- Awesome live performance by one of the most awesome lady Country singers ever. Moving and poignant lyrics which, as Kathy says, "teach a lesson" we all should appreciate.
This song really says it all. There is so much we do take for granted, mostly precious people we won't have forever.
So pleased you posted this Kathy track singled out from the whole evening. It is sensational and I still can't get through it with dry eyes. There sure is a powerful message here.
At 76, this song hits home!!!
Wow. She is running at 120% perfection.
A perfect song. And, the most beautiful and perfect performance!
This was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. And i love it even today as an adult. I absolutely love songs with a message in them. And Kathy's voice is so great. I still listen to it a few times a day.
I cry every time I hear this song from beautiful Kathy
A fantastic performance by an amazing artist. Sadly, Kathy has always been unfairly underrated while in reality, she was always a greater artist than most mainstream performers because the quality of her singing and repertoire is at a much higher level than the mainstream media ans associations wanted to portray.
Big AMEN. She is without a doubt top 10 female country vocalist!! She kept me going from 1987-1998 when I felt I was not gonna make. Give me JESUS and Kathy. Girl you will never know!🙏🤠🔥🎶
Chills! She has put out some beautiful music, and this is one of my favorites. Her voice and this performance is absolutely flawless!

Still love this song. One of the truest and profound song ever written and sang.
Love her voice. So strong and she just hits every note beautifully.
Just a very touching song that everyone can relate to, I know I can . But we do learn my not be about ones we let go, but what it feels like and how we feel inside and about ourselves. Thank you Kathy, you are a true women .
Kathy Mattea , always like her songs .
When I first heard this song in 1993, I thought it was a touching and beautiful song, had some meaning, but my life was full. I took my life, my family, my friends for granted because I thought they would always be there and my life would never change. Now, in 2021, it is more than just a touching and beautiful song. My entire family are all gone. My best friend for over 44 years, my support system actually, passed in 2019, suddenly and unexpectedly. Even my faithful companion for 19 years (Hobbes, my 19 year old cat) passed in 2020. Man, I miss them all and would give anything to have one last day with each of them....
I've had experiences with friends and loved ones passing at an early age about whom I always thought "someday I'm going to sit with them and talk about old times, and let them know I always valued their friendship and support more than I ever let on". And before "someday" ever came, they were gone. There are people in my life now who I fear may not be here a lot longer (or at my age that I may be the one leaving), and I don't wish to have those regrets again. That's why this song came to mean so much to me, and why I share it with others, so we can all be pro-active about not waiting for "someday" to let people know what they mean to us and the positive impact they've had on our lives.
@@kspent Amen..., well said. I hope someone who hears this song does "get it" before it is too late for them. I am hoping that one day I will be back with "my people" and maybe then I can say "I am sorry", but it won't be here. 😥
I hear you just lost my dog of 9 years and at 67 almost everone is gone hold onto the memories in your heart and thoughts
Why isn't this CMA special available on DVD or streaming? It was an awesome evening of television and needs to me resurrected...
One of my favourite singer and favourite songs. First heard it going thru a tough time. It really helped me get through/over/past it into a wonderful new life. Thank you Kathy!

Kathy is so down to earth, that is why I like her music. I am blessed to have all of her CDs. I belonged to her fan club for years. I don't know if it exists anymore. She is a very classy lady with alot of great qualities. I think she is totally awesome. Thank you Kathy for your great music over the years. Every CD and song tell a story. From a proud Canadian fan.
🇨🇦🙏😀🌹(not 18 wheels and a dozen roses. lol 😄
One of the most beautiful voices ever created for us to hear, thank you Lord!
Go WV!!!!!! Never knew you were from West Virginia until I saw the state flag in the backdrop. In the video of 18 Wheels
beautiful! I wonder why we have almost all that we need but are hungry for more? Is that the same as always striving to be better, being too lonely or never being satisfied
Hello Vanessa
I think back about the mid 80's and this song. I was a 16 or 17 year kid from northern WI who was and still is crazy about Kathy Mattea. Her voice just gave me shivers. This song holds near to my heart. I love the line ..friends I can count on.. I can count with one hand, with a left over finger or two. Really hits home. Still gotta crush on you Kathy!! Thank you for you're gift!!
Bob McDill, Dickey Lee and Bucky Jones wrote this beautiful song, as a writer it's important to me for you to know who's passion it was that put pen to paper!
And as a Writer I would say Amen!
As a co-write of Bucky, I say amen also.
Couldn't have put it better than the comment at the top.
Spot on!
I love women like her that feels so deeply.
amazing
Beautiful
The shoulder pads in Ms. Mattea's outfit are dated, but the singer and the song are still fresh.
Still alive
Great Larry Cordle song.
Larry Cordle did not write this song.
Don William wrote it I think
No.
