- Universal Studios Hollywood has refurbished the classic Jurassic Park: The Ride, turning it into Jurassic World: The Ride. The new attraction brings a new modern color scheme to match up with the current franchise and adds a few characters from the hit movie, including Chris Pratt's Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard's Clare Dearing, BD Wong's Henry Wu, the Mosasaurus, and the Indominus rex. Universal has still yet to announce a grand opening for the attraction but the raft ride began "technical rehearsals" on Thursday, allowing the first park guests to experience it. We were lucky to be at the park on Friday afternoon, and we recorded a vlog about our experience on the new Jurassic World: The Ride.
Most of you probably know, Jurassic Park: The Ride was created for Universal Studios Hollywood in June 1996. On the 25th anniversary celebration of the movie, it was announced that the ride would be closed down and rethemed and updated to match the successful 2015 film Jurassic World. The ride keeps some of the dinosaur encounters from the original attraction, including Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Velociraptor, and Dilophosaurus. New to the attraction is an opening sequence that takes place indoors, putting the raft ride in the center of a tunnel that goes through Mosasaurus lagoon aquarium observatory. And the finale has been reworked to put us in the center of a battle between the Tyrannosaurus rex and the Indominus rex before the riders' raft plunges down an 84-foot waterfall.
The aquarium observatory section responds to real-world weather, which means if it's raining outside, it will appear also to be raining in the tank. Theme park rides have done this before with day and night, but I think it may be a first to emulate the outside weather. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and B.D. Wong reprise their respective characters (Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, and Henry Wu) in the 20-30 minute video loop in the queue line. Howard and Pratt both appear on screens inside the ride itself.
I've always been a huge fan of Jurassic Park: The Ride and was nervous that the Jurassic World make-over would mean the elimination of the animatronic dinosaurs in favor of screens. They did do some of that, replacing the inial Brontosaurus with the screen-based adventure into the Mosasaurus aquarium. I was shocked that I enjoyed the Mosasaurus sequence more than the actual huge animatronic dino. It might be that the long-necked dinosaur was worse for wear out in the sun all these years and never really looked great in the first place. But the screens that emulate the Mosasaurus aquarium look fantastic, and I loved how they used it to make this ride an ever more wet experience.
When we rode the attraction the water cannons on the last freefall drop were not yet working, and I heard from a castmember that they are hoping to have that up and running before the official grand opening. Universal has yet to announce a date for that, so your guess is as good as mine at this point. Be warned, by the time we got off the ride they had stopped the technical rehearsals and were only allowing castmembers and some VIP Tour guests to experience the ride, so don't go to the park expecting it will be open and running.

They should have left predator cove exactly the way it was... it was great! And bring back the live electricity on the broken cage and dropping car! The original Jurassic Park ride was one of my favorite rides. So glad I got to ride it a bunch as a kid when everything was working

Thanks for the review. It feels a bit ham-fisted the way they have squeezed the new scenes in, and it looks pretty soulless compared to the previous ride. It's a perfect metaphor for the film I guess. The gates opening with the 'welcome... to Jurassic Park' bit always gave me goosebumps, and now it just seems to be bit of a mess with everything sorta squeezed in.
Really enjoyed the start of the video with the music in the background, new to the channel but have been really enjoying it.

I hope they add more animatronics and bring back the Brontosaurus. The part starting from the broken Indominus Rex cage up to the chain hill lift looks underwhelming and feels like wasted space. It's just a bunch of TV screens and billboards which could've been used for more dinosaurs. Though I really love the more sophisticated animatronics indoors.
Sadly I think the brontosaurus as much as I loved it was always worse for wear being exposed to the elements outdoors. That’s what I like about the new animatronics indoors. I’m sure they will remain looking cool for years to come.
I went on the original Jurassic park ride and really sad that I’ll never get to relive that experience

⭕ The animatronics seem a little dated. I was hoping Universal would try to one-up Disneyland's latest offerings.
The animatronics at the end of the ride are amazing. It’s hard to capture them on video in the dark though.
Not a bad ride but they needed to start fresh, they re-used too much old stuff. The old animatronics really make it look a little fake. The Mosasaurus sequence looks great, that is some nice high res there. You almost forget that you are looking at screens. For the rest of the ride, it needs to be bigger, has some more suspense and rex and the indominus should fight, maybe even have a bit where the Mosasaurus pops up and grabs the Indominus.
As much as I prefer the original ride I’ve gotta give them credit for the water enclosure, holy cow that looks so real! What’s water and what’s a screen? Is it all screen? It looks so realistic
It all feels so boxed in with lots of walls. The original ride felt more grand with more openness. Maybe it's just because it's a video, but it seems as if there's less to see, and not as many small details to catch as you ride; like they're trying to direct you to look here, then look there - whereas the old ride had all this stuff going on around you simultaneously, and you would miss some stuff because you were looking at other things as you rode. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I think there were more animatronics around you all the time on the original.
EDIT: I'm glad they kept the John Williams classic score for when you see the dino animatronics (rather than the screen), but when it hits the main peak, it seems as if there's nothing to look at to awe the riders. Like, right at 7:21, what am I supposed to be looking at to justify that crescendo?

First, I think you two are just great. I have been watching from the beginning, and your videos are always so much fun. I was inspired to make Oga's Obsession after watching one of "Kitra's Quarantine Kitchen" episodes. It turned out great by the way. I have a question which is not related to your adventure, though. Peter, you said in a previous Q&A video that you got your glasses at Zenni (at least for the green ones). I looked on their site but could not find the blue ones that you have. I have been looking in stores and online for months but cannot find either the style or the color. If you have any suggestions, I greatly appreciate it, but if not that is perfectly fine. Please keep making these great videos! 😃

Why are there no warning alarms when the glass in the aquarium cracks, you would think there would be a structural integrity alarm somewhere.....

The entrance into predator cove has nothing happening. There's blood, too much blood that's way too bright, and a dead pteranodon. Maybe have the pteranodon dying so there can be some movement?

I believe so, but with the rumored coaster coming to Islands of Adventure, they might bring the overlay after that. Or a new experience with the new park 😁

I honestly feel like the screen simulator in the beginning is a great touch but not for the ride. It would be epic if they had that feature while waiting in line...I hope they do another update because I felt like this was too rushed.

Yeah it’s an update.
I heard this was just a reskinning of the old ride ?? or is this completely new. I went back in Dec 2018 and there were no lines at all, went 3 times in a row. This is a neat ride but nothing will ever top Congo River Rapids at Bush Gardens. It is a real non track boat river ride.
Yeah it’s a resin but it has some drastic changes like the mosasaurus section.
You gotta go see at night again so the moza will be match the time of day. Wish they kept the originals song.

So I’ve never rode the old ride so can’t make a comparison but this ride just doesn’t do it for me. If it was a short line, I’d ride it but I’m passing on it if it’s a long line. It’s not my kind of ride. Thanks for the video and the info!!

It was a technical rehearsal so the ride may not be functioning how it should yet. When it ACTUALLY opens, it will be fixed.

Should i get an annual pass even though have of the year has passed or shoud i wait till right after December to get it? I just want to wait for the right time to buy the pass and not waste my money.
I’m pretty sure the pass goes a year from the date you buy it, so if you buy in July you have it until July 2020

I totally understand why you guys wait in line for this stuff, like you're doing youtube videos and such, letting people see what is new, so it makes sense, But I can't wrap my head around why a normal family would sit around for 4 hours to ride one ride lmao Idk I hate lines!
because its not 4 hours? Rides only get que times that long when they are brand new, most sit around an hour to an hour thirty. Hell in Universal Orlando I go every week cause I go to college here and the rides rarely get over an hour (except for the HP stuff)

What a disappointment, they had a chance to create a bad ass ride with new dinosaurs and really vamp it up and it sucked, same of the old thing. Hey universal! You had one job to do and you blew it again, that's why you'll always be second to disney.
