      This is incorrect as China will definiitely be the oldest. Their "official" birth rates after 1980 are 1.3-1.5,when they had the one child policy, and they were not industrialised for another 20 years. Preindustrial societies "all" have high infant mortality rates.
      All of this means that China's birthrate from 1980 would have been about 0.85 AT BEST, which is the lowest in the entire world, significantly below Even South Korea , who only recently reached this figurre as its lowest point in its history

    An older median age is a key indicator of a country's wealth. The wealthier and more developed a country is, the longer people live, and so the median age of that country also rises.

    • @adityajha4648
      @adityajha4648 2 роки тому +25

      Also low fertility rate is a major cause.

    • @sitandchill2897
      @sitandchill2897 2 роки тому +6

      @@adityajha4648 this is linked to wealth. Average number of children per family in rich countries is lower than in poorer ones, because of lack of education around family planning in the poorer countries, and high infant mortality meaning a single child is a risk in those places. More kids means more mouths to feed, and if you have a very low wage already it means you have less chance of socially mobilizing beyond poverty. It's counterproductive having too many children per family, but is a symptom of widespread poverty in any given society. This is why you'll notice an average of 4-5 children in poor families, vs the 1-2 children average in middle class families. China's economy booming is partly thanks to their 1 child policy which managed their population growth to sustainable levels.

    • @adityajha4648
      @adityajha4648 2 роки тому +15

      But it's a double edged sword as you say. China revoked One child policy and introduced two child in 2013-14 I guess. In 2021, they did it 3 or something, but common Chinese do not want to bear more children due to rising living costs. So, they are facing a threat of demographic collapse as they'll get old before they become rich. Population can be boon or bane depends how you see.
      In upcoming future, we might see a world where millionaires and billionaires will have more than 3 children while only 1-2 for commoners which will lead to population collapse on Earth as Elon Musk predicted.

    • @theagnosticdeist3373
      @theagnosticdeist3373 2 роки тому +4

      Not necessarily yes because ageing can also be the result of people having fewer kids because they don't have enough money to raise kids and the working population moving to other countries for a better living. This happens with developed countries that are in crisis, Example:- Greece

    We're really in a tough situation in the modern day. Unrestrained population growth will further harm our environment, make resources scarcer, force people to live more densely, etc. While an ageing population will result in economic stagnation/decline, potential collapse of welfare systems, and perhaps less innovation and advancement. The only way to maintain stability is to either maintain world population or allow it to grow very slowly, with the average woman having 2 or 3 children

      I believe, at least I hope that birth dates in the first world won't just keep going down forever. That's total nonsense and it's not taking into account the current political situation and paradigm shift. Instead, what's most likely is that we're at the end of a bell curve with birth rates and they will increase again. Malthusian limits are never naturally reached and often times backlashes towards trends create much stronger trends in the opposite direction.

Even most of my relatives only have 1 or two kids maximum 3. While back in the days people had larger families. Future is all about Automation. GOOD JOB CHINA for keeping your population under control.
    the declining population will be compensated by the improving automation. If there was no 'One Child policy', China shouldn't have achieved what it is today. Total respect, from India

      What do you want? To be lazy as hell cuz of automation? This thing is surely good for science and humanity but in my opinion it's not good for our children. They take everything for granted. But this automation will surely unemploy and make goods invaluable produced by humans. If everything is automated then why are we even here? Humans are not made to sit and eat.
