, of coarse you just have to dig around for live performances, but his control over his guitar is something i really value and envy in his playing, and my favorite jm is his playing from 2004-2008 currently i feel hes lost a little passion and is trying to get back on track. not trying to argue just my opinion:)
So I'm starting to understand his tone. He has a fuzz on the whole time and uses his volume knob on the guitar to affect the amount of fuzz that's coming through. The fuzz itself is turned down a bit though. That's the trick. I believe its the Ge Square face that he uses turned down, and the vintage fuzz face he has turned all the way up. Am I wrong?
i don't think so. i think he uses the klon centaur turned on all the time, and turns the fuzz on in the heavier parts of the song (besides the fuzz, he has an octafuzz too)
jewelfewel too bad this guys been around longer than mayer..... especially in the guitar avenue of music. mayer looks up to phillip.. lime a looooong way up..

how does he do that at 4:15
practise
he touches the string with his middle finger and pick the string
The bassist needed to change his pants after the set, he was feeling the guitar crying out so bad
he just goes, "Fuck reality, i need to go paranormal to play this"
*19. mai ':D
@jewelfewel More like Stevie Ray Vaughan's Lenny and Riviera Paradise.
Seth Rogen is pretty good on bass
Gravity much? Every modern bluesman looks up to John Mayer lol

1:17 horrible out of scale glitch + those pathetic expressions...I don't know. He's just a SRV wannabe
