🇻🇳 I Found My New FAVOURITE VIETNAMESE NOODLES in NEW HANOI

- Today we are putting our Saigon tour on hold for a couple of days as I've had the opportunity to head to the capital Hanoi to check out the new part of Hanoi, at the Vinhomes Ocean Park.
I wasn't expecting to like the place as I thought it might lack character but there is so much authentic northern Vietnamese restaurants here that it's mind blowing.
Today It's my first time tring Today it's my first time trying Bánh đa cua Hải Phòng, a noodle soup from Northern Vietnam made with a special type of red rice noodles and field crab. This has fast become one of my favourite noodle soups in Vietnam!
It solidified my belief that, even though I live in Thailand, Vietnam has THE BEST SOUPS in the World!

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this UA-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

That street is beautiful. Loving the vibe of New Hanoi. Can’t wait to see more.
Thanks Michelle, I really enjoyed it 👍
I remember going to a Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria/Pimlico years ago, and getting excited when the waitress asked if I'd like a Sky Juice. I was expecting some kind of exotic Vietnamese cocktail, so I was gutted when all I got was a glass of water! 😆
😂😂😂
Was that the Vietnamese in churton street. I think it was called
Mekong. ?? A great little Vietnamese with main restaurant in a basement. 😉👍🏻
it's like disneyland without the crowd.
I'm too dumb for college but I can smell a sponsored video from miles away.
Wow you’re good!
Maybe and miserable and hate change, but I don’t like the newly edited video format. I like the natural causal vibe before. Guessing it was sponsored by Vinhomes Ocean Park
No worries at all Liam, I appreciate the feedback. Yes sponsored for sure but was a good opportunity for me to work with a camera guy as I was toying with the idea of filming like this. Maybe skip tonight’s video and I’ll be back in the old Quarter with a old style casual vibe on Tuesday mate 👍
@@theroamingcook As I say maybe I am just miserable and dislike change! Massive fan of the usual vids Gary, didn’t mean to cause any offence. I am in Thon Buri for June and defo will be checking out some places you went to 👍
It looks like a Vietnamese version of Guildford Surrey. Lol...
😂😂😂
Bravo my good sir. I beleave you have outdone yourself once again. 👍🍻👍🍻
Thank you kindly 🙏
I love Vietnam. Still one of the best kept secrets.
We have a Vietnamese restaurant name PHO! 3 minutes walk from my building 👍🍲 ❤ Arlington Washington State, 🇺🇸
Sounds great!
Interesting color grading, not like your usual videos. Is this the new look? Reminds me of BGC in Manila, Philippines.
Hey Gary, are you in Vietnam for a visa run or you just enjoy going there for the food?
Who's filming you? Great video and the food looks delicious, you make me feel hungry.
Did you borrow Jasper from Adam for this one?
Looking forward to go back to Vietnam and explore New Hanoi, looks absolutely incredible and you have peaked my interests to another level my brother. Love your work 😊
It's 27 years since I was in Hanoi, I loved it then but it looks like it's gone to another level. The misses is wanting to know when we are going. She also wants to know what you have changed to your filming equipment, it also seems to have gone up a level?
Everyone is going to be disappointed when I leave the cameraman after the next episode 😂
@theroamingcook we did suspect that there was another camera man. Either way it's the content that matters
Hmm not sure, looks like its a sponsored video by a real estate developer. Prefer the old streetfood style vids.
Yes it was sponsored. They knew from the start that I wouldn’t put it up if I didn’t enjoy it though. I’ll be back in the old quarter on my own in Tuesday’s video
@@theroamingcook good for you mate, I guess you should always try new things to grow your channel. I'm more a fan of your authentic old school street food videos.
Enjoy Vietnam and hope to join you on a food tour in BK if you're still organise them.
@danielarchutowski6016 100 percent Daniel, I’m not a a fan either 😅. I was a good opportunity for me to work with a really good camera guy which I don’t usually get to do. I was toying with the idea of hiring one for Bangkok but not sure now!
Definitely, let me know next time you’re in town buddy 🙏
@@theroamingcookthe charm and succes of youtube is that you feel you're tagging along with a one man band. If you add a camera guy this changes, but a good camera guy will be added value for sure.
Will be back in BK end of 26-28 April and 17-20 May. What is the best way to reach out, Instagram?
Dude I haven’t watched your videos for a while but wow you’ve made some serious progress in everything! Nice!
Vietnam has one of the world’s fastest growing economies & it shows in the new part of Hanoi. Fascinating city
Love Vietnam en you top videos
Crushing it in New Hanoi!
❤❤❤❤❤ production has much improved
😀
Gary might teach English out there
I don’t think anyone would understand me 😂
I've been watching you for years & your videos have gone to another level. well done!
Thanks mate but when the cameraman leaves after this one they’ll go back down a few levels 😂
That soup does look amazing
Another good video mate. 😉👍🏻😎🙏
Nice food Gary. 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
👍
🙏🙏🙏
When I visited Hanoi years ago in December, I was disappointed by the cool wet weather. It made me think of the original movie Blade Runner and of course England.
That's because Hanoi has 4 seasons.
food in VN very good❤
👋 Hi Gary, beautiful view there ❤
I liked it a lot Supatra 😀
Cinematography on point brother!
Vinhomes pay for you too to big 'em up 😂
You couldn’t pay me enough to big up something I didn’t like mate 😂
@theroamingcook how much to big me up ? 😂
Free for you!
@@theroamingcook good answer !
Wow, I had no clue about "new" Hanoi. That has to be a loooot of Chinese money going into that development. Still, I'm well intrigued and it's now on the bucket list! Thank you for showing!
😂😂 bạn nghĩ trung quốc đầu tư à
So what if it's Chinese money . Better than US money , a country that's never paid a cent for dropping Agent Orange all over the country.
@@UyTy-ph2tt From Việt Nam News on 18th December 2023:
"To date, Chinese financiers have injected over $27 billion in 4,161 projects across Việt Nam, placing sixth out of 143 countries and territories investing in the country."
There is no chinese money in the development of New Hanoi . That Mega Mall is owned by the Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhât Vuong (Vingroup) who also owns many other resorts , theme parks , shopping malls and the electrical car company Vinfast . Stop saying falseness and stupidities about Vietnam dude .
The 10 largest real estate companies in Vietnam are all Vietnamese companies. Even foreign companies with land funds in Vietnam are Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, and Japan, not china. The projects you read about are optoelectronic factories, solar power plants, auto parts... and FDI industrial companies. Samsung alone has invested 20 billion USD in Vietnam, so China's figure of 26 billion is quite small, only 1.3 times more than a Korean company.
great video. but looks like youtube is short changing you on views. 2k views but 2.7k thumbs up.
Thank mate, glad you enjoyed it. I think they thumbs ups are from bots so they’ll be gone in a couple of days and everything will look normal again
