- What are the two most iconic “Service Boots” that have defined the category so much so that every service boot since the late 2000s have been a derivation of these two designs? In this video I go through the characters of the Viberg Stitchdown Service Boot © and the White’s MP Service Boot.

Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands and makers as well as the collectors!
In this channel, I will give information found in my research about the brand, the construction, and the materials, but I will express my personal opinions about how I feel about the boots reviewed.

Alright, I guess despite my comparatively passing interest in boots I've watched enough of these to subscribe. I'm seriously impressed by your presentation skills in these videos, it seriously rivals most of the formal training I've received in my adult life.
Thank you!
Here we go! Solid review!
Awesome video Teik. Ive been venturing out to more of a country boot style these days having recently acquired a pair of Loake Burford boots. Theres nothing like the feeling of perfectly fitting boots for sure!
After getting into boots 10 years ago.. I've tried them ALL. Trumans, Whites, Nicks, Grant Stones, Red Wings. At the end of it all..the Vibergs stand head and toe above the rest. Not only is the 2030 the perfect last for my foot, but the build quality has always been the best. The stitch per inch density is 9! Any most any boot you can pick out little flaws in the craftmenship, but not with viberg. Its pure kino! My 2030 Viberg shinki horsebutt is my grail boot. I've actually began selling off the pairs from other companies and I think the only non viberg boots I will keep is my trumans in coyote rough out, and red wing iron ranger as its the first nice boot I ever bought. If your looking to get into service boots, stay away from Thursday.. It IS tempting for the price, but trust me.. they are JUST a bit better than trash.
Great video again, I really enjoyed this.
Well I just started my high end journey after buying Thursday Captains. The best way to buy Viberg’s is new “used” from poor soul that got the wrong size or wrong foot. Mine just came in the mail today and went out in the snow. I am a very happy camper.
Own both and like them. I do feel the MP is a more rugged boot. Viberg is a more refined casual boot that can be dressed up or down.
Totally!
Watched this again after what seems to be an incessant pondering on a White's MP purchase... I like this type of side-by-side discussion of two great options. More videos of this type are encouraged! By coincidence, I am wearing a Viberg 2030 horsebutt today and am reminded again how wonderful the fit is for me. I hope the MP last, or the one they are using on their new CMP boot would fit as well as these 'bergs. Thanks again, Teik for great content and delivery.
I find the viberg to be better in every way, except my Whites are more comfortable and maybe a little heavier duty.
Great review Teik. Both excellent boots, without a doubt two of the top Service boots out there 💪🥾
Your brown CXL coming up soon!
I love my two pairs Vibergs. Your assessment of them is pretty much spot on. I really want MPs, but I'm actually afraid to order a pair. I have read many reports of spotty quality control with the MP line. After owning the "perfect" Vibergs I must confess, I'm spoiled. Cheers
I have 4 pairs of MPs, 2 “old” and 2 new, all good QC. I recently bought their Fulton and had an issue!
@@Bootlosophy You now need a pair of Nicks Falcons, to complete the Pacific NW, stitch down, 'military" boot comparo!
Have around a dozen pairs of Whites boots in various classic designs. They had no issues or flaws. Their construction is more of a rough and ready boot that can take a beating. They are not more refined like some other makers. I usually go a 1/2 size down in many quality boots, but the MP model, had to go down a full size.
Since I live in Seattle, I’ve been able to visit Nicks, Whites, and Vibergs. Obviously, all are quality boots and personal preference comes into play. However, I’ve been able to purchase Nicks Urban Logger for $610 including tax and delivery. I paid the same for my Whites MP Sherman. The Vibergs, which I did not buy, came in at almost $1000 (with tax and delivery). Even if they were the same price, the Nicks and Whites just seemed more robust. It’s true the Vibergs are more refined but their prices seem a bit ridiculous. On the other hand, I feel Whites and Nicks, while expensive, are excellent value.
What sort of arch do you have and can you explain your experience between the arch support of the MP and the huge urban logger?
@@sssnrrr I’m on the MP last on the MPs and the 55 last on the Urban Logger. I prefer the 55 but it’s definitely a PNW look. A note on sizing, I’m a 9 1/2 D Brannock. I take a 9D in Nicks and also in Whites 55 last, but on the MP last, I’m a 8 1/2 E. Between the UL and the MP style wise is Whites Cruiser. Hope that helps.
This was a fun video to watch, Teik.
I like both boots, but don't own either brand.
Excellent review, I don’t have either brand yet. 😀
Wow! Beautiful country, also great boots.🇨🇦👍😎
Strange how things turned out. All the materials I've seen suggest Boondockers, Russets, &c. were Goodyear welted, but here we are with two "service boot" icons, both logger stitchdown. Rolling welts or fiddling with umpteen-SPI Rapid machines would have been madness in wartime! I guess the real madness is fretting construction…on my way to and from an office chair.
Haha! I’m pretty sure WW2 boots were GYW in the US but the British and colonials (Australia, Canada, India, South Africa) seem to have stitchdown.
Interesting! In had the impression '40s ammo boots and such were nailed or welted. But come to think of it, that might have come from handling reproductions. More research to do!
@@kemitchell Maybe there were early/late periods in the war but I’ve definitely seen Aussie boots used at the Kokoda Trail that were stitchdown and I’m guessing South Africans at least started the war with veldtschoen
Great video as always! In addition I like the Tricker’s Churchill service boot. Division Road’s Ebony waxed Kudu is a must!
I’m lusting after the Churchill!
You won’t regret it! The rolled collar, and pinking set it apart from the rest 👍
Trickers used to have (and maybe still do) a Tramping Boot for those leaning more toward the ruggedness of the White's.
My suggestion - buy.a pair of Alden's, which are the dressiest of the three, and you will start treating your Viberg's differently.
I have this exact White’s. Also several Grant Stone boots, several Carmina boots, especially the 80184 “work boot”, Alden cap toe boots, brogues and austere, but I’m wondering if I need to get a pair of Viberg 2030 service boots. I have so many already that are similar in style, well made, great style, but I still feel a “need” or rather a want that feels like a need. Haunting the Viberg website and fighting the urge lol
Both MPs and Viberg BCTs are the gold standard of service boots but if I had to choose one it would definitely be the Viberg service boot.
Here"s the difference for me: I don't feel weird wearing my Whites in the woods. My Vibergs feel like dress boots in the woods.
Too right
Great video! How do the oakstreet trench boot measure up to these two heavyweights ?
Good but in a different class, like a really good Toyota against a Mercedes
White's has a semi annual sale. You can catch them on sale making them a AWESOME buy.
When is the sale??
Heck of a showdown! Question: what backpack/rucksack were you wearing out and about in the woods there? I've yet to venture into the world of Viberg but love all of my White's.
New Zealand brand called Rodd & Gunn but they no longer make this
@@Bootlosophy Still totally cool, thanks!
Hello and thank you for the video. I have a question: are the Allen Edmonds Landon boots an homage to White's MP Service boots? Please have a safe and pleasant weekend!
To be fair, I think they stand on their own, but AE did try to jump on the Viberg/White’s Service Boot trend of the 2000s.
Brother, your floors are gorgeous.
Viberg for sure
Teik - I've never had Whites before, only Viberg, Alden and Paraboot (another great brand or used to be, that we haven't talked about). How did you come by the White's MPs without the brand embossing on the collar? Also, do you know the difference between the different MP Sherman's currently being offered "MP Sherman", "MP-M1" and "MP-M1TC"?
The difference is the single or double backstay, and TC is toe cap
What jeans are you wearing in those hiking clips? They fit well
Rodd & Gunn
I "like" when companies use words to describe leather that mean almost nothing.
Culatta is cut of the leather, it could be veg or chrome tanned, tumbled or smooth, oiled or crust, shrunken or embossed, cow or horse... It just means rear end cut and nothing else.
Or call colours “husk”
@@Bootlosophy I was looking around for leather deals today and found Moose Track color at Acadia Leather, I would call it taupe but Moose Track sure sounds better.
@@Bootlosophy If it’s not named after a tobacco product or whiskey, is it even really brown 😂
@@aradoran 🤣🤣🤣
what do you think about the white's MP plain toe for daily urban wear? will the MP last without captoe look bulky?
it seems you're the only professional MP boot master in this platform.
I’ve just got a plain toe and they look fine
What year did you get those vibergs? They seem to have changed the shape of the stitch down service boot. It lost some of its charm.
Depends on the last and captoe or plain toe. These were 2023 and they haven’t changed their lasts for a while now.
I want to try Viberg but the cost is just not reasonable given Nicks, Whites, hell even Bourdon offer great stitch down boots at a very reasonable price.
Lol yeah they are pricey! But do you think that’s like saying “Jeep make cars with wheels that go around just like Mercedes”?
@@Bootlosophy very valid point. I think I need to see a pair in my hands to see if they are worth the extra cost over my MP boots.
@@jeffbonnell1868 you know what I think about MPs, nothing beats them!!
Here is something you may want to let your viewers about Viberg boots. Unlike other boots, with a 30 to 90 day return for refund policy, Viberg has NO return for refund policy, and will ONLY take a return for an EXCHANGE or STORE CREDIT. Also, once you place your order with Viberg, you have TWO DAYS TO CANCEL. If you do not cancel in 2 days, YOU ARE STUCK WITH THEIR BOOTS OR SHOES. In 30 years of buying boots and shoes, I have never seen policies like this. So, BUYER BEWARE!! PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THIS...PLEASE TELL THEM.
Thanks, didn’t know that! I buy my Vibergs from a store here in Australia with a 30 day return. Also a “fit for purpose” return if it’s faulty. It’s the law here.
You may want to look into your audio setup as your mic is peaking pretty hard sometimes in your recent videos. Its very crunchy and kind of unpleasant to listen to.
Can I ask what you’re watching on?
@@Bootlosophy Usually on my living room TV using home theater speakers. The indoor part of this video sounded clean but the outdoor section was rough. Not sure if your mic was peaking or if the levels were over boosted during editing.
@@Xaluber ok thanks
White's looks more military boots to me.
