If I record at HD 120fps at what speed do you recommend shooting a basketball video to avoid something similar being seen with cuts or time interpolation?
Peter. Love all of the info you provide🙏. Question. I have fx3 I film. Mostly indoor volleyball. Would you recommend always shooting in 4K 120 fps or 4K 60. I use slog 3. Looking to get my images cleaner
My rule of thumb is to use 4K60 for most things and 4K120 for key moments like team introductions or the final plays of a game. I do this to save storage space, create in-camera proxies to speed up post, and because most of what I short won’t be slowed down to 20%, but if those reasons don’t mater as much for your specific purpose then there’s no problem with doing 120fps for everything
Drains it a bit faster ofc but it’s honestly not too bad. I just make sure to keep an extra battery or two in my pocket for a football game if I’m not using a v mount and it’s no problem.
It's necessary the proxy shoot if my computer is a beast? I never edit and use proxys..In RAW footage, in RED footage, I'm not familiar with the workflow..any council? You think it's better? Thanks
If you have an absolute beast of a computer than no need. Mind you I have a pretty good computer as well and find that when I really bog it down with tons of footage and effects toggling proxies on still helps to improve speed
Peter, I just recieved my fx30 today and notice that I do not have 24p option, only 23.98 when in XVAC S4K, is this the case for yours today? I know this video was shot a while back
@petersarellas im getting confused on one video you said you shoot on hlg3..but here is it slog3 so for beginner which one would you recommend on fx30? Thanks...also do you use zebra over expose on slog3?
@@JoelManrique when I filmed using the A7iii which doesn’t have as much color depth I used HLG3. Using a camera with better colour like the FX30 I use slog3
@@petersarellas thank you Sir for a quick reply. Your work is amazing!! I just got the fx30 only to find out you might be selling yours!!! But anyway thanks again! One more whats your exposure on slog3? Overexpose one stop or so?
Thanks for this i just got tgis camera. This might be a dumb question but I've never messed with the white balance. Is 5600k good for day and night filming?
5600K is good for daylight. You may want to go down a bit to around 5000K if it’s really dark and cloudy out during the day. Between 4000K and 3200K is best for nighttime. 3200K is typically known as ideal for tungsten (orange) lighting. Making sure you’re using the correct white balance Will do heaps in terms of making sure the tones in your image are represented correctly and give you a more pleasing look.
for some reason I cannot get true 24fps on my FX30 and idk why :/ any guidance? it is on version 3.00, when I go to movie settings it is all the frame rates ending in .99 i’m using the same SD card you showed on your recent live stream (V90 128gb sandsisk)
Try the variable shutter setting in the shooting menu. If that doesn’t work I’d just double check that you’re fully updated to the newest firmware. Some of the new firmware lets you adjust the shutter to 1/48 by just adjusting it normally without using the variable shutter setting
@@petersarellas I was able to figure it out, apparently on the update they don’t say 24fps they say 23.998 and 59.996 and etc that was my confusion. Thank you for always responding !!
Any ideas on why my external monitor image is cropped in and doesn't fill the screen? Not an issue with my a6600. Drives me nuts! I tried everything, safety zone off, aspect ratio off.
I am new to this camera and have been shooting youth soccer matches. I have a 70-200 f4 lens. I've noticed that when shooting video zoomed out to 200 with a f4 aperture the footage is blurry. I am using a wide focus zone. Is this because of the f4 aperture? Am I making the camera work to hard to focus at that distance with a wide open aperture like that?
Hmm.. it shouldn't be because of the aperture. Unless the lighting is really dark but you'd want the widest aperture in that scenario anyway. Are you still having the problem?
Hey I’m very new to cameras and am changing the settings on a provided fx3 I was given. The lens I’m using is a 100-400 and a 24-70 but my aperture only goes down to 4 on the 24mm and 5 on the 400mm. Also, my footage appears dark when I up my shutter speed so the closest settings I can get to yours make really dark footage, how can I fix this?
FX3 has a second base ISO at ISO 12800 so if you’re not able to properly expose your image with the aperture and shutter that you want or can use based on your lenses and are using the FX3 specifically, then I’d recommend setting ISO to 12800 and using a high quality ND filter to reduce light to expose your image properly
@@petersarellas just making sure, you use an iso of 800 at 1/320 shutter correct? If my aperture only goes to f5 then I can also just turn up my iso instead of copying ur iso. Or do my iso and shutter go together meaning I would have to change both
@@cmattedits id recommend not blindly copying my settings. These are base settings that I begin with and then adjust based on conditions. You can choose to bring your ISO up and leave your shutter as is if you like the look at that shutter speed and need more light in your image
i rewatch your videos and learn something new everytime.
Super helpful as a new fx30 user :) thank you!!

128gb V90 SD cards!

Yes it does

Are you able to put S&Q mode as a quick preset so you can set a back button to switch back and forth?

Curious what your autofocus settings are. What have you found is the best sensitivity level for action shots to minimize focus hunting?
I keep my sensitivity and transition speeds at max for autofocus
Please drop a6500 settings!
Honestly don’t use it enough to really justify this but it’s an older camera so I’m sure this is already on UA-cam!

same here, did the newest firmware change this?
how do you get true 24fps on ?? I cannot figure this part out, my fx30 is on version 3.00, 24fps only appears when I change to XAVC S-I DCI 4K
Enable variable shutter from the menu and you can make micro-adjustments to the shutter speed to get it to 1/48!
