The question is... WAS THAT LEFT INSANE?!
Sick left
Cray waves🤙🏽, have you been having a problem with sea lice??
We hadn’t until midway through the last session in the video... but other than that, no.
I'm not sure but was that left insane or what? haha
In the MEMBRANE INSANE!!!!
man i love your channel. no rock and roll "look how wild and edgy i am" crap. just chronicling the life of a really good surfer who lives in a really good place to be a surfer and who is also a family man sharing his love for the ocean with his family. amazing cinematography too.
I really appreciate it. Never trying to be something I'm not... just showing life as it is :) , and this beautiful place I call home. Thanks for the support and encouragement!
one of the greatest shore break surfing videos out there
Wow! Beautiful. Mason is growing up fast. Love watching his progression, and stoke. More Mason surfing, perfect.
This is...for me...what perfect Hatteras looks like. Peaky and fun. Man.
It's crazy how close to the beach those waves break. Nice to see your son surfing. Great insight about surfing the right place on the right time. I'll not blame my self to hard next time I find out that I could have surfed better waves that day.....hahaha
Man, that is such a beautiful place. I love the OBX
fortunate to call this place home for sure!
MAN! That break is so close to the shore!
I grew up in Hawaii. Ben is the only dude who could make me think 'Oh maybe I could live on the East Coast, still get waves'
There's always waves around here... and not even novelty waves. My buddy runs a surf camp, and in 15yrs, even on the 2-3 flattest weeks he's experience, they still found waves.
Brett, I'm a goofey foot born n raised in Orange County California, Huntington Beach. The Dirty Wedge was my stomping grounds (I know its Newport-Zooport but in the 70s it was way less crowded. My Dad surfed but mostly knee boarded and skated the concrete.
Now I find myself in Asheville NC and Ben Graif (Gravey) colab brought me to your channel, you're a true Man of Water, that is commendable. Great content, thanks for your time and effort. PEACE
Asheville is a good drive away from OBX... but hopefully you can get out here one fine day and get some waves! Thanks for following along, and I really appreciate the support!
Also from SoCal Gary. Been in NC for 20yrs. Brett has great content. Hey Brett looking to surf this Monday and Tuesday on the Outer Banks near S-turns maybe. Looks like theres some little nugs bumpin up. Any recommendations? I'm Also a Wedge foolio so I prefer thick and steep bowls. I surf and boogie but mainly boogie.
GO Masen!! that was great
Yeah!! The kid gets it!! Hes trying!!! Congrats Masen!
he loves it!
Killing the game. I think that left was insane!!!!!! Loving the water clips too
4:35 was sick. Best tube rider on east coast? Good stuff man
I appreciate the good vibes and purity of this channel.
Thanks!
ok that standup barrel was MENTAL
Was in the north banks last week, so much fun swell in the water. I hadn't seen clean surf day after day like that down there in years. Little man has no fear, training the heir, awesome stuff 👏 😎
...wrong call, wrong time, wrong place?...well, you fooled me BB😎. Rockin the Sandbar as usual!🔥🤙🏻🇺🇸
I mean... in comparison to what was on offer that day, I didn't nail it, but still had a blast. Killer waves that day on offer.
Brett Barley ...still Wicked~Awesome footage man!...and that coffee⚡️🤘🏻
It’s so sick how you guys get slabs and barrels right up on the shore. When it gets good here in south FL it’s always a long paddle with mad current and fewer tubes.
Your vids are pure fire bro!
Great stuff man🤙🏽
Best vlog on YT!
Great video. Your vlogs never disappoint man.
Thank you! Means a lot
love obx, what beautiful waves!
Little man was rippin' it!
It's been a lot of fun in VB this week!
🤙🏽
Lol it was like 2 ft at the ecsc
Things change quickly :) summer was mostly flat.
Always high quality vids mate keep it up yew
thanks!!
Deff looks you scored some pretty fun shorebreak surf!! I went surfing Tuesday around pea island area and it was absolutely firing in the AM, then it got really shallow when the tide dropped out.
You surfed with your son!
I don't know anything that could top that! Spearfishing maybe, that's what we do.
That was a good one. Thank you
Great Job ....Keep it UP !
Yew!
best surf vlog there is
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
killen it masen
The beginning of the video with the shore break it looked like face plant city!
It was so gnarly!
I love those kind of waves. Really fun and the easiest paddle out you could ask for.
@@eman5280 I'm 41 now but remember well a day in Croatan 2002ish, chest high 20 yards of shore surfed til i couldbt3push up anymore
you killed it Brett Just subscribed to the channel!
Thanks for following along!!! Appreciate it and hope you continue to enjoy :)
I must admit, you get a lot bigger and better waves than the
'other" videographers.I could name the wannabees but I wont.
I need to do more exploring to find those high tide shorebreak barrels 😁
Dude , you’r the best not make anything surfer in the world !
😂😂😂😂
love your content
Thank you! Makes me stoked to hear that
Episode 45! Episode 45!!!
Masen's ripping!!!!
I gotta get to the IBX for a storm swell some time
Pencil me in for a few of those. Stuck inland watching the cams. Be back soon!
The Island is waiting
scored on cape cod the past two days, tuesday: over head barrels and perfect conditions... Wednesday fun shorebreak tubes !!!
epic!
"That left was insane!! That left was insane."
Thanks for the STOKE!
yew!!
Really cool video. Thanks for sharing. When do you decide not to wear a leash?
I do the same exact thing about reflecting a good day of waves. I’ll look back and say, “man, I coulda played that one better”. I’m guilty of frothing too hard.
Brah, that grom charges harder than most of my friends!
He just wants to surf as much as possible. Love it
I heard that Monday and Tuesday are gonna be firing down in OBX can’t wait 😊
Could be fun. We’ll see
Brett Barley were here in bux so on it either way 🤞
Fuckin sick...
Hey Brett, what lens was Jeff/ Cody using during the shorebreak portion of the video? Awesome color grading too brotha, great vid.
Cody was using my GoPro Hero 8 shooting 1080/240p... he attached it to the top of his water housing while he shot photos. Jeff shoots with the Panasonic GH5, using a Canon 100-400 lens for all the surf shots.
Pop up and drop is silky especially in about 1 foot of water
So sick , where yall at? Is that in buxton? Down from hotels or something?
Sorry... cannot divulge that information ;)
I was waiting for Masen to get barreled
He was so bummed when he saw the clip of him diving on and saw the wave barreled. He’s learning :)
how is it so uncrowded lol .... over here on west coast there wouldn't be room to paddle hahaha
We've got 50+ miles of beach breaks here on the island... sandbars shift and setup different places all the time, so if you do some searching you can always get away from the crowds if you want. there were plenty of places packed out that day, I just didn't go to em.
I love the speed ramping. What FPS are you filming in to be able to do that?
The water GoPro stuff was 1080/240p, the land footage was 1080/180p shot on the Panasonic GH5
Some land stuff was 4K/60p
@@brettbarley Thanks. Well, it looks great. Do you drop that footage into a 24p timeline, then speed up the sections you want to look real time? Or create a high frame rate timeline, then slow down the footage where you want? Just wondering how you get the high fps stuff to look so smooth at normal speed.
I always edit on a 24p timeline. I slow the footage down to whatever percentage 24 is of 240/180/120/60...
240 I can slow it down to 10%.
180 can go down to 13%
120 can go down to 20%
60 can go down to 40%
@@brettbarley cool thanks.
Why do east coast waves tend to break right at the shore? I'm in northern California constantly battling white water.
I hunt down the sandbars that do... plenty of places break further out
Are sharks the reason you don't surf cape point that often? Seems like a good setup for a variety of swell conditions..
Ya... they are very thick out there. Sketchy
Waves at 2:45
Have u ever surfed in assateauge va
yes, once... for like an hour. I was on my way to NJ
How olds that kid? because he ain't scared of the water. Brave lad.
He just turned 8 in June
What breed of shark is an issue in your area?
Bullsharks are the scariest ones here... but Blacktips, Spinner Sharks, Sand Tigers, etc... all inhabit the area. And CApe Point is one of the sharkiest places around, but the water was pretty so it’s less of an issue if water is clear.
5:07 BELLE SLAMMINA
How do I always miss the swell? Dammit surf line and your “1-2 ft” rating
Surfline was calling this pretty accurately
Brett Barley I must have just missed it bc I look everyday
Both Monday and Tuesday were showing 3-4, with Tue showing 3-4 occ. 5. Wednesday was 2-3+ and Sunday 2-3+. Pretty on par with what happened other than Wednesday actually had more swell early morning than expected.
you scored anyway man, that's all there is....
Best part. No crowd
Truth!
I wish I was where you are right now. In Northern California where I live is pretty much on fire. The air quality is horrible and ash is falling from the sky. Another great vid brett👍
It’s a total bummer with fires here.
The poor air did thin out the OB lineup a bit tho.. still I would rather have crowds and clear skies
Goofyfoots will take over the world one day.
Where is this?
Cape Hatteras, NC
Brett Barley looks quiet and peaceful there, id be out there all day like that, in Oceanside we get some nice waves once in awhile.
@@richardadorno9187 it is a very special place.
wishing my sandbar didn't get destroyed by hurricane Isaias :(
most of our sandbars got torn up by Isaias too... not many places here will even break at high tide right now :/
@@brettbarley yeah it's mostly flat now unless the buoys are claiming overhead
Do you know Ryan Dawson?
Ya. I know his brothers better but I’ve known that family since I was little.
@@brettbarley Scott just did an online presentation with the Museum of the Albemarle on the Lost Colony of Roanoke. His brother may be somewhat controversial but it's worth a view: www.bitchute.com/video/agUPldubAaA/.
@@jdoe265 ya Scotts work in discoing the "Lost Colony" wasn't actually lost, has been incredible! huge finds
Has the East Coast taken over the West Coast as the best coast for surf? No, really.
Not even close. East coast has sick waves, do not get me wrong, nor am I hating on Eastcoast ,but SoCal alone has some of the best waves hands down, Blacks, Wind and Sea, Trestles, Newport Jetties, Huntington, Laguna etc. Beach breaks, Reef breaks, etc. There is just so much to offer.
He is a Jamie O’Brien wanna be with the “boom” and the hand was ver the camera
Campbell Calder Dont be a hater, and an inaccurate one at that. A soul surfer that wins the Volcom Pipe Pro from Outer Banks, is never a “wanna be”.
😂😂😂 what a stretch of an attempt at an insult. First off... what is the “boom” reference?
Second... Been doing the hand over the camera since Day 1 over 2.5yrs ago... didn’t know Jamie does it now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I use it as a way to transition segments.
Third... in what way are my videos at ALL like Jamie’s? I shoot and edit all my own stuff, other than the guys who film me surf. Been doing videos like this since I was a teenager... I literally started a UA-cam channel the year UA-cam launched. If you wanna go look at my old videos from 2006-2010... Or, you can just keep tossing out ignorant insults.
