- THE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IS ONE OF THE KEY PILLARS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT SOCIETY AND ENVIRONMENT.IN KENYA TODAY THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES TO RISE EVERYDAY ...AND JUST LIKE IN OTHER PARTS OF AFRICA, RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES TO LOWER COSTS AND INCREASE ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING
TRADITIONAL KILN BRICK MAKING contributes to air pollution, soil erosion and degradation, desertification of the landscape, and reduces available fuel sources for other human activities. In agricultural regions, these consequences are especially detrimental and contribute to the food INSECURITY and sometimes create fuel conflict over the limited resources. THEREFORE THERE IS NEED FOR GOVERNMENTs, organizations AND COMMUNITIES to raise awareness on alternative fuels and kiln construction OR OTHER ECO FRIENDLY CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES in order to increase production rates and reduce environmental impact. - Наука та технологія
This is perfect to build home for many. This should be introduce to the United Nation to help others worldwide.
HO MUNA purty
Wonderful we need to embrace this technology by requesting for training...
African Genius at work
The way to go...
its cost effective, but always with damaged edges ... and between bricks mosquitoes put their nest .... and if any bricks is cracked and with heavy rain water, the brick will change color .... this is the disadvantages unless a good quality of bricks .... good job anyway !
i agree interlocking is quicker to build but to me there are too many issues with them ... i think compressed earth blocks the normal ones (not interlocking) are great ,,, there was another video on youtube where a guy used 60/40 soil with water mix (more on liquid side) as his mortar and he just quickly poured it on before setting the blocks down and then slid each block side to side a little to get a even coating of the mortar before sliding it into its final place ,,, after 2 hrs drying it was so difficult for him to move each block and after 3 days he needed a sledge hammer to separate the blocks
Good job, and environmental responsible. With planning this will go far.

Thanks Ruby.
Thank your's information
Refreshingly exciting
This is actually a very old technology, and I am glad that it is becoming popular for its continued relevance
I love the machine
Renting, let alone owning a house in Zambia is daunting. It can be a huge stray on meagre household income, considering other competing basic needs. Low cost construction methods could be a solution to escalating high cost of construction in Zambia especially for people in peri urban and rural communities without access to mortgage. Such technologies needs to be promoted at scale

Amazing technology
@@samuelkiroko9210 How much pressure these machine can push?
It uses Cement in small proportions. Lime can be used as well as fly ashes. The extremely high pressure of the dirt mixed with the alkaline material that serves as enzymes, petrifies instantly; making it ready to be used. With dirt without organic matter, (top soil) and 10% clay, it will work as well, with good results
those bricks need more cement they crumble when intelocking and it would be better to do the eco bricks with the holes that way you can insert the steel bars for reinforcements. Those houses look like they will crumble easy.
+venezolanatrini More info re eco bricks lease.
not really. we dont neccesarilly require steel bars between the bricks but well calculated/defined soil cement compacted in pressure over 80 pascal square units. cement is further stabilised with water curing makes the brick very concrete.

A very good program showing the potential for reducing building costs in Africa. What do the structural/materials engineers have to say about this innovation, what research has been conducted (or not conducted)? Information from the policy implementer was also useful.

I recognize a major impediment to overcoming poverty, mentioned briefly. First, govt. intervention, e.g., building permits/regulation. It gets in the way, on net. Second, ignorance. Building with earth, especially using the compressed, interlocking blocks, requires a quick one day tutorial, but where are the international aid agencies? Moreover, I noticed lack of quality control in blocks. The earth was not sifted well. Was it tested for proper ratio of sand/clay? Do they know they can save money on PC by adding fly-ash, slag, common ash and other cheap materials? Do they know PC (the most expensive component) can be eliminated completely with emulsified asphalt, an extremely cheap by-product of refining oil and found naturally in ground pools, used by many civilizations for millennia? Also, there are new polymers that act as cement, cure almost immediately, and are cheap. Have aid agencies advised that new fuel-efficient stove designs that can be cheaply built by anyone exist?
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Unfortunately, ALL governments monopolize knowledge by producing propaganda so the elite can exploit the people. For example, those permits that the govt. official said were expedited down to two WEEKS could take 2 MINUTES, with a bribe. Bureaucracy is anti-life, always, everywhere. Free public ed exists to brainwash youth, teach the opposite.
Hi all friends, Good idea.
Makiga Engineering Services Ltd makes this machine in Kenya. Am impressed
at how much
Actually I have appreciated it is equality affordable price
But it is safety??
Power to the people, screw the banks, hopefully one day everyone will be able to afford to have their own house without the help of the government or the need to borrow at interest. Hopefully with hard work people can own their own homes, and free to make a living through their own intuition and not have to depend on jobs, let us create our own damn jobs.

how do you cure these mud/clay brick to make them strong as traditional bricks by flame.
They are made from mixing soil and cement in permitted ratios
You cure the bricks by keeping them moist watering them daily for a month and keeping under a tarp so they don't dry out. Keeping them wet makes the cement bond with the sand, and the lime bond with the clay.
@@rubyellis.5472 i don't see them keeping it moist, i see them just putting dirt/clay into the machine and pressed into a interlocking brick and use it right away. i don't even see them using a mixture of cement.
@@kracksmith4ejm1 Not everyone is educated on how to make the brick strong.
@@kracksmith4ejm1 the ones they are using to build are already cured. The wet bricks are covered and cured for almost a month.

You need clay. Cement. To make the bricks stick
So they can create vertical walls, but what about horizontally over spaces? Gonna need either a crane or metal for that...
+Jfreek5050 why would one want to create horizontal walls?
You probably meant the ceiling, did you?
+Joseph Waka Kinda, yes. Normally brick structures that aren't supported by metal will collapse if they are long and horizontal, in this case, flat roofs, ceilings, etc. Romans utilized arches to prevent this, but I wanted to know how, if it were possible, to set up bricks so that they could support themselves in a manner similar to reinforced concrete. I assume they would lay down some kind of metal support for overlying bricks?
Well I think, there is no need for a solid-celling if it is a one storey house. The roof will be the "celling (at an angle)" in these case.
Horizontal-solid-celling will get interesting if the housing has more than one storey. These massiv-celling are normally made of reinforced concrete or a wood beams and panels (at least here in Germany) .
But there are companies that can realise "brick-celling" of course (as you already said) you will need reinforced to support the bricks from collapsing.
Where can I find this bricks and how much cost
@@JosephWaka Red bricks can make roof with lime. Dirt bricks probably not suitable for this purpose.

Please you have said you bought the machine in industral area please give the details on how to purchase it like how much does it cost
The machine costs USD150 it's available at Alibaba I recently bought mine it was delivered to Nairobi from China last week
@@UrbanFarm01 the machines even the automatic machines are not that expensive ,, but the shipping to your countries shipyard and then the fees you must pay to your GOV for importing them and then getting them shipped from the shipping yard to you is very expensive ... if you're doing it to do 1 house it's usually not worth it but if you're doing it to try and set up a business the shipping cost is worth it ,,, if you're just looking to build your own house and that's it you're better off trying to find a used machine in you're own area
sorry my last comment was suppose to go to Seleen not you Jack ,, seeing that you already bought one from Aliababa i'm sure you know all about the large shipping cost that's involved with getting large heavy items shipped from china
interlocking brick house?
The bricks would have to cure first for about 4 weeks and kept humid that time (sprayed with water 3 times a day and kept under plastic) Also there is a need for steel bars to be inserted into the walls vertically and horizontally to increase the stability. That video shows how it NOT should be done!
+Jim Panse I don't think the construction standards in much of Africa are very high.
tickyul that's what you imagine. everything you know about Africa is in your imagination. You are seeing interlocking blocks that are solid and have a High load bearing capacity and you are still talking of reinforcements. I think you might need to learn about construction first. Don't diss just because its Africa. plus, as you can see, there's no foundation here so this was actually for demo purposes only.
@@renethundress6115 It depend on topography of the area...
@@sophiemalenya2796 true and if it's a humid climate they would naturally cure with the moisture in the air , but even in a humid climate they should still be giving them a good water shower at least once every 2 - 3 days for the first month , after that they should be really strong
