hiya! thanks for making this video!
how has the accomodation been so far? Google reviews said that OPS has a bunch of heating issues etc. I'm asking because I will be studying at UCL this year and was looking at accomodation options. Would you recommend uni accomodation over outside ones?

Hiya! Overall the accommodation is amazing. It’s just for the first few months the ops haven’t done all facilities testing and letting students moved in causing issues like heating, shower, and even lights. But if you going to move in this year, I think all that problems might had already solved (I think?). And higher floor will have more issues on heating as Ucl said that Ops is a sustainable building so sometimes the heat can’t get to the higher floor due to some reasons.
For your accommodation options, it depends on where your lecture take places, if urs at Ucl east then ops will be the best option u can get as u can save up all the transportation fees for the commute. And if this is your first year coming to uk, all students will be guaranteed to stay at one of the school accommodation and u can choose not to, it’s up to you. In shorts, pros of staying in accommodation is overall it’s definitely way cheaper compare to the outsides and more secure I would say? And you will also get a great opportunity to make new friends with ur flatmates. The cons of that is that if u planning to stay at uk after graduate then u better look for a rent during term 2 or term 3 and move out in advance before your studentship expired.(Although you won’t able to get the rent back if you move out earlier) Or it’s better to live outside to sign a contract for minimum two years so that after graduate u won’t need to worry abt housing if you plan to stay at uk. Cause after you graduate if you haven received any job offer they won’t let you rent the room. That will be a big issue if u planning to stay in uk. Take some time to consider this my friend. If you have more problems feel free to ask me!

Thank you so so much for your detailed reply! I really appreciate it. It really does help a lot. Most of my classes will be at the East campus only so I think OPS would be the best bet. I just had one other question - I am coming as a postgrad international student and from what I understand, there’s no guarantee as such for accommodation for PGs. I wanted to ask if it is easy securing the kind of accommodation you want via the UCL accom. portal if you apply as soon as it opens? I’m looking to get a room like yours, an en-suite. Pls let me know, thank you so much!!

I don’t know if the accommodation policy has change recently but usually no matter if ur a undergrad or postgrad international student first year arrive at uk, the uni will provide u with an accommodation. But still it’s better to apply as soon as possible. I forgot at which form or what email, they will let you choose if u wish to stay at school accommodation or living outside, if yes u will needa make a list top 5 accommodation u wish to stay during ur term. If u not sure u can drop an email to ucl accommodation or @uclask. Hope these helps.

    Hey! Thanks for this video!
I have been allocated to the 18th floor, which is the top one I believe. I am a bit concerned about the heating issues many people are mentioning in the comments. What can you tell me about that?
On top of that, I'm also confused since I don't get if it works more like an hotel (everyone minds their own business and stay confided in the room) and / or if the social life is effectively active in there.

Heya! If your room is at the top floor then might be having some issues with heatings. But I had already moved out so I’m not sure if the problems still there or they already fixed it. U can drop the accommodation team an email for any updates or further details.
The lifestyle there rly depends on how u and ur flatmates whether prefer more private space or more socialising. The accommodation host many social activities at the ground floor. Every month have different topics. If u want to have more interaction with people u can go to the events or even to the main campus, they got even more at there.
Overall, don’t worry too much, just enjoy ur time there, and if anything happens, report the office or drop them an email etc.
