    I am blind, I am going to start studying, exercise sports physiology, within the next year, I live in Texas, this course is excellent, because it’s gonna help me get prepared, so when I go to the university and study it myself, thank you 6:17

    Excellent presentation Dr. Matthews. I have a Masters in Human Biology (Though my professional career has been in the environmental field). I had a 3 class sequence on Guyton’s in grad school and as a life long cycling enthusiast I’ve studied several upper level texts on exercise physiology and put what I learned to good use. That was over 20 years ago. So I’m looking forward to your classes as a reintroduction.
    I do have one question for you. Do you have a suggestion for an introductory book on EP to teach the basic concepts to new or introductory level athletes who lack a science background?
    I’ve tried finding one myself but the ones I’ve found have either been written by a non professional and don’t really understand what they are saying or they’re just plain snake oil.
    Thanks Doc.

      Hi @Mottleydude1.
      This is the only exercise physiology textbook I am aware of that labels itself as introductory. I have not read this myself though. I think you will have a hard time finding an ex phys textbook that does not assume some anatomy and physiology knowledge of the reader.
      www.amazon.com/Introduction-Exercise-Physiology-Tommy-Boone/dp/1449698182
      You might want to look for books that label themselves as introductions to exercise science instead of exercise physiology. Perhaps the book below:

      Good luck!

      Thanks for replying. It's a nice rubric. It reminds me of media literacy training or something similar that colleges require students to take before writing research papers. The colleges want us to make good choices with our works cited. It would probably help everyone around the world if we internalized a rubric like this in our minds. 😅

    I'm one physiotherapist. I want to open my own gym in future. If I'll do Masters in CLINICAL EXERCISE SCIENCE,can I open my own gym after that?

    • @VivoPhys
      @VivoPhys  4 роки тому +2

      In the USA there are no rules on who can open a gym. Obviously more education helps. The type of exercise science degree you get will determine the knowledge you gain. So if you want to work with clinical populations then you should get a clinical exercise science degree. If you want to work with athletes then you should find a program that specializes in that. It is also a good idea to get some business managment education.

    How do you get a peer-reviewed of a specialized program?

    • @VivoPhys
      @VivoPhys  3 роки тому +1

      Hi William Birmingham. When I mentioned peer review in this lecture I was referring to peer reviewed research journals. They do not typically review things like exercise programs, though this may exist in some practitioner journals. Peer reviewed research articles attempt to prove or dis-prove concepts. Knowing a collection of concepts allows a person to create research backed exercise programs. The American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association are good places to look for research driven programming recommendations and potentially some examples.
