I just got an A on my first o-chem test 🙌 I just know that it's gonna get a lot worse, so I'm not out of the woods yet, but still super happy that I did well on at least one exam so far 😂
I have gone 1, I have used these steps so far, I hope it helps me to get an A finally: 1-I study more than 20 hours per week 2-I have not attended to my office hours, but I have to use them as soon as possible 3-I usually do all of the practice problems in every chapter 4-instead of the dry-erase whiteboard, I use my tablet 5-I bought the model kit because it was mandatory in our syllabus 6-I use internet sources like Chad's videos, khan academy, and anything helpful on youtube
Another thing is know what triggers the reaction, knowing what is a strong nucleophile, strong electrophile, acid, base, anything like that you can figure out what the steps of the reaction are.
Got a B in Orgo 1, hoping for an A in orgo 2. It’s so much to memorize. Edit: Done with orgo 2, and I oddly found it way easier than 1. Aced it with an A : ) Your tips were very helpful. Memorizing the reactions and reviewing the mechanisms close to the test date was key.
I'm taking organic chemistry 1 this sem (a bit nervous as biology is normally my strong suit) and will definitely keep your tips in mind! thank you for the helpful encouragement and advice 🧑🔬
I may not be taking organic chem but I definitely just watched this video to learn some new study tips! I may be going into my last year of college but I am always eager to learn new ways to improve myself and my study habits! I love the sticky note idea!!
Got a 96% in Orgo 1, what tips do you have for orgo 2? I have heard it gets worse with the amount of brute memorization for reagents and stuff. The professor didn't let us use reaction maps at all btw.
2:23 If you want to get these schemes right, be sure to remind what changes between, for istance here, the halohydrin formation and hydroboration-oxydation since the molecule in this case doesn't show it; first reaction follows the Markovnikov rule and second one follows the Anti-Markovnikov one, meaning the result in a synthesis of a linear molecule will be different. My 2 cents since I'm losing my mind to organic chemistry 1 for months right now oof
well effort......... but these tips demand persistance. majority follow these instruction for a couples of days then let by gone be by gone ........ thank you mam ... may you live long
Also work pertinent problems immediately after the lecture that will fix concepts in your mind. Things that will come easily immediately after lecture will become vague after a matter of hours. Never schedule anything immediately after the lecture with the exception of pushing electrons and so forth. May you succeed in all you desire!
I'm in my second year of college, chemistry major, yet idk I'm struggling soooo much in my organic2 course this year specifically more than other courses! I'm starting my final exams in two weeks and the organic exam is the last one but I need to hurry up and study it rn now, I Had an A last year and I'd always loved studying organic it was my pleasure but this year idk what's happened to me, my two professors are good but I can't memories all these equations and mechanisms they're just WAYY TOO MUCH!! :""' I'm scared and crying like everyday, I don't want to have bad memories on the most loved subject to me by failing its course, but I can't handle it good and I need to have high GPA for my next year major T_T" (we've majors for second year and other majors on third year based on your grades)
I got a B+ in orgo 1. It was on zoom and I get hella districted when classes where online. My professor also has a thick Chinese accent. I could understand him it just took more effort witch meant I had to pay attention and study more. I really liked him as a professor and as a person so I decided to take him for orgo 2. I go to a small school and he’s the only one that teaches it. But he does have a heavy accent and we are required to wear a mask because it’s all in person. I can’t understand him at all anymore it’s a combo of the mask and the fact his back is turned because you know it’s chemistry and they use chalk.
They're exam sounds easy and conceptual. My professot exam is super above and beyong. I get two minutes per questions and the questions has a big ass structure with multiple part in it. Failed so bad
any advice for taking the course along with 4 other courses? the profs are zooming through the textbook and i've a lot of assignments from other classes :/
Honestly same! I think the best thing for that is time management figure out the fundamentals of the reactions in ochem. What drives the reaction and what is super reactive. After that its more about figuring it out and recognizing the pattern of the reaction.
Thank you. I hope to God its not as difficult as gen chem 2. It makes gen chem 1 look like child's play. I made a high B in it but it was a dreadful class.
I haven’t taken gen chem in 2 years, and I know I don’t remember any of it:((((I’m super scared that I will not be able to do as well as I’d like. How much gen chem is in organic ? What should I do to refresh my memory before I take orgo1 in October?
there was hardly any gen chem in it!! there is a tiny review at the beginning (at least at my university) about s and p orbitals but that’s it! and of course remembering what valence electrons are!
I feel like I’m too deep in o chem 1 to do well. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing anymore with SN1, Sn2, E2 and E1 reactions. I did well on the first exam then it’s going down hill Update: I ended up getting a 90% on that exam and got an 85% last night of an exam
@@amiracorine I took the time to go back and review concepts I was confused about. I also did a lot of practice problems and when I got them wrong, I went back and relearned that section
The tip to top all tips is to find an easy professor. One you become a doctor, all this information is worthless and never used. Ask an honest MD. I did.
Can you give me advice on which book should I get for OChem 1 class "as a chemistry student"? My teacher said to get Vollhardt's book. But I think there are better books. Please!... I'm so confused.
This question is very dependent on your professor and school. My Ochem 1 class is using Wade, Jr., L. G and J. W. Simek. Organic Chemistry, Ninth Edition, Pearson Prentice Hall, Inc., 2017 Which also has a solutions manual that is extremely helpful. But our professor said that this textbook by wade is a more complex “ish” textbook for more of a chemist then student. So he gave us a PDF of a more condensed book called Organic chemistry 3rd edition by David Klein. Personally if I was you, I would use the textbook on your syllabus or what book ur professor says/recommends bc it is likely to directly follow ur professors PowerPoints, notes, and exams
