- Today @WorkingHorsesWithJim, my daughters, Trudy and Abby, hitch up the Percheron draft horses to the sleigh to take some friends for a girls sleigh ride to the cabin and go ice skating.

Ken and Buck were such a nice team for sleigh rides , their black coats in contrast to the snow is beautiful!
I look at this again ,,it was a great time for those girls,,,and the horses were so proud to do this....
Well here it is a year later, and I watched this again, and got just as much if not more fun/pleasure out of seeing how much fun the girls had. for sure that day's memory's for them will last them their lifetimes. I'm pushing 80 now and let me tell you I love reliving those kinds of memories of my youth. so thanks for sharing yours again. kudos to Jim for his undershot of the sleigh.I loved looking at how it was built, I know its a guy thing. but thanks for that Jim and to all thanks for sharing this time and memories again. Well how fun was that? It does my old heart good to see the younger folks enjoying some good clean fun. And not once did I see any of them with a phone in front of their face. You and your Mrs. did a wonderful job raising those girls.

I guess the horses know the “boss” is not at the controls and they seem to like to get into top gear. They are probably thinking enough with this hanging around let’s get back to the barn into the shade from the wind and have a feed of hay..... you girls had your pizza now we want ours.

Girls that looks like a lot of fun but I was stationed in Rome New York at the air base and y'all can have you all this nice snow I'm from Georgia I really don't appreciate it anymore I came back from Vietnam and went to there right after some leave and I said I think that's wasn't bad then woke up the next morning and then 10 inches of snow y'all are a Hardy family get warm keep healthy and exercise the horses when you can, keep helping your dad and mom when you can and love those colts they're the prettiest things and so full of character.
A time to be treasured. The ladies seemed to have enjoyed it. Not sure about Ken & Buck soo much.........They were certainly pulling for home !!!!!

Nice, when we were in our teens, we would shovel the pond off and go skating after milking till about 2 in the morning! had a fire- then go to the barn at 5! Love your new logo!

Looks like the girls had a fun time. was glad to see they put the blankets on Buck & Ben whilst they were skating and eating etc. as for the snow and wind I can relate to that. we have around 18 inches of snow on the ground here and it got down to -8F last night and is only 4 above now. so good day to have nice hot cup of coffee/soup and enjoy this video. Thanks again for doing it and taking us along for the joy of it. Take care God speed..

I love to look at the snow and the beautiful scenery but I'll stay down here in Georgia and just look I was stationed Griffiths Griffithsright after Vietnam and that was the most miserable year and a half I ever had that cold cold flight line and we didn't have no warm blooded horses to help keep us warm and I'm just not tough enough for the northern part of the country y'all do great merry Christmas and take care of those wonderful animals and see you next year

I watch all your videos. We have a music school and plan an annual December recital/Christmas party where we plan to show your video “Sleigh Ride” with computer and projector. We will play and sing holiday songs like Jingle Bells. Unfortunately Texas city kids have never seen horses pull a real sleigh in deep snow with real sleigh bells. So, Thank you!

What Dad is allowing here is confidence building for his daughters, driving the team; of course we know this team is extremely well-behaved, but that wouldn't mean that things can't happen.( I have some experience with that). And I am sure, that mom Brenda, the nurse, saw to it, that the necessary precautions were taken, after all we live in precarious COVID times.

Great video..so good to see young people enjoying simple pleasures.. Jim couple of Qs.. where were the horses when girls were inside? but more importantly.. when the girls or Brenda (as in your teaching mowing video) or even Justin are working the horses do you find the horses are looking or listening for the "boss" as they know you are there somewhere???
The horses were waiting outside the cabin. Yes, the horses are always looking and listening for Jim(this is Brenda speaking)

Very nice and interesting as always! One question though: How are the bells (is it kind of a belt?) connected to the harness. We're working with draft horses too, but with the american style harnesses only for one year, so first time sleigh driving this way. Thanks for sharing.
I have some very old sleigh bells, mine are on a leather belt/strap, about two to three inches wide. The bells are ornate brass, very heavy and beautiful.
Those particular bells are just snapped on

I'm sorry. But I could not leave that cabin without kicking and screaming. To be able to stay a weekend there, would be better than a blind bridle on a brand new mule. Just watching this video I seen at least 20 things to do rite off.

Did anyone in this video know how to build a fire in the stove in the cabin? Is more training needed? The horses need a shed out of the wind while the girls are skating and eating. Maybe a project for next year.
