You could see in Campbell's face during the timeout before the last 4th down that they were ready for that situation. I really liked the fake toss reverse they ran to Saint on the drive before inside the 20. Little old wing T concept with Penei leading the way.
I sincerely enjoy and appreciate your football perspective. Not just schematics but the nuance in your titles and ability to assign "subplots" make these must-watch. The combination of objectively being used as a basis for a subjective take is meaningful. Thx for taking an interest in our Lions!!
Campbell using double te that focus on a block, jumbo package and rb being the big driving force of offense really changed the offensive ways of nfl. Weird to say other teams are copying the lions
Thank you again Coach! Most, if not all Lions' fans will agree, as will most around the league, that Dan Campbell is not just a Coach of the Year canidate; he has already won the award, biting kneecaps every step of the way! Otherwise solid analysis as usual. The last 4th down conversion locked the game and they ran toward Penei with David Mo for a reason. The formation you break down makes complete sense. It locks the game with a 1st down and the ultimate walk off FG! As to the extra Tim Patrick TD play shown on 3rd down ...no problem. As commented in a previous film study, please do a film study on WR Tim Patrick! Why Sean Peyton in Denver would sign WR Josh Reynolds while releasing WR Tim Patrick is a mystery. The upgrade for the Lions at WR3 with Patrick over Reynolds is truly noteworthy. Thanks again coach. #GoLions #WeGotGoff #CoachDanTheMan #PeneiPower #FrankTheTank #CantonizeStBrown #DMoKnucklesDown #GibbsGoesSonic
I believe you’re spot on and very few analysts or fans have the “curiosity” to dig the deep. So many are so superficial, with a “worked / didn’t work” logic and don’t really consider a deeper strategy.
Since I’ve been watching this channel the past couple couple seasons, I’ve learned to try to look at the game from a 30,000 foot view and eliminating anomalous plays to understand which team really controlled the game. From that perspective, the Lions thoroughly controlled this entire game.
The Packers had only 1 good drive, the Lions had 4 good drives By good drives I mean- 1. Scoring a TD 2. Starting from within your own 35 yard line 3. Getting at least at least 2 first downs
Something to consider when looking at the personnel groupings for the Lions is that they were without Decker for the second week in a row with Skipper replacing him at LT (this weeks In the Huddle podcast had Skip alluding to the assistance and changes the line makes when he is in there which might explain some of the issues Glasgow and Ragnow had in the run game, but I digress )in regard to the 4th downs I would normally expect to see a Jumbo 11 or 12 with Skipper as the extra lineman with one of Decker or Skip as an eligible receiver just to keep the Wills eyes honest. The 13 does much the same but with a different sort of athleticism.
The Lions indeed had a timeout left, However, they had already called a time out on that last 4th down play, so it was essentially do or die. 4th and inches, 43 seconds on the clock and well within field goal range.
My main reason for watching this is for some dream scouting for our Ravens next headcoach. Campbell? Kingsbury? Glenn? Fraiser? Orr? Munkin? Philly's oc? That 4th and inches was a thing of beauty.
They came out of a timeout right before that final 4th down play, so they couldn't have called another. Knowing the Lions though, depending on the look GB gave I'm sure they had a pass check that Goff could have gotten into if that would have been more advantageous based on the defensive alignment. They seem to always go to the line with two play calls and give Goff the freedom to "kill kill" based on what he sees. Love the content, thanks for doing so much with the Lions!
So I think that Dan goes for it on 4th down for a few reasons.one he gets a extra down to run his plays.two everytime he does he gets more data to know a team's tenacitys.the lions do more then just run plays and react to what another team does I think the lions do things to get a certain outcome.then use to there advantage.so basically they make other ppl play there game.thats why they can do what they want most of the time.i think it's a genius idea.not to mention you get all four downs to play instead of just 3.so he is adding a extra chance for his team to win.while other teams are kicking it on 4th down.the nfl is about who can make that one extra play.well Dan gives his team at the least a few chances to do that while the other team has none.thats why he's 12-1.thats why ppl are so mad
Great breakdown. Thanks for doing this. RE the fourth and inches for the Lions at the end of the game, they wouldn't have been able to call another time out. Illegal for the same team to call back to back time-outs in the NFL on the same play from scrimmage.
People aren't talking about how MCDC was going to kick the field goal on 4th down until Jared Freaking Goff told him he wanted to go for it! Let's go #ONEPRIDE 💪🏽🦁
Love your analysis. What do you think about all the Packer fans blaming the refs for that loss. I felt there were bad calls on both sides but nothing so a grievous that it was lopsided and cost them the game. Ironically, the Lions historically have been on the losing side of bad refereeing with both the Packers and the Cowboys so I find their reaction to be priceless. 😂
Good analysis, but I think every team is doing this kind of scrutiny of past plays for the future. This is why you see the dynamics of games changing especially after half-time. That being said, it still takes guts to trust your guys to execute it properly on 4th down. There is obviously a much deeper analysis being done by the Lions staff prior from past games of that week's opponent. Using this same thought process in reverse, you will see the Lions use many different looks on offense to thro their opponents off.
TERRELL WILLIAMS (27 years coaching experience)? Who else could have bandages up this DL as effectively as him. Give all the credit you want to AG and the players, ...they deserve it, but please don't overlook the obstacles with injuries on the line. Make a list of his linemen and games they have missed! I am not seeing ANYONE else mention this coaches name. NOWHERE! / I absolutely LOVE your analysis of everything you present! Well done!
I wonder if they'll eventually switch out St.Browns colored shoes, so people would have been so used to tracking him that way and then all of a sudden he looks to disappear, because he's changed them out for plain shoes like everyone else.
Was fine with all the fourth down decisions except the one where Campbell went for it on the Lions own 30 yard line. This was dumb in my opinion. Just punt the ball because he put an already depleted defense in a very bad spot and Green Bay scored. Can't be doing that especially in the playoffs.
I'm comfortable with Dan's decisions at this point. He had his reasons for taking that risk and I have far more faith in his decisions than I do in yours or my own analysis. I do agree that the down and distance is definitely saying punt but I don't have all the details on that decision.

@@TheBestPracticeSwingInGolf thank you. Very kind of you to say.
Appreciate all your videos on the lions coach. Great work
Dan is so old school, his thought process is futuristic, as everything old is new again.
Campbell using double te that focus on a block, jumbo package and rb being the big driving force of offense really changed the offensive ways of nfl. Weird to say other teams are copying the lions
Nice job as always. You really show us the game within the game. The Lions are out there playing chess

By good drives I mean-
1. Scoring a TD
2. Starting from within your own 35 yard line
3. Getting at least at least 2 first downs
All of GBs TDs, except 1 came from getting the ball to start almost already in the redzone
The play count & TOP speak to Detroit dominated the game, besides 3 turnovers in the game
Thank you for this one. Your football knowledge helps me truly appreciate what we’re seeing.
Great analysis
You're my favorite football dude on UA-cam, coach.
💯grateful for a window into the coaching excellence at all levels that we’ve never had the opportunity to enjoy before as lions fans.
Wow, you don't miss a beat. Great job showing me what I don't know when I'm actually watching the game.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...
This really helps me to understand how the game is played.
"You Grok it Sir"
Thank you for your lions content Chief

If you listen to the audio you hear Goff call an audible to an outside run. They had multiple plays ready for whatever look the packers gave
goff deserves credit for not botching the handoff
The play switching ASB and Gibbs had GB scrambling and one of the most underrated plays of the game. Genius with the quick snap.
I shared this and everyone else should as well. Football deserves to be appreciated at a higher level
What a game and great pick up on a pattern of play calling.
Thanks coach!
Love your analysis coach, keep up the great work brother.
Thanks for highlighting this genius work! Go Lions!
My main reason for watching this is for some dream scouting for our Ravens next headcoach. Campbell? Kingsbury? Glenn? Fraiser? Orr? Munkin? Philly's oc?
That 4th and inches was a thing of beauty.
Never Campbell, he belongs to Detroit. Even in your dreams. I would just stick with Harbaugh if I was you.
This is what "think a little deeper and a little sharper" looks like. #Grit#OnePride
Superb breakdown/explanation. Thank you. God bless :)
Excellent work & analysis! I’m a lifelong football & Lions fan. I greatly appreciate & look forward to your analysis and observations!

The Lions blitzed the heck of out Love early and it took a while for Love to adjust. He looked rattled going 3-10 in the first half.

Awesome video coach
Thanks some much, enjoy your breakdown.
Great content Coach!! #Sewell
Early week 5 bye then 3 games in 11 days... These linemans gotta be exhausted
Third game*
Moving Patrick to block the defender and keep the hole open is pure brilliance.
People aren't talking about how MCDC was going to kick the field goal on 4th down until Jared Freaking Goff told him he wanted to go for it! Let's go #ONEPRIDE 💪🏽🦁

these are the new Lions and not playing like the old ones.
In the hurry up, offense makes a substitution. Defense is allowed same. Entirely change the formation and watch the defense in chaos
The lions couldn't use a timeout before 4th down play because they had already used a timeout before lining up and you can't use back to back timeouts
Cant you use back to back timeouts to ice a kicker?

MCDC be like 😤
At 9:24 id actually argue they’re running duo, not zone.
They’re doubling 58 & 57
I wonder if they'll eventually switch out St.Browns colored shoes, so people would have been so used to tracking him that way and then all of a sudden he looks to disappear, because he's changed them out for plain shoes like everyone else.
Another good video goats
🦁 12-1 😁
Nice work🤯💪🏾🫡
I actually like the shorter videos, you may do better to chop these up a bit into 4-6 play sessions.
your thumbnail stinks.
