  • Bastian is explaining why it is super important to make sure you buy the right thermal or night vision clip-on adapter. Buying a cheap Chinese clip-on adapter will make your expensive thermal or night vision clip-on inaccurate. Don't waste thousands of dollars for mediocre accuracy when you can by a praezise jagen (precise hunting) adapter which is perfectly accurate.

    Good job explaining things.
It's like using a 5,000 bean scope from a good company, with a 30 bean mount from overseas.

I can attest to this. I use a Nitehog Viper and have these Pecise Hunting adapters on 3 different centrefire firearms used for primary production, depending on the usage need, 2 bolt actions and one autoloader. In each case, I can swap the thermal instantly between any of these firearms, with NO zero change at all. In fact, NO need to zero in the first place. We do appreciate good gear, and people who import and sell it , so thank you

Hey mate, thanks for the great feedback! I told Nitehog i didn't believe their guarantee of no zero shift......then I had to apologies lol It is the only thermal I trust 100% of the time. Glad you are finding the same! Happy Hunting. Baz

I maybe missing the point here......the scope itself provides the accuracy.....the clip on device only allows the imagery to be enhanced to the vision of the scope. Agreed the device needs to be in the ball park of the scopes field of view, electronic range finders maybe...but as long as that is achieved the accuracy still sits within the scopes accuracy initially. ???? sales pitch or a practical requirement?

You would think so, but unfortunately that is not true. It should be true but it has to do with how well the lens of the thermal is made. In reality there is only one brand that can guarantee it will hit your scopes zero straight out of the box (consistently) which is the nitehog viper series. every other thermal clipon needs sighting in. Sometimes they are bang on, but it is not guaranteed and more luck than science. Therefore, if you do not have the clipon in the exact same position every time, your zero will wonder. Hope that makes sense? What is however a marketing plot is when they say "re-zero". This implies that the clipon is in the same position then the thermal will hit the same spot after taking it off and putting it on again. Hope that clarifies it? If not please keep asking because you wont be the only one thinking this.

I might get a chance to make a video on this at some point showing what happens when you change the clipon position. It will take some time tho.

Any time your adding lenses, it CAN shift your zero. Hell, ive been shooting magnifiers on my Eotechs for years and just learned that you should actually zero them too. I was hitting steel at 3 and 400 so I assumed the zero was spot on when actuality, they were sometimes off a bit

It appears when you refer to being a more accurate mount ....what these designers did was allow for a mount where the lens of both components are aligned with minimal run out of concentricity ..

Yes and no, it is likely to be more in the centre due to tighter tolerances, but it is more about the repeatability of having the clipon in the exact same spot every time.

Just like a quick release rail or ring for your day scope.

This is why a chassis system rules for bolt guns lol. A thermal with an ADM mount on picatinny rail beats those Objective Lens adapters.

The bell end of the scope is called the OBJECTIVE young man ....

You should mention that if you have the Nitehog Viper, you dont need the 3x eyepiece... because the unit has a second mode for handheld use. Incredibly well thought out.
