    Wow. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawk that ending! Like, I've got no connection to the story or your party, but even I felt super bummed and emotionally invested when the twist dropped. I'd always been interested in the FH, read a few things here and there, and literally watched a 30 minute essay about the thing a couple hours ago. This was the only vid(s) I could find with a FH in actual play and both parts were really fun to watch. Sucks to see that you don't really upload much, because honestly, I really enjoyed watching your group play. Thanks a ton for the cool adventure and giving us a taste of what the FH can be like in a play setting.

      Happy to help! It was a great time trying to figure out, "How do I made it feel like there really IS a person-sized hole in their memories?" I'm glad you're feeling inspired :)

    That was an amazing encounter and the buildup was next to none. I am very much 'borrowing' ideas from this, thank you so much for putting this out.

      Please do! Most of my ideas were borrowed and just combined to make something coherent. By all means take what you like and leave the rest

    man my heart broke by the ending! love how you did it!!! Im planning on using the false hydra on my players, any advice on how to do it?

      Thank you! I appreciate it!
      My advice would be to plan ahead. I started this campaign knowing that I would use a false hydra later, so I was able to drop small clues here and there of what would have been Oksana helping the party. So they found healing potions during desperate times in odd places or everyone was healed by unseen magic after a challenging fight. I really wanted to give the players the sense that they had someone ripped from their memories, as opposed to just their characters memories, which meant the "memory re-write" needed to start early to have substantial impact for my purposes.
      I saw a video on someone's TikTok of using the artist's portrait to convey a missing party member and absolutely fell in love with the idea. I knew an artist who was a mutual friend of all of the players so it wasn't strange when they joined the call on discord to present their art, and that's when the penny dropped. The whole series turned out so much better than I could have hoped

    btw can i ask for the maps that you used for this campaign?

    • @FigNewton7
      @FigNewton7  29 днів тому +1

      The vast majority of maps I used I pulled from posts in the r/battlemaps subreddit. If I recall correctly someone there shared a link to a google drive that had custom versions of most of the maps in the Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign

    17:32 - Considering the party is wearing earmuffs, what ability did the Hydra use on this party member?

    • @FigNewton7
      @FigNewton7  4 місяці тому

      It used Dominate Person, which does not require the target to hear you like some other spells like Vicious Mockery

    In the last video the animals saw the hydra. How do the animals see the hydra? I thought as long as the hydra is signing you cannot see it. This thing could be inches away from you singing an you will not see it. I thought the only time it stops signing is when its feasting or fighting.

    • @restuhernando

      As far as i know, scared animal or no presence of animal is one of the sign that there are false hydra around

      I gave the hydra the mechanic that its song only effects creatures with an INT higher than 4, so most regular animals would hear the song and see the False Hydra. Just another way to drop a hint to the party
