I’ve run into this several times as well. You mention a defect in a brand new gun or other product and all these morons will jump on the “it’s just a tool it’s going to get used” wagon. Brand new guns shouldn’t be leaving the factory with scratches. I was looking for a Ruger vaquero last year and could not find one in a local gun shop that wasn’t full of deep scratches from the factory. Looked at like 4 or 5 of them, ended up getting the best one I could find and polished the scratches out myself…ridiculous. Same when I was looking for a new stainless Python. Got it home and found deep machine marks all over the gun. Sent it back to colt, they had it for like 2 months and then said they would replace it. Then a few weeks later said “they didn’t have any without defects” so they reimbursed me instead

If the slide was locked open and a magazine inserted , when the slide was released it wouldn’t pick up the first round , never . If he sling shot the slide No issues . I have been dealing with this since the early 80's. Some of the crap that they put out 40 years ago is coming back. Colt goes through these periods of poor QC, they got better in the late 80's and early 90's but they are falling off again. This guy that I know has a stainless colt competition model with very bad huge gouge marks inside the slide just past the locking lug notches. Terrible safety lever, he paid over 1k and it only came with 1 mag. He's over 50 yrs old first time gun buyer, bought the gun by its name thinking Colt is the flagship of firearms. I agree with you WGP! products we buy with our over taxed hard earned money should be free of defects inside and out. Excellent video!!
Ive had 3 new Colts in recent history, one a cutom order custom shop SAA, one a 1911 and the last and final purchase ever from Colt was a 2020 Python. All three came from the factory with issues. Two were much more than just cosmetic issues. As a matter of fact Colt is why I now own 2 Les Baer 1911s and a Wilson Combat. I was so pissed after purchasing a Colt stainless Competition seriers 5" 1911 in 38 Super and sending it back to Colt twice without being repaired. I final gave up on Colt and had Wilson Combat put a new barrel and bushing in it, now its a respectable shooter. But while all this shit with Colts shit 38 Super was going on I purchased 2 Les Baers for myself, one in 45ACP and the other in 38 Super as well as another in 45 ACP for my son. In my mind nothing says "fuck you Colt" than purching a non Colt. Fuck you Colt.
Yeah I hear you man, unfortunately made in USA doesn't mean shit anymore. The last 5 guns I've bought have been from Canik,Tisas and they give you way more for your money in my opinion and on top of that the aftermarket support is getting better and better, so until these big american firearms companies step up their game I'm done giving them any of my money.
CANIK and other Turkesium manufactors ARE having major probs now. Shotguns are better made in China! (With the exception of Benelli-owned Stoeger). That is horrible.
This us why I always inspect the firearm before I purchase it. Even when I order one from Sportsman's warehouse, they ask me to inspect it before purchasing it. I guess if there was something not right, they could snag another one from the back.
I got a Colt M1991A1 . It's been a weird gun. It won't fire hollow points. I changed out the springs to Wilson combat. It fires hard cast rounds great 👍. But it's not as good as my Glocks, Walter , and CZ pistols. To be fair most American 1911 companies are just hit and miss now in my opinion. I just carry my Glocks now.
true story i recently purchased colt ccu in 45acp after 50 rounds the magwell was very loose and it wasn’t hard use and the sights were off, currently it’s back at the colt factory. i purchased colt delta elite had ftf issues sent it to colt which they fixed. fyi i love colts and have many colts but i agree with you colt 1911 qc had gone downhill big time lately. my colts from 2006 and 2008 have no issues.
Agreed. My last 2 out of 3 guns have had issues. On the low end I bought a Canik mc9 that was pure garbage, and towards the higher end a Lipsey's S&W 432 UC that had to go back due to several failures to fire. $800 and had to send it back and wait 6 weeks for the repair. Unacceptable for both brands.
This is exactly why I buy firearms that were made overseas. The reliability and quality are just way more consistent than anything made here. I'm talking about lower to mid tier stuff. I don't own any Gucci stuff, as I got over my SJS once I sold my Hummer H2. (small johnson syndrome) BTW, this is 100% sarcasm. I have little to no use for anything resembling a classic plain Jane 1911. LOLOLOL...BTW, if I spend a grand on a pistol, I expect perfection.
I’ve always bought Springfield Armory 1911s because I know they’re going to be good on QC and reliability. Tisas has been good to me but I only have one example to go off of. I really want a Colt but I’m afraid of what I’ll get when I pick it up. Thanks for putting the word out! Edit* I’ve never been picky about the finish from the factory because my pistols get used hard and the finish gets worn off anyways
I like your content. I am thinking if we complain, will it make a difference? If we don’t buy the flaws I suppose colt will cut more corners just to be competitive.
this what happens because companies like colt and kimber think name alone sell guns but not when you have quality control issues and do not man up its a problem people are going at you they will say colt has had problem for a long time why would you buy one but your right its frustrating
Great video I've bought several gun's recently mostly glock some used and they look as good as the new one i got a ruger redhawk 44mag 4.2 inch barrel looks great then I bought a new Smith and Wesson 460 magnum 5 inch barrel no blemishes and I'm not a big fan of s&w but they are putting out some good products
I bought a Colt competition 9mm 1911. It wouldn't feed and HST or hollow point. This was 2021. I reamed the feed ramp out w round knife sharping steel and it'd feed wadcutters. I bought a Colt series 70 government 45auto the same year. It wss flawless and every bit as accurate as the competition model after some trigger polishing.
I've had QC issues with every manufacturer of handguns going back to the 1970s - Colt, S&W, Ruger, Walther, etc. I bought one of the very first Glock 17 pistols to enter the country and it was defective. Rather than send it back, my gunsmith spotted the problem and fixed it in five minutes. With some companies it is merely luck of the draw. With others it appears to be a chronic QC issue. In my experience Taurus is the worst offender.
These are all valid points. I'm a Southpaw, so more often than not, I have to spend the extra $$ for ambi stuff, or just buy a slightly more expensive 1911 to get those features out of the box. I'm not complaining about that, but when the other stuff needs repaired/replaced/sent back, my extra expenses increase even further, when they shouldn't have to. 😑

I’m with you, we will get the quality that we accept, some manufacturers are great to work with, some not so much. I try and do one of two things. I’ll buy a gun unseen if the company has a good customer service reputation. Any other gun I won’t buy unless I can handle it 1st. This method only bit me in the ass when I bought a Fusion Riptode Commander 1911 in 45acp. Bob Serva himself bullshitted me through major extraction issues. I ended up getting my $788 back, full refund but I had to be a dick about it. My absolute favorite 1911 is my Tisas Yukon Commander in 10mm & I’ve owned most of the major brands over the years.
I'm a Colt guy, but if there's a blemish on the external finish and something's not right with the internals? That's not the Colt that I know. Call them up. Make them fix it. Colt is not Radical Firearms or PSA. I'm okay with small issues that can be ignored going budget, but Colt? No. If I buy new from Colt, I expect it to look and function like a Colt. If I mess it up from there, that's me. But a Colt 1911 should be without blemish from the factory.
Have you ever tried to call colt? I left a voice mail every day for 6 months and never heard back. They never fixed it under warranty. Colt and Springfield can go "F" themselves!

Colt WAS an iconic brand. If you think the new stuff is bad, you should have seen the crap they were putting out in the '80s. I owned 5 Colt 1911's. I bought a Les Baer Premere II and I started selling my Colts off. The only Colt I have left is a1959 National Match. Start buying vintage Colt Then you can still keep your hat..
Depends on what you are looking for as far as a modern 1911 or an older military style one. TISAS makes a lot of nice models. The Springfield Armory Garrison is pretty awesome.
As I've said here, my QC problems with Colt go back to the 1970's. All 1911 functionality problems; appearance-wise, they were fine. I'd hoped that CZ would bring some of that old world, Bohemian pride of craftsmanship to Colt, but sadly, nothing seems to be improving. It's not just Colt. Now I establish what sort of gun I want, and research which manufacturer has the fewest problems with his version in my price range. I have no brand loyalty anymore.
well colt Quality has been terrible for years, I haven't seen a colt in my local gunshop in a while I see plenty of springfield, magnum research, and tisas. I don't have a springfield but I do own 3 tisas and 1 magnum research 1911 all have been reliable and they are all tact drivers.
This is exactly what the 1911 and revolver communities need to hear. Way too many QC issues on $1K and $2K guns. The two companies I have never seen these kinds of issues with is Wilson Combat and Ed Brown. Both of those companies disclose and discount blemished products.
hi we have to stop buying from these companys only way to fight back.have you checked out iver johnson 1911s i have a eagle xl in 10mm very nice for the price mid 700 dollers
I agree with you 100% man. I am a Colt lover, but I got a few with crunchy triggers, safety switch play, and the aluminum frames all seem to have a lot of side to side play. A $1500 Wiley Clapp lightweight commander rattles when shaken. I honestly thought CZ would up Colt's game, but not so much. I have not had any finsh issues like you have.

Good choice. Can’t argue with that decision. 🤠
@@wyominggunproject thanks! it’s still sad to see the state of colt these days. I was really hoping that CZ buying them out would turn the company around. I guess that won’t be the case
Well stay tuned buddy because I have a video on that same gun in 38 Super and it has the same issues.
Yep. Got some Les Baers myself
Agreed. QC often happens out in the market . There are Colt 1903 models that still work and look good and they are over 100 years old.
Good point
Great video! Never lower your standards, it's all down hill from there.
I just subscribed because of very well put video!!!! Couldn’t agree with you more!!!!!
Thanks man🙏🏻
These are all valid points. 😑
hi from s.e. idaho i am sick of it to .bought a trp 10 mm in 2019 went back to the factory 3 times last time the said if it dont work try different ammo what you dont know it works. kimber same problems with there 1911s how much does it cost these companys to repair all these defects stupid management .bought a dan wesson 10 mm last year had the ejector pin missing called 3 times for a pin they did not care put one in my self.bought 2 pythons this year i 6in 1 4.25 the 4.25 had light primer strikes and excesive end shake had to send that back nobody cares about us just get it out the door.colt customer service sucks they are rude wont buy anymore of these good vid keep it up
I bought a Colt 1911. Never again.
Congratulations on breaking 10k subs, Brother!
Thanks man 🤠
I’m with you, we will get the quality that we accept, some manufacturers are great to work with, some not so much.
$1000 for a kel-tec quality firearm? Outrageous! Time to buy a lightly used Wilson Combat 1911 or a Les Baer 1911. Keep speaking truth.
I understand. And Colt Revolvers had same issues. I started buying older versions. Hope they listen now ! Cool video i agree
Spot on!!!! I agree with You 100%!
But a Colt 1911 should be without blemish from the factory.
or sell it under BLEM at a reduced cost and customer knows what they are getting beforehand
Have you ever tried to call colt? I left a voice mail every day for 6 months and never heard back. They never fixed it under warranty. Colt and Springfield can go "F" themselves!
@@BLACKWOLF-1911 Springfield customer service was good six years ago.
@@gnosticnight yeah, now they've got a bunch of 20 something's that act like they know more than you do.
New to firearms and you’ve taught me and my girlfriend a lot about the 2nd amendment, caring for our dollar, and budgeting. Thanks from a small town guy in crazy Chicago.
That great to hear. Glad I could help. Stay safe out there in Chiraq 🤠
@@gnosticnight Casper 😃
@@wyominggunproject I mistakenly replied to the wrong comment. Sorry about that. I was wondering what neighborhood the small town guy in Chicago is living in.
@@gnosticnight ah got it 😃
I sent the SW pistol back 3 times but they didn’t do anything to it but said they test fired it. A lie then I read they had hired people in a ghetto
Great video. Just found your channel not long ago and subbed. Looking for my first 1911. Not sure Colt is on the list. Any suggestions
Depends on what you are looking for as far as a modern 1911 or an older military style one. TISAS makes a lot of nice models. The Springfield Armory Garrison is pretty awesome.
I was looking at the Springfield Operator. They seem to be priced pretty well. So many choices out there. The Tisas look like they are good as well
As I've said here, my QC problems with Colt go back to the 1970's.
Yeah me either. I own many different types of firearms from many different manufacturers. The only exception is Glock. I have 6 of those lol.
You are absolutely correct.
I can't agree more. Another big fail is Lazy boy brand furniture, complete garbage these days. Love your channel, really love this video!
Thanks 🤠
100% agreed with you
well colt Quality has been terrible for years, I haven't seen a colt in my local gunshop in a while I see plenty of springfield, magnum research, and tisas.
I feel the exact way about Springfield armory. I love them honestly and have several , but they have QC issues !
Yep 👍🏻
@@wyominggunprojectI’ve actually had really good luck with ruger!
The 4.5 Springfield XDM Elite OSP is my favorite pistol
@@mini14king76 I have had pretty good luck with Ruger too
@@outlawgt3045 great hand gun !
Colt? Say no more...
CZ took a hands off approach with Colt.
If I'm paying Colt prices, I'm going to expect Colt quality.... If I'm not getting Colt quality, then why am I even bothering?
Congrats on 10k subs!
Thanks Man 🙏🏻
Colt is under ownership from over sea's now and I heard they might be trying to up the QC and they have to, for all the competition out there.
I REALLY want to buy a Colt Defender but I’m afraid to get a lemon 🍋
My Colt Defender is great. They got that one right. But I would be hesitant too. If possible try to buy from a shop so that you can put hands on it.
@@wyominggunproject I live in New Mexico a country mile from any town but on the seldom occasions I’ve visited a Gun Store they never have one in stock. Keep up the great videos my friend 🇺🇸👍
Totally agree.
Please be advised that gun manufacturing companies that are either compliant or certified to ISO 2015 standards have better process driven Quality Systems in place. Also, senior management of these companies are an integral part of insuring these Quality requirements are met. As a Quality Engineer of over 30 years, I have heard so many times when things go wrong, manufacturing will say to Quality, why didn't you save us from ourselves. Cheers...
Got an S&W Shield performance center and Shield 45 2.0 pistols. Theyve been stellar but my new 629 and 317 revolvers have neen garbage.
How was your kimber stainless II?
Review coming soon and I will let you be the judge 🤠
@wyominggunproject mine is doing good. Made 2 trips to the range recently and no jams in either session. I did have to fix my factory mag follower. It was binding in the magazine. It works great now along with my chip mccormick mag.
@@reevesc87 wait till you see the review I had an issue with the mag follower too🤣
Everything after the magnum carry is low qc
you're right man
I bought a tisas for cheap. Bought a bunch of wilson parts n had my gunsmith install em. Whens all said n done it was still cheaper than getting a colt.
True
@@wyominggunproject i still want a colt. Just seen so many mixed reviews. Hard to justify when theres so much good options out there in tjat colt price range
CZ didn't buy Colt. The conglomerate that owns CZ bought Colt...
Good Point
Glock will always been perfection and king.
My new T.R.P. was more than disappointing.
That sucks
Why?
@@teelowteelow356 I sent it back for failure to go into battery and failure to feed. They adjusted the extractor and polished the feed ramp. Went to the range, same issues. The inside of the slide wasn't cerakoted in the frt corners, the thumb saftey was sticking in the middle, the frt of the mag well was jagged and sharp and the rear site was loose. I'm done with Springfield, it's currently at nighthawk customs being totally gutted and rebuilt.
I owned Colt wheel guns, Only one was keeper but I sold for a good price. Most of there stuff is over rated over priced hype.
For a G it should be perfect.
Agree
Please make review again on ermox xfire hows it going and is it drop safe ? Hows compare to glock performance
Zastava QC is SHIT!!!!! Idc if your Zastava has been flawless. Mine and a lot of other people have been pointing out Zastavas junk. My m70 had a bore of .315 of you know anything about reloading and casting. 4 thousands over bore is NOT ACCEPTABLE they wouldn’t do anything about it because it was a private purchase. Yeah a brand new private purchase and that issue was totally a QC issue. I agree 110% with you and I can not understand or stand the ball lickers of big time gun manufacturers. Like seriously stop swinging from a the nuts of a company who doesn’t give a crap about YOU or anyone you know.
I like tacos 🌮
Tacos are the best 🤣
buy a series 70 and call it a day. You want custom buy a les baer ed brown etc. I would rather have high end guns and less of them then a ton of shit. To each his own
I take it you haven’t bought the new colt python yet. Had to send it back twice once for poor crown Second light strikes on primers. I don’t trust it so it’s a safe queen😂
No I got one. Already did a review on it too. My is great. 🤠
We budget buyers have been saying this forever...what exactly are you buying...? a 'quality' name, and still y'all get worked up about blemishes...are your firearms destined to be museum pieces, or used and abused at the range...? i can understand admiring the 'lines' of a classic firearm, but if i can't shoot it what is the point...? as for operational issues, that is every manufacturer, anything with moving parts can fail...it's your money, but I just don't get it...
Colt is just another cheap Turkish brand with obscene prices these days.
Who accepted the gun in this condition ?
It's a tool, not a work of art...
So are you.
Great tools can absolutely be works of art.
If that’s your argument then why are you paying that much for an obsolete tool in the first place
This is why I never buy new guns I always buy 20 to 30 year old 1s when the quality was always there just like cars.
