Jim Powell here. Both good clubs. I was just fit for an almost full bag. The ping 3 wood was better for me overall. Better distance, same trajectory and better dispersion.
The ping is better for you since you can hit it off the deck a lot easier and are maybe a yard behind off the tee. I like having a ping 5 wood cranked down to 16° and it’s super easy to hit from the fairway and opens the face so you don’t lose it left. You may not want a 13° if you do it with a 3 wood.
I picked up the Mizuno 3 wood. It goes so far! I usually hit my Cobra 3 wood 180/190. My very first swing it went 240! On average I've been getting 215 to 230 and very straight ball flight.
For those struggling to elevate their 3-wood off of the deck, crank the loft up to 16.5. It will still go almost as long off of the tee but makes a world of difference off of the fairway.
4 Wood loft is in fact the smarter move! I stopped playing the 3 Wood. In fact even a 5 wood is a smarter choice for moderate swing speeds on Par 5s. It is easier to get up in the air, good carry distance for a 2nd shot par 5, and leaves you in scoring position on shot 3 with a short iron! Play smart !! :)
The weather looks so nice! Great comparison testing. I’ve been through many 3 woods looking for that one I trust to pipe down the middle every time...I found it, the TSi2! Wow, I’ve never had a 3 wood that good. You have to try it! I love it in the Tensei AV raw blue shaft. Thanks again for the great content!
ping woods are the best. I know alot of ppl have an issue with the sound ping makes, but I play in the woods alot and I love that strong echoing sound lol . asserts dominance amongst the boys. great vid! first timer, and already subscribed and liked the vid 👍
Great video Gabe. Love the Tin Cup moment! I've never hit a Mizuno, or a Ping club, so not sure what I'd choose. My 3-Wood has been a trouble club for me, both off the tee and off the fairway, but starting to dial it in as of late. I'd go with the one that feels/sounds the best at contact I think.
Mizuno all the way! Great Tin Cup moment Gabe! One of my favorite movies. It would have been cool to see a chili dip there but watching you hit it into the water was great! Nice vid!
Previously had a Mizuno ST180 3 wood and loved it, only got rid because it got a bit scruffy from a few sky balls and it hurt my OCD at address. Now have a G410 and can’t really get along with it - strongly contemplating a return to Mizuno. Need to get booked in for a demo
i just got a sim max 3 wood, mainly for those second shots on par 5's, getting it launching was more important to me than off the tee, but i'm almost hitting it as far as my ping g400 driver...it's getting nervous about it's spot in the bag! Going to a taylormade fitting on wednesday!
Golf season is soon coming to Canada and can’t wait. I’m a farmer so have to wait till I plant my crop then it’s play time. Great video ... I like your attitude and most of all the water sound affects. 😂😂 I’m still waiting for my new fitted G425 irons to show up. They were “suppose” to be in on the April 16 haven’t got the call yet. I haven’t been able to purchase my driver or wood or hybrid yet due to restrictions because of we all know what. I think we have all had enough. Oh well the more I watch the better ideas I’m seeing. I don’t remember have you done any videos on woods vs hybrids? Be nice to see which one plays better on the fairway and in the rough.
@@LetsPlayThru We grow durum which is made into pasta, lentils, peas, canola, and barley which is the beer you drink if you like beer. 🍺🍺 We had snow last wk so will be a little delayed in planting. It’s also quite cool.
There's my problem, that's has always been my problem even 20 years ago 230 carry of the deck. Today I can carry 215 maybe 220 off the deck. The 2 used Ping Rapture 3 wood i have have remained for 10÷ years in the bag. Great driving 3 wood 245 250 off the tee and 220 225 off the deck. Thanks for the great content! I will give these 2 a try.
Sweet video, I play mostly ping so I might be a little biased haha but I’ve always loved the way mizunos look and everyone says mizunos feel great so I’d honestly probably want to play the mizuno since I pretty much always hit my 3 wood off the tee.
A fun review, as ever and an excellent summary. The Mizuno has to be on any shortlist for a 3wood and it would be interesting to see this club up against the Taylor Made Sim 2.
starting to take my golf more seriously and looking at getting the stz or callaway epic max. will use for off the tee mainly before bulding some confidence before investing in a driver. which do you believe is better for a beginner like me?
Enjoyed your water sound effects very funny. I have the G 410 3 wood and I am the same way like it off the grass with it’s shallow face but would like a little deeper face for tee shots.
We should not be surprised considering the many rave reviews the Mizuno STZ driver has received this year. Only natural Mizuno did a nice job designing the 3 wood. For me performance from the fairway (vs the tee) is more important. This has got to wear you down a bit in the FL heat hitting all those balls so quickly but a great review. How about the cost factor??
Your fast becoming my favorite channel cuz your club and ball reviews are right in my zone! I have in my bag 3 Ping 3 Wilson golf clubs and I've been using Oncore golf balls on and off this season and last! 🐊🏌️♂️🚩🇺🇸🦅👍
Mizuno, based on ball flight and fairways hit. That said, I play a Ping G400 Fairway wood (#5), and it's my go-to club from the rough and fairway (200 Yds. +/-). very forging...
Mizuno for the win! Both are great though. Glad to see Mizuno woods starting to gain some traction. +1for the underdog! The sound of the Ping is rough on my ears.
I would take my very old Exotics CB2. High, long, and ?. If I just wanted high and straight I would take my Callaway Rogue 3w. If I just wanted long I would take my Callaway Razr Hawk. If i wanted to be consistently on the fairway everytime I would take my hand wedge.
I don't think this was a very scientific test. Nor was it really executed in a standardised way. I'm sorry to say every result you found in the first and third test could easily have been attributed to user error. So your conclusions about Ping being better from tight lies and Mizuno being better from tees is not really supported by your testing. If you weren't going to pick a winner I personally would have also abstained from making a conclusion as well. Approaching an island green is very very rarely attempted with a 3w so I'm not exactly sure what that test was in aid of. It's much more common to attempt, with a 3w, to coast up to a raised green, possibly flanked by greenside bunkers, so perhaps that should have been the test. It would have required consistent length and straightness which is a good test of a 3w, in my honest opinion. Lastly, I think there was also some familiarity with Ping as your personal gamer that was involved in the outcome of this test. Perhaps it would have been better to match the Mizuno with an unfamiliar wood with similar build, shape, and tech. Anyways. I like your videos. I came to this one wanting to see how Mizuno stacked up in rigorous testing against another good brand.
Haha, I have to give you a thumbs-up on making me laugh alone. Also because I’m curious now to try the Mizuno 3 wood. I really like my Titleist 3 wood, but it would be fun to try the Mizuno.
Mizuno for the win ! You’re assessment is spot on. Would like to see the Mizuno versus Taylormade Sim Max
Def going to try to do soon, thanks Stephen

I’m dying to get my hands on that one. It’s def going to be tested soon. Glad you found the right one ☝️
Lol! I can identify with those tin cup shots. So many times I tried to carry a long second shot over water and came up short. Glad you got one.
Thanks man!

Mizuno STZ driver and fairway woods are great performing clubs and generally under appreciated. Enjoyed this review!

Yes I definitely recommend giving these two a shot and maybe throw in the Taylormade Sim2 titanium that so many folks have said are amazing
I love my Mizuno 3 Wood. Not the STZ, but a JPX 900. Still, after all these ears, it is my all time favourite club and crazy long and straight.
Ha ha. Loved the tin cup shot. Difficult to choose. Btw re. my driver fitting, I ended up with the Sim2 max!!

I have Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro irons 4w-pw and I could not be happier with them
They make quality stuff no doubt. Just did a vid on those hot metals.
I've always had low ball flight issues with my 3 woods until I got the STZ. Consistent 230 carry off the tee @ average about 96' height.
Great video gabe. The mizuno seemed to give you better lies for your next shot.
Thanks Miles!
Good review

Yes and I think the counterbalanced shaft also has something to do with it
both awesome clubs ! if your going to Bandon dunes I suggest taking a wind breaker and a umbrella lol
Haha, good call! Thanks
You were always out of breath when you got to the ping shots!
We should not be surprised considering the many rave reviews the Mizuno STZ driver has received this year. Only natural Mizuno did a nice job designing the 3 wood. For me performance from the fairway (vs the tee) is more important.

a bit in the FL heat hitting all those balls so quickly but a great review. How about the cost factor??
Exactly the same as of the time of this video, both $299 MSRP
These were the exact two I wanted to see head to head. The rest of my bag is Mizuno, so I think I'll probably go that way.
Awesome, good luck JP!
Same! But that's almost why I want to go Ping, so I'm not totally matchy matchy.

What shaft in mizuno??
Good review. A forced carry over water is a good test for a 3w. I've had a few tin cup moments myself. lol
Thanks James. They are always a mixture of fun & frustrations, haha
The Mizuno gets my vote for sure. The entire latest line of Mizuno products are stong from top to bottom.
You are right, they are doing some great things
Hey bud, great content, plus you are local. Subscribed.
Awesome thx 🙏
@@LetsPlayThru which course is this. Looks to be in good shape
Even though I have Mizuno JPX irons, I’d probably choose the Mizuno if it’s as forgiving as the Ping when it comes to slicing…
Mizuno, based on ball flight and fairways hit. That said, I play a Ping G400 Fairway wood (#5), and it's my go-to club from the rough and fairway (200 Yds. +/-). very forging...
Nice! I can dig that Mark. BTW, are you in aviation?
Currently testing both of these. Have the stz driver and love the ability to match, but that ping… oh that ping.
Fairway woods are so good right now it’s unbelievable. So many good options to make them true consistent weapons
I could make both of them look bad!! Lol
I'll buy the Mizuno STZ 3 Fairway Wood and possibly the 5W.
I know I'm not trying to carry that water!!!!!! Great review, have often though about 2 x 3w setup....home course is relatively short!!
Haha, I normally wouldn’t either. That would be interesting to carry 2 three woods.
Very informative, I notice that you never test PXG. Would love to see comparisons of their 0211 lineup.
Thanks. Here’s an oldie looking at the previous 0211s: ua-cam.com/video/ir4X5-dKtxg/v-deo.html

Dude who had the golf cart that was going like 30 mph past you when you were hitting across the lake?
😂 yeah he was flying. Either a maintenance guy or possibly a member with a souped up cart. Too fast to tell, haha
Ok same two clubs but 5 woods... My use case would be hitting from off the deck way more than the tee. Same analysis?
One difference worth mentioning is about $150
Mizuno for the win! Both are great though. Glad to see Mizuno woods starting to gain some traction. +1for the underdog! The sound of the Ping is rough on my ears.
If you draw the ball why don’t you lineup on the left side of the Tee box. It would give you more room for your right to left shot
On a straight away hole I often will. But on these holes with more of a dog leg I try to get a better angle to cut corner or avoid hazards
Ping, I guess. Don't drive that far... I do play a 3 wood a bit from the fairway though. I enjoy the content of Your videos. Good stuff!
I don't understand why it's one or the other - just buy both and use the right one for the right conditions :)
2 of my bags are Mizuno irons and drivers.
Gotta ask then, how many bags do you have?
Ping has never let me down
Both of those sticks are impressive, but I would not give p my Cobra Speed Zopne fairway for ether of them, especially off the turf
Everything buttery, lol.
I thought you said your swing was good?
lots of wet balls glad to see the mizuno do well allthough on the last challange you were trying to hit it so hard
Other youtubers just call those low “bad” shots stingers and call it a day…

I like the look of the mizuno but I’d like to try both before making a true decision
Smart, it's always worth a shot with your own swing
What about giving the Mizuno a bit more loft to help get it up on the fairways for you? But I do live Ping products!
It’s a good idea, but it did get up very high off the Teebox. I may try it though.
Could also be shaft related, a higher launch profile shaft might make a difference
I have both clubs in my two sets both are good !!
