  • With all the contenders analysed and the competition entries checked, we're now able to announce the results of the Football Aid 2011 - Goal of the Season competition. The winning goals, with expert judge Pat Nevin's comments in brackets, are listed below -
    5th: Goal S -- Sheffield Wednesday - Tom Parsons
Brilliant chip by Tom, great vision and clearly meant.
    4th: Goal U -- Tottenham Hotspur (G2) - Mark Sweetlove
Once again good awareness and particularly good balance on the dribble, before a very good finish as well by Mark.
    3rd: Goal T -- Stoke City - Dave Taylor
Top quality 'nutmeg' from Dave which looked entirely planned and then he had the vision to see the right thing to do by curling it into the top far corner. He had the skill to do it and when Ashley Young does exactly the same thing for Man Utd (which he has already done twice this season) everyone is crowing over it. Pro standard!
    2nd: Goal M -- Liverpool (G1) - Stephen Callister
This could have been scored by Steven Gerrard. A direct burst through with good pace but then the confidence and awareness to slow down before despatching it into the net. In fact I think we should check it wasn't Gerrard in disguise as Stephen in the Liverpool kit at Anfield looked so much like him!
Winner: Goal E -- Blackburn Rovers - James Gilmour
It may not look the best goal and certainly other goals that didn't even reach the top five were struck from further out, but the technique involved here makes me wonder if this was an ex pro of a very decent standard indeed. Totally deliberate from start to finish, from the control to the strike. The ability to cut across the ball with the volley was of a quality any player at any level would be rightly proud of. Even the celebration was a touch of class; the calmness seemed to suggest, 'Yeah, I do this sort of thing all the time.' James Gilmour is the worthy winner in the best Football Aid competition yet.
Football Aid would like to send our congratulations to our winner James Gilmour, with his effortless volley edging out a number of excellent contenders this season. James wins himself a special Goal of the Season trophy and we hope to present this to him soon to commemorate his outstanding achievement.
The lucky winner of our prediction competition was Liverpool fan Josh Harvey, who's won himself a position in our match at Anfield in 2012.
Finally we'd like to say a massive thank you to everybody who entered the competition and send our congratulations again to all of our tremendous finalists for providing us with the highest quality and hardest to predict Goal of the Season competition we've ever had!

It's like Christmas come early!!! Cracking selection of corkers, screamers, headers, volleys, lobs, belters and some very tasty moments...could be a close call.
