And the fact that Meryl in-game tells you she got used to guns before getting used to wearing bra. Which lead to in-joke that she simply doesn't wear one in MGS1 because she is the Rookie who just finished her training.

"Is the storyline important?"
The storyline is EVERYTHING! And it's so good! Seriously, the first game where I had to keep playing just to find out what happens next in the story.
There are lots of “metal gear: the movie” videos where people have edited the games down into more digestible 4-6 hour movies. They’re all very enjoyable if you don’t want to play the games yourself
52:04 Psycho mantis is awesome, he makes a brief appearance later on in mgs4, but since that game is on the ps3 instead of the ps1 he cant read your data and says “where’s your memory card?!” Then he does the controller trick again and is like “Yesss! Vibration’s back baby!”
Hilariously this interaction was added later because initially Mantis had a mental breakdown over SIXaXIS - original boomerang like PS3 controller - which HAD NO VIBRATION.
So Originally joke was about Mantis trying his old tricks and failing spectaculary due to being out of touch with new tech... And once PS3 got new gamepad with vibration - Mantis (like every PS3 player) was beside himself with joy because...
VIBRATION IS BAAAACK!!!
Fun fact: liquid snake is voiced by Cam Clarke. He has also voiced Leonardo in the 1987 TMNT cartoon, the English dub of Kaneda form Akira, Simba in the lion king sequels and spinoffs, and has a nearly 50 year long music career.
It is also worth noting (IH skipped reveal in post credits scene) that morale of the story "Genetics do not define who you are" was also ironic one towards Liquid who was obsessed with genetics!
Liquid was so hang up on being supposedly "Bad leftovers" clone made with recessive genes of Big Boss while Solid was supposed to be superior one... When the post-credits scene reveals a dialogue between goverment officials being SHOCKED by Solid Snake surviving because...
Liquid was the SUPERIOR CLONE all along! It was Solid who got "leftovers" - which perfectly explains why Liquid was SO HARD to kill, why they injected Solid with FOXDIE (because no one thought he will prevail) and also why FOXDIE didn't go off on Solid Snake - the genetic marker Naomi got for him was wrong!
And in the end it makes Solid Snake's achievments even more amazing! Because his success is not simply because of his genetics but because of his skills, hard work and power of will - all while Liquid, talented superiour soldier, thought himself inferior to him because of what Solid achieved!
I'm scared of all these exclamation marks.

I love these long Internet Historian videos. And Metal Gear Solid.

My mom bought me this game when i was 12 without even looking into what it was , back in the day when parents thought all videogame where just silly children theme stuff.
It was my first time being exposed to soo much serious themes and plots , and the characters were silly but badasses. The Nostalgia

In the Japanese version, the dude that Meryl beat up in the beginning, still had his draws on. So I have no idea why they removed them for the International version.

27:50 If you're curious, one of the justifications here is that Metal Gear can launch a nuclear payload directly from its railgun arm. It's not on a missile, it's just lobbed directly at the target, so there's no heat signature or anything else you could trace like you would normally get from a missile. That means the launch would be undetected by early warning systems, and it couldn't be intercepted. It also conveniently get around a lot of treaties by not being a missile.
Oh yeah and Punk Duck's How To Metal Gear Solid is a pretty funny review of the entire series

I remember buying the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for PS3… I still have the case, just checked again… Meryl’s codec is nowhere on the case nor is it in the game manual. Great job Sony!
