I was at Deserts for that huge June swell that year shooting for Bill Heick and his documentary "Secrets of Desert Point". The only thing at Deserts that compared with this were a few of the undocumented sessions that went down way inside at the Grower...
Listen to the guys on the boat filming, Guaranteed there parting hard getting yayed out 😂 you can hear some snorting, blasting some rails. Smelling there keys 🔑 😂 bet there having a beautiful time 🤙🏼

The guy surfing this spot backside with no rail grab is very impressive as well, but Craig's wave would have gotten the cover I think any day of the week. His reclined position on the face after his initial bottom turn, such a tiny board on such a big wave, spoke volumes of his skills as a waterman and what most of us dream to be; chill in the most chaotic of ocean circumstances.

The boat shots show the surfers skill at getting inside but the beach shots with the radio in the background looking through the long lens with foggy sea spray and shimmering wave was the most perfect representation of a summer beach day and could have been from 1970 to 2022. Looks deceptively perfect, but in reality hard to catch, hard to judge exactly what the waves gonna do, so much water moving, little ribs and boils plus everyone is undergunned . Ando is effin gnarly, and the reg footer just after 10 min mark with that late drop and deep barrel whoa that was heavy. Lotta boys charging gotta give it up, much respect.
