Great vid as always Peter. Glad you eventually managed to get the Tamron out of the box! lol ;-) I have the Tamron lens as well. I agree about the underexposure. It also is very lacking in contrast when I use it on my Canon EOS DSLR. I can correct that fairly successfully afterwards in photoshop though. There is a temptation to try and hand hold the lens because it is so small but you REALLY need to use a tripod or at least a monopod to eliminate camera shake. It's also quite tricky to focus as a very tiny movement of the focusing ring can make quite a difference to the point of focus. That all said, if you use it carefully you can achieve some super results with it. I love mine.
that first one looks an awful lot like a Maksutov cassegrain telescope. The others are a bit like Schmidt cassegrains. iirc the exposure difference is something to do with measurement near the obstruction, but I could be wrong. I'm so happy to find this video.
Happy New Year Peter! I loved seeing the comparison; the Tamron is so compact for a 500mm! Any chance we could see some photos made with these lenses any time soon? Just curious if there's much of a difference in optics. Thanks for the video!
Ilsa : at the moment I have not taken much with the Tamron to show - I got one shot of a swan on a nest but the last few taken here in Brentwood were not sharp and under-exposed anyway -- I HAVE shown a few with the Russian on the Video I did about it -- scroll down my list of videos to find it . When the Light improves and I can get out I will try tom show some better 'Tamron' photos. Thanks for viewing.
Hello Peter! I know this is a little off topic but do you have any LTM lenses that you would like to sell? I live close by and I can't get a decent copy anywhere near me for my Voigtländer Bessa R. Im getting desperate... Love your work!
I have my 1936 50mm f2 Summar LTM lens NOT SELLING ! But I have a 35mm wide-angle 'German STAEBLE- Lineogon' LTM fit which does not couple with the Leica II rangefinder and also a RUSSIAN 'Jupiter -11 135mm f4' LTM fit which again does not focus with Leica II Rangefinder. They came with the Lei ca II and Leica III ( which was STOLEN in a Drive-By Theft at Thorpe Park, Surrey years ago. How far away from BRENTWOOD are you then ? You could see if the lenses work with your Bessa R
@@theoldfilmbloke hello Peter and thank you for your reply! I live in Laindon which is a few minutes drive away from Brentwood. I would love to meet and take a look at the lenses and geek out about photography in general if you wouldn't mind. Please contact me via email at kevlar.negative@gmail.com
I had an MTO 1000 , a total beast!
I have my father's tamron 500mm lens and I was given a 2x converter for it from a stranger for postage! Definitely a tripod is needed for that!

Like with most higher magnifications, more light gives you better images.
