    I just had this problem recently in my 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. That said, however, I did not smell any rotten eggs, but I did feel the sulfur clogging my catalytic converter, resulting in an engine light and reduced acceleration performance. Naturally, people at AutoZone and O'Reilly told me that I needed a new catalytic converter, but I tried putting a catalytic converter cleaner to remedy the solution, and it resolved the problem.

    "top tier" gas is the way to go with most modern vehicles.

    well if you are worried about old gasoline, don't ever go to expensive stations. There is almost never anyone there.

    Top Tier Gasoline. Basically a voluntary program by manufacturers and fuel distributors that use above Federal Standards for detergent concentration and more efficient burning of fuel and cleaner fuel injectors and the fuel system in general. They don’t charge more for Top Tier rating. If the station is a Top Tier participant then they don’t charge extra. They could possibly charge slightly more than competitors without TopTier but if so usually maybe about 02-03. cents a gallon!

    As I sure others have stated, we are more interested in Shell vs. Wawa. Some experts state the quality is the same but is it?

    I wouldn't jump from brand to brand of gasoline. Stick with a good quality gasoline such as Shell, Exxon/Mobil or BP which are known to contain a good amount of detergent.

    • @danielware4069

    • @LouieGMDesign

      +LouieGMDesign I figured as much. I've never had any issues with their gas but I'm more partial to Shell or BP. However, my spouce HATES BP with a passion after the mishap in the gulf.

    • @skittykitty1000
      @skittykitty1000 7 років тому

      LouieGMDesign13 Exxon Mobil synergy gas is the best by far. Chevron Texaco is next best in my opinion. BP is ok but no great and Shell is the poorest performing in my experience as far as the top tier brands go. Regarding Pacecar, Liberty, Raceway, Marathon and other lower tier fuels I avoid them unless I have no choice such as risking running out of gas before the next station.

      Shell is not American, BP is not American-- either you buy American or not.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 8 років тому

      Transportation costs are high. Usually it all comes from the refinery closest to your home.

    • @chief1972
      @chief1972 7 років тому +4

      But the additives aren't the same.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 7 років тому +2

      Why do they have to be "the same"? Of course they're not chemically absolutely identical and the products aren't the same color either. So what? If they meet the federal standard, they are adequate. With that said, there is some evidence that "tier one" gasoline may offer superior cleaning properties and could be worth the extra few cents.

    Why is there a different scent in winter / summer fuels after they are combusted by your car??? Fuel stabilizers? I personally add Startron to all of my fuel in mowers, 2-stroke quads, truck because I had seen issues with a lot of moisture / stale fuel when a divise has sat for awhile. I work on a lot of equipment.

    • @rygi23
      @rygi23 9 років тому +1

      I had the same question recently when noticing decreasing mpg when it gets cold every year. Winter gas is a different mixture than the rest of the year. Basically it's a less pure fuel, hence cheaper, leading to more harmful emissions and less mpg. Just do a search on it for a more detailed explanation.

    • @chantzreeds3048
      @chantzreeds3048 9 років тому +1

      fattony123082 During the winter they change the composition of that gas, what they do is add additives to prevent freezing and quick starting in the cold weather.

    The guy is right. I kept on telling my family members to stop going to cheap gas station. You only save a few bucks, but then later on replacing the fuel sending unit cost them almost $500 and a shitty running engine because of stale gas and deposits on the valves and internals, which then fails smog check, then another $800 to de-carbon the valves and the internals and a tune up. Wow, great savings there huh?

    • @cengeb

      new versions of the 2.0t have better cooling in the top end of the engines...I had zero carbon issues on my last few versions of the latest 2.0T...the older ones where walnut blasted and yes that price is about right, unless still under warranty. My current 2019 Golf R 88,000 fun miles, not one issue, no buildup

    The gas comes from the same depots...one thing true is high volume stations will have fresher gas...gas can go stale, after a long long time. I was told by other EXPERTS, buy the cheapest gas ya can it comes from the same depots, and it does. I travel in 5 states, last VW Jetta was 316,000 miles VR6, NEVER had a gas issue, bought gas all over the 5 states. Paying more in high price states is, not better gas, it's just more over priced!

    • @chief1972

      Refiners ship gas for all brands, when one refinery is making one thing, another brand can fill the void...it's all mixed, ...Here BP is always teh cheapest on the local highway, out of 4 different brands, Exxon, Citgo, BP, Shell, WaWa...BP is also a top tier, with delivery trucks, with no names, like all stations now..
