I was able to successfully update the firmware on my Mazda CX-5 GS here in Canada to the latest version I am aware of as of April 2023 to 74.00.324A. The firmware must be updated before you can install the physical Apple CarPlay / Android Auto module.

I upgraded directly from 59.00.502 to 74.00.324 using a new 16gb San Disk USB.
Make sure you guys have a strong battery.

Didn't work for my 2016 CX-6 from 59 to 70 nor 74. Both said Validation Failed. File checksum is ok.
Sorry to hear that, have you tried checking the format of the USB? Or if the USB has gone bad? I would also soft reset your infotainment system. @@mingkuisong3239
@@randomdude1053Actually it is USB issue, I tried a different USB, worked.
It turned out it was USB issue(even though it was fomated with FAT32). I tried a different USB (FAT32) worked!!

For people like myself, who thought that the infotainment would be different once upgraded, it’s exactly the same, i upgraded from 59. So unless you plan on getting Apple CarPlay, I don’t really see a reason to switch the software.

Bro it works like a charm. I updated my CX5 2019 from 59.0 to 74.0 as of Jan 2024. Just follow as per guild lines in the files given. And using a Kingston pen drive.

Update: It is recommended you remove the OEM Mazda Navigation SD Card from its slot in the centre console prior to updating the firmware / starting the vehicle. Some users have reported that it does not work with the SD Card left in, either during the firmware update process, or after with working with Mazda Navigation application.
Great video and instructions. Thank you. For those wondering if they can upgrade from 51.00.351 directly to 74.00.324, it worked perfectly for me. The installation phase took 25 minutes. To be on the safe side I connected a battery trickle charger.

hello, i need some help, last year, I updated my mazda cx5 os vers and fail safe to v70, do i need to update the fail safe too or i only just need to update my os vers, also thanks for the vid!
A few days ago I updated my 2017 Mazda 3 by installing the CP/AA physical module (Not a genuine Mazda accessory) for which the Chinese manufacturer recommended having firmware 70.00.21 or later installed, so I updated from the one I had installed from the factory, the firmware 59.00.441 NA N, up to 70.00.100 NA N and then 70.00.367A (these were the firmware that I had been able to get until then). Once the physical AA/CP module was installed I did some initial testing with an Iphone 12 Pro (can't test AA), but it only worked fine for a while, if I didn't exit CarPlay mode, or turn the car off otherwise. The touch screen did not slide correctly, and it was impossible to select any function, even with the joystick. I had to unplug the USB cable from the phone and turn the car off for a while to get it working properly again. The maps on their SD card were working fine and so was everything else. Then I thought updating to a later firmware might fix it (I couldn't find any information to confirm or deny it, but I had to try something). I searched for a recent firmware on various internet forums (which post almost no download links) until I found on UA-cam this video and the download link containing the latest firmware and the tool to verify its correct download. I did the update of my car again to the firmware NA 74.00.324A and now the PC works perfectly (I haven't tried it yet with AA), I can connect and disconnect the USB cable, exit CarPlay mode at any time and enter it again, turning the car on and off without problems, etc. The only thing that Mazda Connect stopped detecting is the navigation system next to the map SD card, indicating on the screen “Your Mazda is not equipped with a navigation system. There is a navigation system integrated as a Mazda Genuine Accessory. See official Mazda dealer.” Honestly, the main reason I had to change the physical CP/AA module was that the navigation system that Mazda integrates into its vehicles seems to me personally unfriendly and not very functional (compared to Google Maps and Waze), so it doesn't mean big problem for me. Thank´s for this great contribution that has freed me from a great mess. Greetings from Mexico my friend.

Before upgrading the firmware, you should remove the SD card and insert it after the upgrade is complete, otherwise GPS or navigation will not work properly.) I saw this on the Amazon site for the CarPlay hardware. Could this be why it doesn’t register?

Hello! Thank you for the awesome content. I got to the point where I am verifyind the cmu file with the checksum utility, but the MD5 and SHA-1 are different than the ones mentioned in the document. Is this okay ? Is the document just outdated ?
Thats odd, which version are you using? I made the document over a year ago but it should be the same MD5 checksum hash, please let me know if you resolved it, check the version?

Sorry I missed this, I was able to go from 59 to 74 if I recall correctly, but please check the file notes!!! And my parts were genuine Mazda OEM from my local Mazda dealer, so I am not sure in that regard sorry!

I have 59.0 I’ve read on post you don’t need to do 70 and then 74. Have you heard of any cases that going 59 to 74 directly with no issues by now?
I unfortunately am not sure. I went from 59 to 79 to 74.

Hi,
I installed a Mazda factory retrofit for car play and android auto.
For car play it will disconnect randomly and you need to unplug and plug in the phone again.
For android auto the disconnects happen but not as often and the phone auto connects.
Any ideas on what I can try?
Firmware is up to date.
Used oem cord.
Is there a way to test the hub?
I have unfortunately had the same issue, for me it seems that over time, any USB C / Micro USD to USB A cable you use will become damaged given the vehicle is always moving and rattling, trying a new high quality nylon braided strong cable helped me. Please try that!
my usb drive won't show up on the Parallels Windows VM? It shows up on Mac and on other Windows computers.
On the Parallels Software for macOS, select the option to insert the USB device to the guest Windows virtual machine instead of the host macOS. Also make sure the Parallels drivers software is installed on the guest Windows virtual machine. Check on the insert USB devices option in the menu bar.

Im really sorry my Ozzie friend but I only have North America, if you check online on the Mazda forms you may be able to find the AUS version of the firmware.

I have an after market carplay which I installed with the FW 70. Do you think that I can install now a FW74 without compromising already connected carplay? Any suggestion is very welcome. Reason for the updated is the infortainment system restarts 2-3 times every time I start the car. This has been the care already before the carplay installation. The dealer suggested a FW update to see it that would fix it.
To be honest with you I am not sure sorry, you could try it but I am not sure, especially since it is an aftermarket unit. Cheers

I Successfully updated my Mazda 2 2019 from 59.00.559 but now radio signal seems off, I can't tune a radio station with it's exact frequency. Any Idea on that?
I am sorry to hear you are having issues, that is rather odd because I have not heard of that one. You can google Mazda radio issues it has been an issue before, I would recommend you try reseting the system, or reflash the firmware.
Worked! I used 888's tutorial and the 74 firmware provided in the comment's link. Updated from 59.00.441 to cmu150_NA_74.00.324A_update using the links provided in Random Dude's tutorial. Effing eh!

I am sorry I use Apple CarPlay not Android, but the touchscreen works with Apple CarPlay aside from the infamous Mazda ghost touch glitch

It's definitely up to you! Mines was working fine on both, that being said I still have the issue of ghost touching.

And did you follow the instructions on the other video on how to correctly flash the firmware onto the car strictly? (e.g. ensure care ACC mode stays on etc.). You can try to flash it again, however I am unsure of a fix.

It is mostly minor UI changes, and the interface is slightly faster. The bigger upgrade is v59 to v74, because this allows for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration to be used.

Can you explain to me what you mean by it reboots sometimes? I would recommend a factory reset, and reinstall the firmware if need be,
I had the same issue with version 57.something. The issue was the Navigation memory card. Once plugged in, the infotainment system kept on rebooting. I removed it and the problem was solved.

Check your firmware version on the Mazda infotainment system itself, and if you purchased it in North America then it it likely North American.
You North Americans think rest of the world is not exist :)
