- The vibe of the Irish West coast in the1970s created through music and film. Footage originally shot in late 1960s (1969) to early 1970s. Clips are taken from old black and white films, very noisy and overexposed. They have now been cut, colorized, reorganized and remastered into a film the viewer should find enjoyable.
Soundtrack
0:00 Firefly - Chris Haugen
1:19 The Colonel - Zachariah Hickman
4:06 Ibiza Dream - Chris Haugen

Cool.... as a four year old i landed in the northwest of Ireland in 1970 with my family. I feel so lucky to have witnessed those years, yes there were hardships and 'troubles' (i don't mean to trivialise the deaths of so many people, i was too young then to understand). Yet Ireland struck me with a wild beauty that inspires my imagination.. unfortunately Ireland is becoming homogonised into what? Our uniqueness as a nation and the usefullness of our traditions are almost lost.. shame on us..
When the so called leader of this country stands up and says we will have no more backward thinking of sovereignty then you know where it’s heading.
Beautiful Ireland. Slow but sure, but fast becoming fast and feckless. Treasure these memories. Like so many rural places/lives, disrupted and destroyed by the big 'land grab'.
😢❤
When people worked hard and enjoying life! No social media crap!
Love all these fuzzy warm responses about another era - a time of Mother & Baby homes & Magdalene Laundries. A time of poverty and emigration. Just can't wait to get back to hand mowing and having a scrawny cigarette butt sticking out of the side of my mouth. A cupán tae or a fierce fancy irel coffee to wash down those stylish Jacob Club Milks, the height of sophistication. Out again for another dawn till dusk back breaking set of tasks to give that complete weather-worn leathery face look by the age of thirty - where once I had hands are now callused permanently crooked arthritic claws. And all of my clothes, even the finest, smelling of peat, whisky, Catholic guilt, and a sense of depression. Bring it on. And why was that total hot babe, Peig Sayers, the epitomy of Irish womanhood, not included in this footage?
Bring back memories as a lad growing up in Tipperary in the 70s, milking the cows by hand with my grandfather, taking milk in the churns and Billy cans to the creamery on pony and trap. Fond fond memories of a time and culture that is now gone. I remember turning hay by fork and building trams and we the neighbours
Remember this as a lad. Going to see my dads sister/brother on the countryside coast Clifden at their farm, after seeing grandparents farm in Clare, such was the standard of a child born in England of Irish parents. Lovely times
Love it , took us back to at least 100 years . Organic and pure life
Great video ,I remember kerry exactly like this about 1970 .Lovely music
I just came across your Channel....absolutely lovely...I grew up in rural Ireland in the 60's....I returned to my home place 5 years ago to take care of my mam....she is 95 now and, thankfully, in good health and full of stories about the old days.....I will be showing her your videos....so lovely....thank you and well done....
As always, brilliant music choices on videos.
Love your videos!!!
very enlightening...
thanks and greetings from tasmania
The beautiful Blaskets and West Kerry
I so enjoyed seeing this! Simple but hard life back then but iam sure they were alot more happier and more respectful to the elders. I visited in 2011 and fell in love with the countryside. So sorry that it is changing for the worse. But iam sure some would disagree with this. Iam part Irish and hope some day to visit again. Thank you!
It is not changing for the worse. Ireland is now a progressive modern country full of opportunity. Much better than it was in the 60/70's. Not a single person who was brought up in those times would wish their children to grow up the same. TBH this looks more like the end of the 50's than the 70's that I knew.
Your choice of music is so cool to accompany these videos. Exactly the kind of music people living in the West of Ireland love - even now, despite disenchantment with EU policies etc....
Love the video. Brought back memories of busy mornings, with farmers going to the creamery with the milk. The music sounds like American country music. Traditional Irish 🍀 music would be more suitable!!!!
The Irish came to the Americas and brought their music (thank God) especially in the Appalachians :)
♥️
West kerry.dunquin area.good old times
Amazing
This is more of the 1950s in Ireland than the 1970s... We had cars & tractors in the 70's.. Might be worth changing the title to reflect that.. And I was born in Co Clare on the West Coast in the 70's so I can attest to this :) Great content though... fair play... maybe more Irish Trad than blues/roots music in the next one ! But fair play to you.
I was born in the 50's and I remember the 70's probably better than you, as a baby then, do. Cars were a rare enough commodity, I finally got the chance to learn to drive in the late 70's when I went to work in Scotland. I think the music choices in Erin of Olds clips are pure genius. There are thousands of (not very memorable🥱 and all the same old ...🥱) videos with Irish trad music but none with such eclectic choices as these! Don't revert to "same old" please Erin of Old. Your music choices are class and so appropriate!
Kerry in the 70s was exactly like this.......a high percentage of farmers still went to the creamery by donkey and cart or the horse and cart.
@Peter Ger I remember Kerry in the 70s, we used to visit my grand uncle who was a fiddler player in the black shop in Castlecove. He used to live in a run down old cottage belonging to my great grandparents, as off 2023 the ruins of the old stone cottage is still there.
Tom you were born in 1970. Things changed very quickly when we joined the EEC in 73. I can assure you this was still happening as depicted in the few years left before the influence of the EEC. By 1980 it had changed very much.
How u got those videos great job

I wish you would tell us what the music is.

All three songs are listed in the description
It is COLOUR not color!!
It's color on the American side of the pond and colour in Ireland and the UK.
American English or not we know what the word means! 🤣🤣
