Seriously, all Nate had to say was "I really don't like the nickname Wonder Kid" and the team would've dropped it like a hot rock. He doesn't really trust them.
literally! they have come so far with him and really support him but I feel like he's always on the defense now ready to fight back but no on else is fighting 😭
Relationships with fathers are a powerful recurring theme. Ted has talked about the influence of his dad, we've seen the issues with Jamey and his dad, Sam obviously has a close relationship with his own dad, and we see how Nate's dad seems very unimpressed with his son's success. That father-son relationship seems to be a powerful part of their characters.
yes I think it is so interesting to get to see the theme of the fathers being brought up and the different relationships they all have with each other! 🩶
Part of Nate's problem is due to the Wonder Kid label, which is what he called himself in the live interview (and wanted to be fixed in editing). The expression is Wunderkind, and the fact Nate didn't know that embarrassed him. So when Will suggests the Wonder Kid shirt, Nate is once again embarrassed and lashes out at Will. Also, Nate spitting in the mirror is a sign of how much self-loathing he has. Still, it doesn't excuse his behavior. The mix of power and insecurity is a miserable combination.
Nathan Shelley is one of my favorite character in the show. Such a great performance from Nick Mohammed. The fact that Nathan is getting you frustrated, just shows you how talented Mohammed is as an actor. Season 2 is more emotional and darker than season 1. Keep up the great work Ryann!
Ryann you’re getting through these episodes so quickly! The Ted Rebecca thing is a classic misdirection. Teds therepy journey is flight, fight and accept. In one episode 😂 Nathan only had a go at Colin. Not Jamie. He sees Colin and Will as weaker than him so he can ‘bully’ them.
I'm having such a blast with this show!! I'm really happy the ted and Rebecca are not actually a thing, THANK GOD. I would've got on that ride and had a great time, but I'm so happy that it went a different way 🤣
@@ryannrodkey5669 If you look back briefly at episode one, Nate yells at Ted and Beard to get off the pitch until he realises who they are. Also when he’s promoted to assistant Coach, he’s suspicious of Will and won’t shake his hand and when Rebecca comes in he says ‘ You did this , you shrew’ she replies ‘why so hostile Nathan? Which focuses him on the fact she knows who he is.
One of the interesting things about the episode is that it's super obvious to the audience what Keeley is feeling (and why it's valid), but Roy has no way to really know that, because she's actively hiding it from him. His only hope was if he had just decided on his own that it was healthier for them to have some time apart, but even then, he'd have no way of knowing how Keeley felt about that. As much as I can sympathize with her annoyance (especially the bit where he was commenting out loud on his book while she was trying to do something else), I'm very frustrated by her lack of communication. If communicating would require saying something hurtful, I can understand the impulse to avoid that moment, but that wasn't even the case, here! "Hey Roy, I really like spending a lot of time with you, but spending *all* of my time with you is a bit much. I really need some time each day to just decompress by myself." No insult, nothing that implies that she loves him less than he loves her, nothing confrontational. Why was it so hard for Keeley to say?? Anyway, I'm glad they figured it out in the end.
yes exactly! I adore keeley, but this was an episode where I was really frustrated with her and how she was handling the situation when she's usually so open and blunt about literally everything. all in all, I'm so glad it gave roy another opportunity to show how incredible he is 🩶
This is a rewatch for me, so I have so many thoughts on a particular character that I want to share, but I don't want to spoil it. Guess I'll need to be patient. Ugh...waiting is so hard.

Keeley and Rebecca are friendship goals!
ABSOLUTELY
Roy’s playlist for Keeley is available on Apple Music. They also have soundtrack playlists for all 3 seasons.
ooooh what a cool addition to the show!! if only I didn't use Spotify, I'd be living 🤣
