This story shows how TV and the film industry was instructive in the moral decline in the sixties, that a teacher who was genuinely concerned for a pupil she was fond of, and wanting to warn her she was heading down a wrong path, ends up being punished and humiliated. A “let’s stone an old lady and feel righteous about it” ending.
Moral decline of the sixties? I came of age in the sixties....more women became pregnant outside of marriage in the fifties......Millions were killed in the forties because of fascism.....In the thirties lust for wealth was everywhere.....in the roaring twenties bootleg whiskey was everywhere resulting in untold rise in crimes........In every generation there are always good people who do good but suffer wrongly. Right thinking people like you.
@@christenasmalls6118 She’s right. I’m GenX. The 60s moral decline began the decay that we are in now. The 60s and the feminist movement destroyed our society, ripped apart families and was the final nail in our coffin. Now, suicide is one of the top killers of women. Thanks feminists.
@@christenasmalls6118 and your point that you came of age in what many of us feels like a declining Era means what exactly? Media plays a huge role in society. You are right that there can be some sort of decline marked on all periods since the Garden of Eden but you are wrong in acting like some periods haven't been worse than others.
The school teacher should never had included the neighbor in her research. I understand how she wanted to make sure the student was not being taken advantage of. The school teacher did not know the character of the neighbor.
well, not quite: it rather shows that a goodhearted woman with moral standards tries to prevent a young student getting absorbed with stuff that could harm her... in the end, the well meaning teacher is the enemy...though she isn't!
Horrifying, how sometimes things may turn against you in a blink of an eye and you stand weak in every which way you try to proove your innocence. Can't say had an experience similar to that but.. close.
Sounds like a good teacher got railroaded. You can just feel the innocence , efficiency , integrity of the era in these old shows. Today the kids would be making out in the halls , trash would be everywhere . The woman would’ve called the cops on the nosy neighbor for being a pervert and the teacher would be stocking the girl for an affair not to stop one.

That disgusting man! He got poor Laura punished for something she wasn't even THINKING of doing to her student and friend, and got the girl's mother in a dangerous condition because of his actions. What's the moral of this story? Mind one's own business? Laura's only mistake was talking too much and letting this guy know what was up. But she couldn't have known that she was dealing with a morally repugnant slug. Ugh. I feel terrible for Laura. She really didn't deserve that...she was a caring, intelligent woman. Makes me wonder why the tale ended like that.

@@GoldSkye Hitchcock tended to have kinda dark, twisty endings to much, if not most of the episodes. Very well-crafted tales but not always the happiest resolutions!
So basically the whole episode premise (if I remember correctly) was the new foreign literature teacher trying to become friends with her students, She succeeds but she finds out that one of her students is going out with shady people and shady places. She decided to tell a man who is her next-door neighbor in her apartment building about the situation however it turns out that the man decided to make a ransom note to the girls mother and because of this he was taken by the police and he told the police that she was his accomplice so because of that the next day when she goes to work the girl who is going to the shady place it’s right to a note saying that because it is her mother is in critical condition at the hospital and can’t look at her in the same way, and eventually get all the girls in the class to look at her with spite and hate while the police get there. That’s all I remember from the episode
I don't really get it. The teacher was discrete about the whole matter and didn't divulge any details of the student so how did the neighbour know where to find them and in any case the teacher would most likely be believed that she acted in the best interests of her charges.
The moral of the the story isn't mind your own business. She did the right thing snd her neighbor is the only one to blame. That was a tragic thing that happened, but I would not have blamed the teacher had it been my daughter.

She didn’t really do anything wrong, she was actually concerned for the girl. The neighbor implicated her in HIS scheme. He is a horrible person. She got mixed up with a bad person.

I think it was supposed to make people think. You have to respect boundaries, and even though she had good intentions, she overstepped her boundaries by prying her way into her student's private affairs. It reminds me of the scripture at 1 Thessalonians 4:11. The student appreciated her concern when she left the note under the door, but sadly she told another person who didn't have good intentions, and he brought her down with him, even framing her as the one who came up with the bribery scheme.
This is so ridiculous, what is the point of a 10 minute film when it makes no sense at the end; the film should never have been uploaded in that state?

In this world nothing is perfect. Why try to be perfect in an imperfect world there’s no point to it all.
The neighbor is a scoundrel and the student is even worse. The teacher got trapped between two horrible beings.

That was kind of odd - the innocent, concerned teacher gets unjustly punished.

Now a days, teachers are expected to be more than educators. Families are in crisis which bleeds into a classroom crisis.
They are expected to be more than teachers, because these parents don't want the responsibilities of the choices they made
