I like Mike but he lacks self awareness when it comes to Tuck. All the stuff he is complaining about is the same stuff he attacks James Franklin over. And at least in Franklin's case, James has proven to be a very good coach while Tuck hasn't done that yet.
I mean...Franklyn has 6 more years then Tuck at his school and Penn State has history and tradition so he didn't have a dumpster fire of recruits that he walked into...Tuck is a complete rebuild...this year is the prove it year for me and I'm only setting the bar at 7 or 8 wins with a bowl win.
Winning games solves a lot of problems. The transfer portal essentially saved MSU and Mel Tucker with the addition of KW3 that pretty much got Mel paid. The portal effects everyone so its on the coaching staff to adjust accordingly and develop players that they have on the team and recruit the right players coming in.
In regards to recruiting, why do I care about the ranking of a recruiting class when 70% of these guys won't play 4 years for my team. 50% won't play 3 years. My point is you could have a team ranked #30 who keeps their best 4 recruits all 4 years which had a better class than a team ranked #15 who had most of their guys go pro early or leave and never got to be upperclassmen.
Bad organizations lose players to the portal that would be their starting players good organizations lose players to the portal because they're not starters and wouldn't be getting playing time. The Michigan State Spartans are losing their starters for better situations on other teams.
“It’s almost psychotic” can’t wait to see Mike and Rico’s psychotic reaction when Michigan loses a QB to the transfer portal. Oh, wait. He already did go psychotic over that

So, please Mike, don’t confuse your hard on for Michigan to some perceived infatuation for your coach. Because honestly, I hope he stays in E. Lansing for his entire deal! That would only be good for Michigan.
It makes sense...even if he shops around and doesn't like anything he can come back...if he didn't enter he wouldn't have the opportunity. Maybe he will give MSU a chance to match whatever offer he gets.
Losing Payton and Keon absolutely sucks. But their defense was horrible. The offensive line was horrible. Mell MUST recruit in the trenches because that's where football is won.
Mike & Rico downplay the massive loss of MSU's top offensive player and wide receiver and starting QB, use vague language to hide the fact, and then accuse those who think this is a big deal as evidence that they hate Mel Tucker and are racist towards him. MSU loses its best offensive player and wide receiver, Keon Coleman; and its starting QB the last 2 seasons, and their 2-time captain Payton Thorne. Instead of acknowledging this fact, Mike describes Keon Coleman, Payton Thorne, and--at the time--Charles Brantley as "losing three starters." So, no MSU fans concerned about 2 of these 3 "starters" going to the portal is clearly not about just starters transferring, but their incredible significance to the offense and the team. It'd be helpful if Mike & Rico would take these concerns seriously, not downplay them, and not allege the worst about those who disagree with their point of view.
We can act like MSU's the " typical" P5 school going through Portal problems, but the bottom line is for ANY program is to gain traction through retention. A Spartan "commitment " has been as valuable as Enron stock. Just lost Jamari Howard today. If you can't retain, you can't sustain,& Tucker is basically just swapping one in/ one out it seems.
Michigan can afford to lose a couple people, they still win...MSU is not winning so losing key players hurts....that is the difference. Mel Tucker lived off the portal for 2 years, won 11 games with a portal RB....Now it is time to pay that back....Water finds its level. Portal is great to fill spots, still need to recruit.
I don’t disagree with anything they had to say about the portal. As a Michigan fan it will probably happen to us in the near future. And yes it is happening to everyone with the tampering. However can you imagine if Michigan lost 3 of their best players in one day including say JJ and their best offensive player and a starting cornerback Nevermind if it were Will Johnson. These guys would be having a field day. The entire show would have been devoted to it. They had no problem dragging Harbaugh through the streets now it’s no big deal? Harbaugh was able to pull himself up by his bootstraps we’ll see if Tuck can do the same maybe he can. But let’s not act like this isn’t a bad deal for MSU please.
Michigan already had guys ready to replace the players who left. There were no major holes left to fill on the team. MSU just lost their starting QB and their best receiver and have no one to replace them with. HUGE difference.
IF.....IF we do indeed lose Coleman that does suck BIG TIME but I'm happy as HELL that Thorne is leaving! I've been calling for Kim to be QB1 since 1/3 of the way through LAST season. That literally made my day to find out he entered the portal. So, the title of this video is misleading: Thorne and likely Brantley were NOT....I repeat NOT going to start this year. I also could not agree more with how Mike described some MSU fans: bitches. Yep! For sure. They're starting to act like little sister fans ffs.
Michigan lost guys … true, but they have solid if not better backups! Plus they have the number 1 recruiting class coming in 2024. They are pissed at Tucker because the program is drastically heading in the wrong direction!!
So? Next Man up. Let's play the frames and move on. If a player doesn't want to be on the team...for whatever reason, ask them to close the door as they go. There should be no returning...as u can not be counted on.
Btw Michigan St. is 40th in recruiting right now. For the 2024 season. I think everyone thought at least Mel Tucker can do that but he isn’t as of now. No juice no prospects and that is what people in East Lansing should be concerned about.
Thorne finished last year 7/12 in QBR. In 2021 he was ranked 3rd. A healthy Thorne is a good B1G QB. Mike says, “he’s not an NFL QB.” Last NFL draft there was a record 12 QBs drafted. You don’t need to have an NFL QB to have success in college football. This is a terrible take, Mike. It’s very difficult to replace a solid B1G QB.
Mike ONLY “rips State’s ass” when it is the only opinion to take. When it is indefensible. But, when that happens (happens often) he wants to sound unbiased
I will agree with Mike on MONEY. The NCAA needs to put their players to a choice; freedom of movement or getting paid. Having both just makes it impossible to build anything.
Keon is a massive loss. But yeah, I don't care that much about the other two losses let alone see them as existential. I'd definitely rather have kept Brantley than lost him, but he's just one okay to goodish player. I think Noah Kim might be better than Thorne and didn't trust the competition between them to give Kim a fair shot so I'm not upset Thorne is leaving. It also makes sense because Thorne and Reed were a pair and Reed went to the draft.
I love how aloof these two are about the negative press Tucker is getting as to act like it's not common for this to happen. MSU overpaid for their coach in the first place, and then he turned around and goes 5-7 on what looked like a broken team by seasons end. And then you have an offseason like this with starters transferring AFTER the spring game and you expect there is not gonna get hit up in the press? Get real, this isn't a screw job, this is him not making the money he got paid and it doesn't matter where that money came from he is gonna get lit up for it. Guess what...he doesn't make a bowl game for a second straight season and it's gonna happen even more
This is not the press reaching to get Mel Tucker fired. These are stories and questions being brought upon by lack of production and what seems to be the fact that he won the lotto with Kenneth Walker and it's becoming apparent that was not as easy of a thing to repeat as so many people claimed.
I personally think Noah Kim is a better more talented player, with a higher upside than Peyton Thorne. Noah Kim is a big strong kid, so, he I think would be a better leader, and the team will be better if he's made the starter.
@@averycharlesdewey5431 I haven't watched either play at the college level and I don't really follow MSU recruiting that well besides glancing at the rankings from time to time.
Cause him and Kim were basically neck and neck...so we're losing experience...not talent. When UofM moved to JJ they weren't losing talent just game experience...seemed to work fine.
I think the hate for tuck is the fact that he doesn't know hen to punt, go on 4th, fick field goal, or call timeout. Pretty much all the things the hc is supposed to do.
Also, to say Michigan fans are obsessed with Tucker getting fired is crazy-talk. I remember all the Harbaugh talk all these years, it has been just as insufferable.

Valenti's biggest problem is that he is absolutely desperate for State to be Michigan's biggest rival. Sorry, but Michigan fans don't care about MSU except for a couple weeks of the year. It's Ohio State Michigan fans hate and think about and compare themselves to. Valenti can't help but bring up Michigan every time he talks about State football and because he does that he just assume Michigan fans do the same thing about State. Valenti would not go into that because he is ignoring that fact that MSU is not a top flight program and does not have experience and depth waiting in the wings..
“What’s going on with Tuck and the program? Nothing.” Someone finally said something coherent. Tuck has turned MSU into Rutgers.
Hm don’t remember Rutgers winning double digit games and winning ny6 bowl
Don’t insult Rutgers like that. They might be better than sparty this year.
He's turning them into Indiana.
Thorne leaving MSU is a good sign for them tbh bc it means some other QB was beating him out and is better. Losing Coleman is a blow though
I guarantee the guy who wins the job next year is not better than Thorne.....

The difference is Michigan is loaded, and those guys who left were getting passed up. MSWhoo aint the same lol. Coleman left because he sees his team is garbage, and he probably is getting offers for him. But Thorne and Brantley, nobody has tampered for those dudes lol. MSwho is not going to be good and Tucker is a fraud. Mike used to rip Michigan about JH contract for not beating OSU but folks can't say anything about MT getting paid for 1 good season and overall underachieving. Yea okay. Pot meet Kettle
“3 starters” like 1 of them isn’t the best guy on the team
Lil bro radio should just turn into Michigan fans at this point. Your program is a joke
I’m not worried about losing Thorne. I’m worried about losing Coleman. He’s been easily the best player on our roster
Here is the deal with Tucker. 1) he is way over paid 2) he’s a gimmick coach (chop wood is the best thing he has done 😂) 3) he has a thug mentality and promoted that brawl in the tunnel and did not take any accountability for it 4) he only cares about 1 thing and that’s beating UM
1) what was he supposed to do say no thanks I’m well paid? 2) unless your a top tier program (UofM Bama Georgia OSU) every school has some type of slogan or gimmick 3) every player involved was immediately suspended off the team the next day while releasing a public statement later that night 4) yeah he cares about beating his rival id hope so
Thug mentality? You should reevaluate your words buddy
@@bennettjaneski6086 I was very clear and I have thought about it long and hard. What happened in that tunnel is on him and his staff. No accountability. Nothing like that has ever happened in my life. It’s a direct reflection of that piece of 💩

Just say you’re a racist. “Thug mentality” lmao. Let’s just totally gloss over the front-running Michigan player that ran into the tunnel when MSU was exiting the field. Also, how is tucker supposed to police 80+ players at the exact same time? Why didn’t your “thug” coach suspend mazi smith when he got pulled over with an unregistered firearm?
Thorne being gone is good.
Brantley hurts, but if you look at his stats.... not really a game changer.
Coleman is the only one and it sounds like Thorne is why he transferred.
This is the dumbest post ever. Thorne was good. He had his best game ever against UM in 2021. The guy was unconscious. Yes Coleman hurts. But to say Brantley is not a game changer. Teams don't really throw his way. andddddd.....wait for it. He literally changed the UM/MSU game by intercepting McNamara in the closing seconds. @@Mrp5673 Thanks for the common sense take, apparently my comment was the dumbest of all time. lol
Valenti can't hide his frustration for Rico. Every time Rico speaks, Valenti rolls his eyes.
Oh, wait. He already did go psychotic over that
Lmao. Fans are hilarious. Payton Thorne is not that good. He's no big loss. He was awful last year. No loss. Brantley was part of a secondary that was crap. No loss. Coleman is the only loss.
Thorne got carried by Walker. Period. He was nothing without him. Go to the Mac. Lol
Kim is not better than Thorne. If that was the case he would've taken his job long ago.
@@tomwanner5786 take out the one Walker season, Tucker is 12-19 as a head coach. Michigan State alums/fan have valid reasons for being concerned and since Mike had to bring UM fans into this, trust me they’re happy if Tucker remains in EL indefinitely.
@@nashnash07 one of those years was the covid year which was fraudulent to me for everyone. So.
Valenti is so CAP lol😂 You cant compare MSU situation to Mich. Cade got beat out by a better QB and our Senior safety left because his spot got taking.
I know. If JJ, Edwards, and Corum all left then you could compare.
Exactly Payton situation way more desparate sends signal to state if I was a spartan which I'm glad I'm not cause there bozo people anyways ad we see how they handle tuckers presence and after he's gone they can go get grandpa waters nephew run the barn

10:45 I’m a Michigan fan and I know A LOT of Michigan fans…not 1 has a hard on for Mel Tucker, dude doesn’t even come into the conversation till MSU week and then it’s only to laugh at his contract. So, please Mike, don’t confuse your hard on for Michigan to some perceived infatuation for your coach. Because honestly, I hope he stays in E. Lansing for his entire deal! That would only be good for Michigan.
The last day...THE LAST DAY....The sky isn't necessarily falling for state but that's BAD. Especially losing Coleman.
It makes sense...even if he shops around and doesn't like anything he can come back...if he didn't enter he wouldn't have the opportunity. Maybe he will give MSU a chance to match whatever offer he gets.
Tuck Comin, Players Goin...
I mean Keon is their best player. So yeah it’s the first time they are losing starters but this is basically if edwards or corum left Michigan
If Edwards leaves...they have Corum...if Corum leaves they have Edwards....we have more wide receivers.
These guys say Michigan fans are obsessed with state but they constantly bring up Michigan no matter what they’re talking about.
MSU is hopeless they have nothing better to do
You love to hear it.
Thorne may not have been a starter and Brantley is back out of the portal. Coleman’s a loss, but there are WRs in the porthole for MSU to get.
You're gonna miss Keon Coleman. Losing him is quite a blow. The other two are replaceable IF you have depth with talent.
LOL
lmfao sharty is losin their minds I love it

Cause him and Kim were basically neck and neck...so we're losing experience...not talent. When UofM moved to JJ they weren't losing talent just game experience...seemed to work fine.
Rico: "He's not Caleb Williams" 🤣
Yeah no shit!
Did Keon Coleman leave MSU?

I think the hate for tuck is the fact that he doesn't know hen to punt, go on 4th, fick field goal, or call timeout. Pretty much all the things the hc is supposed to do.
With different quirks, Tuck is basically Msu's version of Brady Hoke.
These two are so fake. I literally watched this video to see how they would drag Michigan into this. They are creepily obsessed
Nobody wants to play at Michigan State. How hard is it to figure out
It’s Michigan, and Ohio State and the rest of the Mac
The 2022, 2023 says otherwise
I’d love to see the reaction if JJ McCarthy, Cornelius Johnson, and Will Johnson all entered the portal on the same day.
Also, to say Michigan fans are obsessed with Tucker getting fired is crazy-talk. I remember all the Harbaugh talk all these years, it has been just as insufferable.
Considering 2 of those are 5* and you didn’t lose a 5* it’s not a great comparison

It's just so annoying and tedious and the homerism is absurd; especially since he pretends to be objective.
