    This is exactly what I have been looking for. A practical way to better understand the map in the context of harmonizing a tune! As someone who did not major in music or take theory in college, THANK YOU!

    Very interesting. I did not get all of it but going from the V (G7) to the VIm (Am) instead of the I was an eye opener!

    Thank you so much! As probably lot of people I had lots of these progressions in my ear but never understood the mechanics behind. Now I can reharm any tune in whatever key and enrich my vocabulary. Again, thank you so much

    Wow! It is always a joy to see these tutorials.
    I actually had a tutorial (VHS!) video from the 90's by Richard Tee where he did something similar with "Happy Birthday"...and of course he did it without any sheet music or anything, just off the top of his head. It was awesome!

    hey man, this seems interesting, im brand new, and i want to be able to understand as a fresh brain, so this is my journey so far, i do production for hip hop style beats, from boom bap 90s style to current trap style, i also like to make house music, disco, and even corridos, i want to make very melodic disco like in the 70s and real groovy, so where do i start, learning to read music sheets? learn orchestra instruments? i want to be able to create great original music

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому

      Yes, of course. And it will show it to you on a keyboard or guitar as well. You can also choose between many different A.I. players that know different set of voicings.

    Great lesson and excellent tips on reharming, thank you! Your subVs seem to be altered (like the b5 in the sub of D7 15:00 and the #9 your adding to the sub of G7 17:10), is there some insight as to how/why?
    Looking forward to the next episodes :)

      Sure, the Ab7b5 is being used as a Fr+6 and the Db7 has an E melody.

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому +1

      The sheet music is in the latest post in our membership tab on youtube. But you're talking about the xml file for Mapping Tonal Harmony Pro, then it's not in the catalog. You can easily add it by creating a new song and then add the chords.

    Hi, I wonder why the subV/V using b5 not #11 like other subV? 14:36

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому

      We chose the b5 option to imply a Fr+6 (but the default is 7#11)

  • @gilman8662

    Hi about Moving from subV7b5 /V to ii7 then V7 how do you know it is possible because there wasn’t any arrow pointing to the ii7 from the subV7b5/ V. Thanks you. I love the lecture.

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому

      Yes, not all arrows are shown in the map (it would look pretty messy) Only the most crucial paths are shown. The expected resultion of the subV/V is the V (and there's an arrow there, from the secondary dominants of the V to the V) But as we discuss in many videos interpolating a related 2 (before a V) is always effective. So there ii is acting as an interpolation.

      Hi Danielle, yes, delete it and install the latest version from the AppStore. I haven't received any other bug reports mentioning no sound on iPad, so it could be a good idea to try that. Let me know what happens.

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому

      For harmony, you can start, and go all the way to the end with the Art of Reharmonization. For piano voicings the Essential Piano Voicings Vol.1 (4-note rootless voicings)

    I can't find the composer's guide (mentioned at 3:31) on the website, how do I get that? Also I'd love to see a video that has some examples of when the iii chord functions as tonic and some examples of when it functions as dominant. Thanks!

    Awesome intro to The Map. But do we have to 2 5 1 or sub. 5 everything! Do we allways have to go around the clock in that direction? Many popular songs go the other way. Where do chromatic mediants fit as another way to get out of the diatonic box?

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Рік тому

      Hi, no, you can play any chords you want in any order. Just remember to use those "best roads" whenever you want to imply tonality consistently. But once you know those roads, the beauty in music often rely on the few rules you break.
