    Looking forward to following you guys on your journey! We were supposed to do the first 700 miles this spring but a few health issues have put us off until 2025. I love that you'll be doing a budget and talking about spending along the way.

    I’m getting ready for PCT section. I have similar strategy during the day of hiking in cooler times. Not much trees to hang your filter bag or shade so bring umbrella

    No need for a stove. Everything cooks just fine in the May desert on the PCT during midday siesta. With a mid-May start, trail angels are few and far between. Solar panels NEVER work on the PCT!!! Watch out for rattlers and scorpions during your siestas. It is already very hot out here, so check the water situation at Hauser Canyon. Your budget is more than enough for the PCT. There are Walmarts & grocery stores you can always resupply. Have a wonderful adventure.

    • @ChicaandSunsets
      @ChicaandSunsets  5 місяців тому

      Stove does sound extraneous in the desert. Lol. I think the solar panel will be a winner. I’ll let everyone know how it performs. Thanks for your thoughts. 💭

    • @PhoenixGenesis
      @PhoenixGenesis 5 місяців тому

      Let me know if you find a solar panel that works on the PCT as we’ve tried them all for years with little success. I spent an entire day sitting in a perfectly sunny day with no clouds and only got 10 percent charge on my iPhone. The only solar panels I saw work for anyone on the PCT cost over $300. Mine were $100. You are gonna love the PCT. So amazing!

      @@PhoenixGenesis well, I just tried the Big Blue here in N Carolina and it charged my NiteCore 10k one bar over 2 hours in partial sun. My thought is it’ll keep my battery bank topped off on Siestas. We’ll definitely talk about our findings on future videos.

    I think that is true about a 20 mile AT day could be a 30 mile PCT day BUT you must consider your age and your body AND you are two completely different "animals", Female and Male with different limbs, etc. Hopefully, one of you won't have any flareups that could slow you down. I know you two...try to find breweries and drink lots of beer to replenish your bodies. Taking a stove is good. I use the Pocket Rocket Deluxe with the piezo ignition. It really works great and it's efficient with a regulator and can use up all the gas in the canister. The gravity system works great with the Sawyer. I use a tiny carabiner with some light line and hang it on a branch. You can back flush using a Smart Water Bottle instead of the syringe, which you know. Ouch, 7 to 8 days at a time in the desert will create ripeness only you can appreciate! LOL John from MI

      Yes, we are keeping an eye on the snowpack. Looks like it’s still under normal. Hopefully with the late start we’ll be relatively snow free in the Sierras.
