I was blessed to work with Keith for a couple tours during my week in the field near the end of Probie school.... E.59 and 30 truck. An older house full of history and like clockwork everyday the stick goes up, the saws get started, and ladders go up. I don’t think I could’ve been assigned a better house for the week in the field. Keith did drill with me and the other probies. I knew he was salty af when I I saw the leather helmet 😂...we drilled the old school way. Keith gave me my very own Harlem zoo shirt and I feel truly honored bc it was his shirt. Tough old school guy, but that’s also the kind of guy he is. I’m so greatful for that and it meant so much to me. Of all the shirts I have since I’m a kid, my dads fire houses, that 59/30 shirt is my favorite and I wear it with pride bc it was passed down to me from a legend and he taught me a lot and made me earn it.

God bless you for your time and professional service in ladder 30,the Harlem Zoo. You were always good to me when I visited the house. A great bunch of guys. I met LT. Jimmy mcclusky years ago when he was on vacation on the Jersey shore, on long beach island. He said that he had worked with you and you were his favorite chauffer. Well you take care of yourself and your family. Thanks for the memory of your career. Be safe and keep well. Joe travaldo, retired from L 34

I always wondered about the lack of use of pipes on ladders in NYC. This podcast answered some questions. Coming from an area of the country where most towns have 1 ladder truck (if they are lucky, probably a quint) that has to do everything, I appreciate the explanation.
