@@yj6118 I was miserable in a suburb near Atlanta...great public schools but homogenous and my school was heavily influenced by the local evangelical Baptist church ... to the point the Episcopal English teacher was treated like a freak of nature/heretic. My biology teacher apologized for teaching evolution. Even at UGA, which I enjoyed as an educational institution, my one black professor’s classes were assigned the English major’s multicultural designation because... he was black? In his own words, he had no idea why... it was depressing and terribly segregated. I left as soon as humanly possible. But land certainly is cheap and I have a friend who is a POC & really enjoyed a more luxe area closer to Atlanta. To each his own.
It's really inspiring to see you because media always shows us how happy people are together but it doesn't show us how happy people like myself can be alone.

I moved for *a high quality of life.* It's just a plus that I'm around honest, upfront people. Did I break my lease?* I transferred to a different apartment building free of charge just with a new deposit. Think of my old luxury Boston building as a fancy Russian all-glass McDonald's. I moved to another McDonald's with similar interior, but different exterior. Same chicken nuggets, with cheaper rent. When I finish this lease I'm buying a house in the woods STAT. I have to get used to lizards because I'm not interested in city life or being connected all the time anymore. I'm doing all the home-buying research now. I'm hoping to find my Jethro because I'd love help building a cabin from scratch tbh.

Yeah , out here it seems tho there arent as many dead dogs feom when i first moved to texas. Sad for them though. Omg , but i was outside my house and saw a jackel and ot was holding a dead cat in its mouth walking down the street in front of my house. 😂😂😂 I thought it was a dog but it wasn't . My husband was like that's a jackal and i was like, What is that ? Man i ain't never been so creeped.

There’s something particularly beautiful, somewhat elite and cute about the Northeast, but I ultimately decided that “cute” is not going to cut it for me as a human being anymore. Out here there’s just a bunch of strip malls and lots of highway, but I feel like I can actually mold my own lifestyle. Also since it’s not freezing cold I can actually do activities to stay sane right now. I’ve been doing all sorts of water sports lol.

As an Australian I was having a mighty chuckle about the your lizard story. You have conquered the world but you afraid of lizards girl. Truly a balanced Queen.
Oh and tips on getting the stray: leave food but don't capture it the first time, give a few days so the cat knows this is where it will get its food. While the cat is eating, leave your door open and see if it will come inside. Most likely it will not stay long, maybe 10mins or so and then it would want to leave, let it leave. After a day or two with the cat inside for short visits, bring the food inside and see if it will eat inside the apartment. If cat eats in the apartment, and it's stays lengthen to 45mins+, then it is time to capture it. Make sure you have stuff for it first, like food, litter box, food bowls, basic toys but not too much at first, and a kennel or travel bag. The kennel will be for when you take it to the vet which will need to happen very soon after the cat is captured
I never liked cats either. Then for some odd miracle I got one. I was terrified and kept the kitten in the box for an hour until I was brave. Opened the box and it has been the love of my life. I still don’t like cats but I love mine. She is like a living teddy bear and my spirit animal all in one. I’ve never regretted it!
I'm starting to realize the South gets a bad deal 😂 I'm from New Orleans and I didn't realize how exceptionally nice people were there until I traveled/lived in other places.
Please don’t give up on the homestead dream. Once you have your own land and animals you gotta take care of and a cute little farm house I don’t think you’ll need much more! I feel through the screen that you’re happier in the South than in Boston and it’s amazing to see and I hope you can make your ideal life come true ❤️
Regarding strays: the best thing you can do, if you plan on homing one, is to take it to the vet for a checkup once you trap it. You can get cat traps and carriers online (I use Chewy, and my cats LOVE their comfy fabric carrier). The vet will be able to scan it to see if it’s chipped or not and also whether it’s been neutered/spayed. I’d strongly discourage letting an un-neutered Tom into your apartment... they’re usually super friendly and social but will also piss everywhere. But strays and rescues are great. They usually display gratitude and affection to their humans. Get the Temptations treats. Cats go NUTS for them!
I hear ya! Moved from LA to Palm Springs and now in a small village in Germany. Literally the best decision of my life. I wake up to peace every morning and if I feel like getting out, I go into Munich for a day and that's enough to last me for a month LOL. Nothing beats the peaceful living in a small town. We are currently setting up our studio in this village for our clothing line as well. So fun!
The thing about cats is when you need one, one will come. Maybe this is your cat destiny...but only if you're ready to stay put. Otherwise take poor cat to shelter so it will be cared for this cold winter. Maybe you should think about going totally minimalist (stop buying furniture, etc) and go from town to town, country to country? Girl, you're young! LIVE IT to THE FULLEST! TRAVEL!!!

I did the farm thing to get a grip too! I'm currently now in school for horticulture and sustainable agriculture and work on my school's farm as well as volunteer at farms around the city, and it's the best feeling!
Good tip for lizards from a Floridian: They can not run and breathe at the same time. If a lizard gets in, it will be insanely easy to catch if you slide it into the box when it's taking a breathing break. They don't have much stamina either due to this so they stop often (: (I'm not a scientist, this is just something i've picked up from living where I do and interacting with lizards daily.) You can also easily pick them up like that man did and put them outside or somewhere else. When you're trying to get them to move, sometimes they may be taking a breather, so just wait a little while then get a little closer to them and they'll run :D!! You get use to your tiny little neighbors, trust me

You are supposed to use "cat traps" to get strays. You put a can of food in the trap & when a cat goes in, the open door closes. Also if you get them. Take them to a vet later. Because some cats have microchips. & vets can check if they have an owner.
yesssss. I am the mama to a stray cat. They are the best, i live somewhere warm (not in the states so there isn't animal control) and i love that I get the cuddles, can feed and provide for him but I dont feel too responsible or trap him in a house, though I have a door he can enter my yard.. I havent left for years but if i ever do my neighbors also feed him. I will never own a pet but when strays come and give me love, you do feel chosen! I also had the goal of living off my land and im almost there, i really never measure my wealth anymore because its all i need, i still want to learn and grow as a person but i no longer care how much i make. much love Miss Stamps

Try luring it with wet food. Feed it a few times and get it to trust you. You can also bring a cat carrier with you. Since it was friendly initially, it might just walk in to the carrier. Put some food inside the carrier

I live 5 miles from my favorite grocery store & it takes me 30 mins to get there because there are NO direct roads! I moved from London to rural Spain and I am just getting ready to go to the local seed shop and pick what I'll grow on my huge land which did cost as much as ONE YEAR of renting a room in London and I have it for LIFE. With the internet, I can totally see why more and more people go for it. After a year of sitting at home in lockdown, I'd much rather sit in a home that also has a massive garden to keep me busy. just carry a baggy of dry cat food in your purse and feed it to them (or the one that likes you) and if your building set up allows it then yea, i would leave some wet food near your door. if the stray is pretty friendly and you manage to take it inside , you can take to local vet or shelter to get it scanned for a microchip ! ( to ease your worries of the cat belonging to someone)
I have been looking into volunteering at farms too. Learning agriculture is of growing interest these days for good reason. We need to get back to nature.

Regarding strays: the best thing you can do, if you plan on homing one, is to take it to the vet for a checkup once you trap it. You can get cat traps and carriers online (I use Chewy, and my cats LOVE their comfy fabric carrier). The vet will be able to scan it to see if it’s chipped or not and also whether it’s been neutered/spayed. I’d strongly discourage letting an un-neutered Tom into your apartment... they’re usually super friendly and social but will also piss everywhere. But strays and rescues are great. They usually display gratitude and affection to their humans. Get the Temptations treats. Cats go NUTS for them!

I hear ya! Moved from LA to Palm Springs and now in a small village in Germany. Literally the best decision of my life. I wake up to peace every morning and if I feel like getting out, I go into Munich for a day and that's enough to last me for a month LOL. Nothing beats the peaceful living in a small town. We are currently setting up our studio in this village for our clothing line as well. So fun!

The thing about cats is when you need one, one will come. Maybe this is your cat destiny...but only if you're ready to stay put. Otherwise take poor cat to shelter so it will be cared for this cold winter. I did the farm thing to get a grip too! I'm currently now in school for horticulture and sustainable agriculture and work on my school's farm as well as volunteer at farms around the city, and it's the best feeling!

Good tip for lizards from a Floridian: They can not run and breathe at the same time. If a lizard gets in, it will be insanely easy to catch if you slide it into the box when it's taking a breathing break. They don't have much stamina either due to this so they stop often (: (I'm not a scientist, this is just something i've picked up from living where I do and interacting with lizards daily.) You can also easily pick them up like that man did and put them outside or somewhere else. When you're trying to get them to move, sometimes they may be taking a breather, so just wait a little while then get a little closer to them and they'll run :D!! You get use to your tiny little neighbors, trust me

You are supposed to use "cat traps" to get strays.
You put a can of food in the trap & when a cat goes in, the open door closes.
Also if you get them. Take them to a vet later. Because some cats have microchips. & vets can check if they have an owner.
yesssss. I am the mama to a stray cat. They are the best, i live somewhere warm (not in the states so there isn't animal control) and i love that I get the cuddles, can feed and provide for him but I dont feel too responsible or trap him in a house, though I have a door he can enter my yard.. I havent left for years but if i ever do my neighbors also feed him. I will never own a pet but when strays come and give me love, you do feel chosen! I also had the goal of living off my land and im almost there, i really never measure my wealth anymore because its all i need, i still want to learn and grow as a person but i no longer care how much i make. much love Miss Stamps

Try luring it with wet food. Feed it a few times and get it to trust you. You can also bring a cat carrier with you. Since it was friendly initially, it might just walk in to the carrier. Put some food inside the carrier

I moved from Ca to Texas. Gov Abbott here is a psycho, there are no leaders and the infrastructure sucks. I live 5 miles from my favorite grocery store & it takes me 30 mins to get there because there are NO direct roads! I moved from London to rural Spain and I am just getting ready to go to the local seed shop and pick what I'll grow on my huge land which did cost as much as ONE YEAR of renting a room in London and I have it for LIFE.
With the internet, I can totally see why more and more people go for it.
After a year of sitting at home in lockdown, I'd much rather sit in a home that also has a massive garden to keep me busy.

just carry a baggy of dry cat food in your purse and feed it to them (or the one that likes you) and if your building set up allows it then yea, i would leave some wet food near your door. if the stray is pretty friendly and you manage to take it inside , you can take to local vet or shelter to get it scanned for a microchip ! ( to ease your worries of the cat belonging to someone)
I have been looking into volunteering at farms too. Learning agriculture is of growing interest these days for good reason. We need to get back to nature.
