Have you wondered why your factory recommended maintenance schedule says to replace your timing belt, when your car seems to be running just fine? Here's a good animation showing what the timing belt is, where it is, and what happens when it fails. It should be noted that most timing belt failures are not because the belt actually "broke", but actually lost some of the "teeth" on the belt causing it to slip.

It's true, timing belt is so important, it should be inspected and be replaced. How many years is its duration?

I have a Lancer 2.0 and s
it is only 44.000 kilometers with 9 years of usage, I changed the timing belt and puley, it was in very good shape, i'd say it can last easily 10 years or 90k kilometers whereever comes first. (Using good products)

what if the timing belt broke while you were time traveling? could it make a copy of your self to be in 2 times eras or would you travel to the dinosaur age?

That's a trick question, DeLorean motor cars use a timing chain not a breakable belt.
