If Gotenks treated Buu like Gogeta treated Janemba, then Buu wouldn't even had time to contemplate whether Gotenks is worth absorbing or not. While the video is wonderfully explanatory, it does all come back to the maturity of Gotenks and not his power. He definitely did have enough power to obliterate Super Buu.
Buu was toying around as much as Gotenks was and was faking being damaged. Gotenks knew his time was running out and needed to finish things quickly after turning SSJ3. He was about to do what he thought was going to be the finishing move, but when the fusion wore off Buu dropped the act of being hurt and just laughed at how pathetic Gotenks was.
In all fairness, Super Gotenks' only flaw makes perfect sense: he is the fusion of a 7 and 8 year old, after all. They were spoiled children, they didn't have to fight to survive from a young age like Goku and Vegeta did.

I have the feeling that Buu was not taking the fight very seriously either, but at times it looked like Gotenks damaged him somewhat.
Buu can morph and distort his body and I feel Buu taking damage was just an act. Look at what he does when the fusion runs out. He looks bruised and battered and in pain. Then he just turns it off like it was nothing, and laughs. Like "okay, time to drop the act now."

Him saying that doesn't mean Gotenks is weaker. He originally didn't know Gotenks had SSJ3.
Also, outright statements are more factual than implication.
Buu was taking it seriously, but due to Buu's whole childish mentality, you wouldn't think so. Don't mistake Buu's childish mannerisms as though he wasn't fighting seriously, because he was. If Gotenks would have gotten serious, fought for the right reasons instead of "being super cool" then he probably could have hit Buu with one large blast like Gohan did with cell and completely demolished Buu down to the last molecular cell "No pun intended". Gotenks didn't have plot armor like Goku, so the writers decided to make Gotenks dopey and partially useless in the fact that he took nothing seriously, even if he started out serious, he would just revert back to the flashy "look at how cool I am" bullshit.

Piccolo is about 20-22 depending on if you count what Toriyama says in the manga with Gohan being 16, or with the more reasonable age count of 18 that the time skips tend to actually portray.
They fought Fat Buu and were only told how much more powerful Super Buu was with only a vague estimation that they should be wary. I think Base Gotenks could have beat Fat Buu or at least gotten into the plausible realm to after the Time Chamber. So weirdly, Trunks isn't entirely cocky with that possibility of winning in base, he's likely basing his estimation on outdated evidence, sort of like Gero. Gero and 19 would have beaten Goku easily if Super Saiyan wasn't discovered yet.

Buu acted more like Gotenks than Piccolo despite absorbing Piccolo for his brains…Piccolo wouldn’t have played with his food knowing he had a time limit. Did Buu not know the fusion wouldn’t last inside of him?

Yes. Remember, in SS1 form, he actually tried to keep Buu from regenerating, only for Buu to regenerate from smoke. Plus, towards the end of their fight, Gotenks actually did decide to crush him, only for the fusion to run out before he could. Had SS3 Gotenks just stopped playing around right away, Buu would have been killed very quickly, I think.
I believe Gotenks could've. The thing was Super Boo knew that Gotenks was too much of a showman and wasn't to go all out and slowly amped up.
He noticed that the moment they didn't start SSJ as he knew they had the option of doing that in the beginning as Boo in general seen what Saiyans can do. All he had to do was let them not only run out their time but their energy by not shutting up and taking the fight as serious as they should. One reason he went to sleep and all that.
Just like the readers could've seen that Gotenks should've just went all out in the beginning, the same Boo could've seen himself.
Gotenks weakness is the same as Vegeta. Stop showing off and just fight, damn it.
Tbf as a fighter Vegeta is more proficient than Goku when it comes to not talking and finishing his opponents Goku has been known to play around with whoever he fights whereas Vegeta is nearly always going for the kill a lot of people think the reason vegito is so bad for finishing his enemy is because of Vegeta when actually it’s Goku
@@DumbBass302 When did Vegito fail to finish his enemies off? In his fight with Buu, Vegito's intention was to purposely antagonize Buu into absorbing him so they could save everyone that Buu had absorbed previously. And in Super, I believe his only fight was between himself and merged Zamasu where he didn't play around. He had a much shorter fusion time, so he went into blue to try to defeat Zamasu quickly.

@@DumbBass302 He did it on purpose. If you've seen Geekdom's video on it, you'd know that he wasn't being serious on purpose. What part of his plan do you not understand? Also, fusions are their own sort of beings. You can't blame Goku when the fusion is essentially a new being. The fact that they often refer to Goku and Vegeta as other people, not themselves. Even Gogeta declares "I am not Goku or Vegeta. I am Gogeta." Vegito says "What do you call a Goku and a Vegeta? Vegito sounds all right." That means they are acknowledging that they are a new being CREATED by Goku and Vegeta, but they are neither of them. They are an amalgamation.
Honestly, the most important statement to me is Super Buu saying that he could not let someone stronger than him exist when referring to Gohan. He did not say this about Gotenks SS3. Which shows Gotenks is likely not stronger than Buu, but maybe as strong, or if he's stronger than Buu, it's marginal. Either way, I think most people would agree that SS3 Gotenks and Super Buu are relative in power, whether one is slightly stronger than the other. I understand most people will insist that if SS3 Gotenks was taking it seriously from the beginning, he could win, but idk about that bc Super Buu also made it clear he was waiting for their fusion timer to run out so he could use them against Gohan.
My opinion is that Gotenks' and Super Buu's raw power output, being strength and ki, are about the same, but Buu's durability and stamina will ultimately give him the win.
Even when Gotenks was playing around, he almost killed Buu. Goku even said Gohan might not get a turn. And Buu's statement can also be applied to Gotenks, as he didn't say whether or not they were stronger than him.

If gotenks had a higher battle i.q. and was more serious he could have won the fight with all his power going into a massive ssj 3 blast attack.

they goten has his dads start the fight slow and test the opponent and gradualy power up little by little during the fight personality, and trunks has vegetas personality of playing around and showing off, so they both got theyr parents bad traits that hindered them

Yes it's heavily implied to be the case, Gotenks was powerful as a SSJ he was able to deal significant damage to Buu, and going SSJ3 exacerbated this further! The showmanship prior to his SSJ3 transformation is what delayed his time in doing so, hell this happened with Gohan and Vegito later so it's a saiyan thing I guess!
Or poor writing. Remember that from android arc onwards its no longer the villain being smart or strategic or the hero having defying luck. It is mostly the Hype Man shooting himself in the foot.

This did not happen with Vegetto. The entire time he was toying with Buu so he could get absorbed and save the others. His bragging and mental obliteration of Buu was deliberate and Vegetto could easily destroy him whenever he wanted to, but that was never his plan to begin

I think a serious full power ssj3 Gotenks from the start would have been able to beat him, especially since we can see that after Gotenks fired his missle barrage, Buu was mad with him bcs he didn't want anyone to be stronger than him, besides I think Buu was able to sense Gohan only while he was powering up into ultimate for the first time, which happened in the moment when Gotenks was already back in his base form if I don't mistake
Yeah I think he could have. If he would have come out of the time chamber, ready to do a finishing move he could have killed Super Buu. They were about even, I would give Gotenks a very slight edge over Super Buu, which is why it would require him putting all of his power in one final attack, no half measures.

I had always thought that buu only sensed Gohan after he had escaped the ROSAT.
In Supersonic Warriors 2 there's an alternate timeline where SSJ3 Gotenks destroys Super Buu with an attack that is basically a horde of ghost kamikazes so I'm gonna say yes 😂
I think the implication is that Gotenks was about to perform the finishing killer blow and then he reverted to normal. Maybe he was being cocky, again, but that was implied.
I feel like Super Buu was weaker than both Gotenks and Gohan. Buu knew he could win by absorption but was aware of both the time-limit and Gohan’s existence.
He planned to run out Gotenks’ fusion long enough for it to be reset so that he could win by absorption and then beat Gohan. If Gotenks didn’t defuse I feel he would’ve won with that final attack.
That’s why Buu felt safe enough to sleep while he waited for Goten and Trunks to fuse again.

Bigger question is why did he absorb Piccolo just to do the same thing Gotenks did against Gohan? He absorbs Piccolo for his brain and we don’t see that as Buutenks. Did he not know the fusion wouldn’t last inside of him? Does he really know how his absorptions effect him?
This is written before watching the video. This is also taken from the English dub of the anime, which admittedly is my main source. Sacrilege to some, but I grew up on it and am not a manga reader. With that said, I'm not sure how manga accurate the statement made by Super Buu is.
I take it pretty seriously that Super Buu said he knew Mystic Gohan was coming and that he knew he couldn't beat him. To me, that supports the idea of needing Gotenks alive to absorb him to have a chance at being Gohan. I'd double down on this sentiment based on the fact that he just like...went to sleep instead of massacring Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten when Gotenks de-fused. I can't recall completely, but I think that's the first instance of him seeing a fusion separate, so he needed to wait for them to re-fuse, not knowing what the cooldown was or how it was done. And if we're doing a what-if here, the fact of the matter is that Gotenks would've been the guinea pig for the absorption technique anyway, and he did get got by that, so why would it not happen in another fight? Though I think the point of the video is more like... Was Gotenks strong enough to get the job done. All in all, my head canon is that they're pretty even, Gotenks has no battle IQ being comprised of a 7 and 8 year old with no experience fighting for their lives, and has a diminished fusion length due to the ki consumption of maintaining SSJ3. Super Buu literally beat them already via absorption.
And here we are, 19 minutes in. Yeah, I put a lot of stock into this. Also 5 minutes, with regeneration as powerful as Super Buu? I don't see it. Super Buu clears this imo.
A great video and breakdown there was a lot about the Buu arc that I forgot such as Super Buu planning on absorbing Gotenks almost from the beginning of the fight. That said I still say no Gotekns even if he took the fight seriously I doubt he could've. Now while Gotenks seems to have enough power to do it this is a song and dance we've seen sense both Freiza and Cell. Thinking you have the power to do it and being able to are two very different things. Remember Future Trunks thought his new form of Super Sayian was enough but Cell, Goku, and even Vegeta knew the draw backs to its form and chose not to use it. Why do I bring this up because Future Trunks dispite the world he depicts to live he doesn't fight very much as he isn't a veteran like many of the Z warriors. Gotenks is the same way going up against Buu he doesn't go all out but even when trying to his two strongest attacks do seem to be the Kamehma and Super Ghost Komakoze Attack, the SGKA does seem to be a pretty good attack sense even Buu himself uses it again Gohan, and Goku and Vegeta I think. But regardless given Gotenks inexperience as a fighter I don't see him having the ability to generate a strong enough attack to put Buu down for good. Vs everyone else who fights Buu quickly comes to that conclusion Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, even Piccolo knew this.
Also, Gotenks went Ss3 to tear the whole in the time chamber. I can only assume he had to in order to generate enough power to succeed. Buu was able to do the same thing implying that at least in that moment, their power was roughly equal. No big gap in power, plus Buus regeneration means no way Gotenks wins.

I still say yes, if he took it seriously, no matter what buu was planning, he still nearly died at least once against Gotenks who was screwing around.
They literally had the chance to kill him there in the time chamber, so it really comes down to "does gotenks have the means to actually kill buu" because he already showed he could put him in a vulnerable situation

I do think that had Gotenks been serious from the start and used super saiyan 3, he would have defeated Super Buu. Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks did almost defeat Super Buu when he didn't take the situation seriously enough after all. A simple change of taking the situation seriously could have made all the difference.
I dont think Gotenks ever stood a chance, maybe he could rock Super Buu around abit. But Goku had in mind of them defeating Fat Buu, not Super Buu. Super Buu was an entirely different beast all together as Goku said "After that you were different, you were rutheless."
I do 100% think Gotenks could of destroyed Fat Buu if they were serious, but Super Buu was much worse.

@@Freedmoon44 Yeah, but the timer is irrelevant in this argument, we're talking about whether Goku believed ssj3 gotenks is strong enough to defeat super buu. If ssj3 gotenks can defeat super buu before time runs out is a different conversation.
I agree because when Gotenks fight super Buu it was pretty even if not Buu was slightly ahead of them. When Gohan shows up Buu was nervous and more angry knowing he’s fighting someone stronger than him. That right there makes me think Gotenks couldn’t get the job done if he was serious.
@@micahhill4786 I think he was more shocked that Gohan was alive because he was sure he killed him. If anything, super buu would think he could easily kill gohan because he couldn't sense the power increase.
chances are that he sensed gohan whenever piccolo told him a strong person is going to fight him, he probably sensed him off in the distance before goten and trunks ever fused and figgured its taking so long because the one he sensed was so far away

I don't think Gotenks could have beaten him. SS3 ruins your body, no matter what. The longer they stay in SS3 the shorter their fusion time, and the more ravaged they will become. Look at Goku vs. Kid Buu, he was way more powerful in SS3 but couldn't put Buu down. Buu really doesn't have great durability, he blows himself up when he destroys a planet, he can just regen from so much. Its why they had to use the spirit bomb to kill him, you need a massive massive gap in power to be bale to over tax Buu's regen.
That's one of my favorite fights in the entire series, it was so creative and funny
I think Gotenks ssj3 was a little bit stronger but buu probably knew that, even so buu had an iq that was surprisingly good aside from his wacky personality, he most likely knew Gotenks was gonna waste too much time showing off and he would then have the opportunity to catch him off guard. But switch Gotenks mind with Vegeta or Piccolo and Gotenks would dominate Buu

I got the sense that Buu legit knew Gotenks was stronger than him, probably enough to eventually kill him were time not a factor. He's taking some pretty hard damage here. I can believe he has a plan, but he also is not enjoying himself. He does surmise correctly that the power he is sensing is more than Gotenks, so elects to find some way to absorb Gotenks so he can quash it(he knows he 'd lose the power once the fusion runs out).
That said, while Buu is taking some massive hits, it isn't beyond his capacity to regen. Gotenks needs to overtax it, which can't really be done in a short period of time, regardless of how strong his blows are(unless you're Beerus). It takes a long and sustained series of withering blows to grind Buu down. We see a glimpse of his regen beginning to fail in the fight with Gohan, but it is against Vegito where the regen starts to fail catastrophically. Buu needs only to be competitive to win and against Gotenks, he is most certainly that. Buu wins by default.

It would not make any difference at all..Gotenks taking the fight seriously isn't going to power up his attacks beyond what they were..moreover I kinda roll my eyes at the Gotenks taking the fight seriously. I mean this Buu ate and killed his parents, why in the hell wouldn't or didn't he take the fight seriously? What more can a enemy do to get him to take the fight seriously? This type of stuff is why I don't care for Gotenks as a character.
Gotenks could have maybe beat buu in that form but it wouldn’t have been an easy feat by far, considering buu does refen and battle power means nothing if the technique is deadly

I like that DBZ ended with the implication that there was finally someone "undefeatable" even while going all out, using every possible advantage, only succeeding with the help of every other being on Earth.

Yeah I think so, given ssj1 Gotenks before training is supposed to be stronger than Goku... and he could beat Kid Buu (albeit with lots of extra circumstances helping him) but this just shows in theory the gap in power doesn't need to be too crazy to destroy buu if you REALLY put your all into it.
Also Mystic Gohan stomped Buu easily. Yet when Buu absorbed him, he turned back around and started stomped Gohan. And Buus absorption is confirmed to be a power additive not multiplier.
Lastly the narrative of the Cell and Buu arcs is supposed to be Goku trusting the next generation... and them having the power, but not the discipline that he has. Which leads to their downfalls or near downfalls. Until the end of the Buu arc when he realizes no one needs to take on everything alone, and that through team work they can handle things together and win.

If Gotenks went full power in their initial fight I think Buu may still win, if just barely. Outside of the Kamikaze ghost attack I don’t think Gotenks has a stronger technique to put him down. In a rematch Buu wins casually as he has already seen all his attacks and knows how to counter.
Okay if you compare SSJ3 Goku vs Fat Buu. Goku had the upper hand there.
And we can use that to the Evil Buu vs Fat Buu fight which was also one sided.
By that logic Evil buu and SSJ3 Goku should be close to equal. Then Evil Buu absorbed Fat Buu into his being, powering up even more. Of course we cant be sure how much more. But it would seem very unlikely Super Buu would be below SSJ3 level. Add on the crazy regeneration hax.

lol, Goku never had any "upper hand" in that fight, Buu was having fun the entire time, and was looking forward to more fighting, he never even got mad in that fight, the fact that he was looking for someone stronger than Goku shows that the theory of Goku being stronger than fat buu is bogus, too many people take Goku's words the wrong way, maybe Goku could have beaten fat buu, that is a strong maybe, but it would be like Goku all of a sudden just, "stopped playing around with buu" lol, more like he would have generated some mega attack to take him out, probably like the one he was about to use on kid buu.
Unless Goku is strong as Kid Buu, I highly doubt he is strong as Evil Buu

Besides the Spirit Bomb another technique that would be very effective against Super Buu and Kid Buu, is the Devilmite Beam since it destroys evil from within and those beings are pure evil, I'm not sure if it would have worked on Fat Buu though, since he does have some innocence in him despite him being selfish and greedy.
Pretty sure that technique is useless against someone who can turn to smoke and still regenerate. The Devilmite Beam only causes your heart to explode. Buu has survived far worse than that

Super buu has no problem showing his trauma about gohan being stronger than him and that he felt it at the beginning of the fight against gotenks (when gohan was halfway through the ceremony and got angry in front of the old kaioshin).
but against gotenks ssj or ssj3 he never felt that way, on the contrary he was already preparing his plan for gohan's arrival.
it's quite simple to understand, it's a shonen manga, not a complex philosophical book, super buu and super buutenks explain it perfectly and even gohan says "what you say makes sense" he understands everything about buu's plan.
gotenks 3 was just a hobby, even if he's strong, he wouldn't consider him a threat
what's important to remember is super buu's psychopathic face when he confirms that gohan is stronger than him, he's in a trance and traumatized, he can't stand the fact that there's someone in the universe above him.

super buu held back against gotenks 3 it's obvious
he made gotenks believe he was weaker with the sole aim of making gotenks overconfident and pretentious once they had refused so he could absorb them.
now let's imagine that super buu hadn't held back against gotenks 3, and that he would have beaten gotenks 3 or would have shown his superiority , what's the point of buu doing that when he might not be able to absorb them easily 1 hour later ?
after the 1h break, when buu came back he started to provoke goten and trunks precisely because he knows that at that very moment goten and trunks will be overconfident in believing that he could have beaten him if he hadn't defused 1 hour earlier
it's part of the plan, to let the kids think he's weaker and after 1 hour's break, since they're kids, all you have to do is provoke them so that they fused directly into ssj3 and absorbs them easily
if buu had shown gotenks 3 that he was too strong for him, goten and trunks wouldn't necessarily have wanted to merge to fight him 1 hour later, and the provocation wouldn't have succeeded.
It feels as if people dont really realize when goku says super buu is stronger than kid buu dont account for all the transformations super buu goes through still being super buu, basic pink super buu is effectively kid buu with restrictions on his violence
Probably the only attacks from Gotenks that actually hurts Super Buu was the Super Kamikaze ghost attack die die missile barrage
i want to say no, i think gotenks couldnt have done it for several reasons
-although powerful theres many times where gotenks loses focus
-Again! while serious his childish nature keeps him making bad mistakes in the field of battle
-in movie 13 gotenks did die die missile and knowing the situation still had an ego problem that goku had to shout at him to finish it
-his perception of a finisher is not on par with goku or vegeta or freeza for example
-hes incredibly powerful but out of lack of experience in serious fights i dont believe hes capable of keeping his head in the game

I just like to add that when Goku says that goten and trunks can beat buu he meant fat buu and this is backed up by that filler where Goku knows he dosen’t stand a chance against super buu in ssj3 > Even when the supreme Kai asked Goku is gotenks stronger then you he just says he can do it too > all this suggest too me super buu is beyond ssj3 and Goku didn’t account for the increase in power buu would get
I don't think he'd have won simply because buu's regeneration is just THAT absurd, reforming from smoke, and I don't see anything in Gotenks' arsenal that can have that kind of sustained, spirit-bomb level of high intensity energy that won't even allow a whisp of smoke to escape. That, and Trunks and Goten are children, and not yet very good tacticians, as well as easily being deceived themselves by very basic tricks like...goading them on and absorbing them. Fact is, Buu could have absorbed them much earlier than he did - they had literally no idea he could DO that, after all - and could also have opted to turn them into candy - and unlike Vegito, the power gap was not like it was in that fight, where Vegito was SO much stronger than buu that he could overcome even being turned into a candy and STILL beat him up - SO Buu basically has THREE options to deal with Gotenks:
1. Absorb him
2. Turn him into candy
3. Simply wait out the fusion timer
While Gotenks has ONLY one option to deal with Buu:
1. Completely annihilate every single atom - including vapor particles - in his entire body and make sure you don't miss even one bit or he comes back, while simultaneously avoiding being killed, absorbed or turned into candy.
Even if he took it seriously, and by the way, it makes NO sense that he didn't given how determined both Goten AND Trunks were to avenge their parents - who Buu had directly or indirectly killed - I just don't see Gotenks accounting for the issue of regeneration or having a tool to deal with that LEVEL of regeneration. The ONLY way to do that is with a sustained ball of energy that completely envelopes buu and the surrounding area for long enough to erase every single bit, down to the atomic and maybe SUB-atomic level. For the same reason, I'm not 100% convinced SSJ3 Goku COULD have - without the spirit bomb - destroyed fat buu completely before he ran out of power, much less kid buu. Fat buu is MORE of a problem actually because he has more BODY MASS to destroy, wheres kid buu being very small makes him EASIER to envelope and destroy with a sustained blast. If Vegeta had self-destructed against a much smaller enemy like Kid buu, MAYBE there wouldn't have been pieces left over. The fact that a SSJ2 COMPLETELY using every bit of energy in his body STILL wasn't enough to fully destroy even fat buu - much less super buu - is bad sign for Gotenks' chances.
If Akria explains what Piccolo means when Buu regenerates from smoke it will be confirmed that Gotenks only needed super saiyan to defeat super Buu, but I still think no matter what Gotenks could have defeated him. I think Trunks tricks Goten into his plan of waiting for the last few minutes, but a way we could have seen Gotenks kill super Buu is if Goten somehow convinces trunks into going full power from the start, something like Goten saying "Trunks don't you think it would be better to impress everyone with our training from the start!" Then Trunks would try to convince Goten of the plan of waiting for the last few minutes again but fails as Goten says "Wouldn't you want to make your father proud I mean he died to protect you and your mom." Or something like that, but all I'm saying is that super saiyan 3 was overkill
Buu would just absorbed Gotenks if he started losing the fight. So I don't see Gotenks winning especially with his lack of discipline.
Theoretically they could beat him imo however they wouldn't be able to do it quick enough and buu would get pissed and absorb them and if gohan fell for it then gotenks definitely would
One of the stupidest things about the buu character was that Vegeta worked out the only way to beat him was to blow him up so he couldnt regenerate. Piccolo worked out thats why Vegeta blew himself up yet nobody apart from Vegeta ever acted on this. Instead everybody else wastes time fighting him and then being shocked that they can't beat him.
Literally when they were all at the lookout together meaning Goku Goten and Trunks couldn't Piccolo have mentioned "oh by the way, we need to blow him up".
My question about Buu is his Ki? If is limitless he couldn't be beat, it seems like he only has so much and limited power level. Is it he can only use so much at once or has a limit and it just regenerates like his body?
I had the impression neither Gotenks nor Buu were giving it their all.
Gotenks was just having fun with it because he's a kid. (Which is dumb IMO, since Buu ate his family, but I digress.)
Buu wasn't taking it too seriously because he needed to absorb Gotenks later.
That being said, Buu was pretty vulnerable the moment Gotenks had trapped him. I've no doubt Gotenks could've finished him there.

Vegito also showed that after Buu was getting beaten badly, he had to exert more effort to regenerate each time, even failing to fully do so at one time with a hole in his stomach
Vegito if he wanted too, couldve vaporized Buu at his full power.
Buu even showed his full power in the energy ball and Vegito easily sent it back

There are limits to buus regeneration. In the vegito fight and goku fight we see that he starts to breakdown and can't completely regenerate without effort. It seems that his regeneration has a limit we just never got to that point until the spirit bomb.
In context of ssj3 gotenks I don't see any point where he was reaching the limits of his regeneration. In my mind that's a sign he was holding back
I always felt it was because as he absorbed more people, he was less of just “buu” so his magic and regeneration was weaker. When he goes back to kid buu, his regeneration is insane and seems to be at its best.
true, also, right after gotenks runs out of ssj3, you can se that boo immediatly regenerates from his bruises and does that evil grin, which shows that maybe he was just pretending all of the time

If sparring with a strong training partner gives massive gains to power.... how much stronger could Piccolo have gotten in the Saiyan Saga had he used his giant form to train against oozaru Gohan every full moon for a year?? Maybe even more often since namekians can magic things into existence at will. If the saiyans can make an artificial moon, surely namekians can too.
Would this also give Gohan a big boost too, and perhaps he could've learnt to control it (and thus his anger)?
Also, there is one line in the Buu saga from Gohan "I can't get angry like I used to", after Goku says he is unbeatable when he's angry. Gohan's character arc in this saga should've been about that: learning to harness and control that power at will, without the need for a trigger. That's how he should've unlocked his Ultimate power.

My only guess is that Vegeta was factually stronger then his other counterpart when Trunks was conceived since he had a stronger motivation for training in this timeline
