I know this is an OLD post, but I just ran into this same problem last night on my 360. I'm betting that every wired 360 controller made about that same time has the same vendor ID and device ID, so the USB hub can't tell them apart when they're on the same bus. We ran into something very similar with a product we build where I work, because two boards were using the same default values on their FTDI chips. We changed one of them to a non-default address and that fixed it. Not sure what the solution is on the XBOX except to use one back port and one front port and two wireless controllers. Thanks for posting this video; now I know I'm not crazy. Probably. ;)
This is happening to me when I try to play on pc with a controller. I’ll be playing and randomly it lights up as player two, and I can’t move or do anything.
I have this problem to and i bougt 6 controllers from different stores and i found finally 2 controllers that works. The ser number must be different (the last 4 numbers) if they are the same it won't work. (Sorry for my bad english)
I tried this and IT WORKS. I had two controllers with the same last 4 digits and the same Lot No. Went and got a third controller from a different lot/different 4 last digits and syncing is now without problems.. Microsoft must have screwed up in designing these controllers usb interface.
Looks like a USB Root Hub problem where the XBOX360 does not ID the controllers by their USB ID but by their USB Root Hub ID. If you plug in 2 controllers to the same USB root hub they will both have the same USB Root Hub ID. The question is, is this a hardware, driver or software problem. - Hardware: (some) USB Root Hub chip might have a design flaw - Driver: the communication between the OS and hardware has some wrong code - Software: the OS is not correctly ID-ing the controllers I do not suspect the OS because then it would affect everyone. But if the problem is hardware or driver related chances are only some people are affected by it. Since most users have the wireless controllers the problem will go undetected for most of them. I knew some people who have 2 wireless and 2 wired controllers for the rare occasion they want to play 4 player games but not spend a lot of money on full price wireless controllers. If they encountered the problem, they probably figured out plugging in one at the front and one at the back solves the problem because welll... that's the first thing people try that when certain USB devices won't work. Maybe the problem can also be avoided by using an external USB hub. Especially if the problem is caused by some USB root hub flaw it might cause the external USB hub to report the correct USB ID's to the OS thus avoiding the bug.
Exactly the same problem! Thanks for showing it is not something dumb in setting up! Exchanged one of the controllers that were competing and now have 2 wired controllers that work
plus the usb for one of the controllers in the back of the console if not just use the wireless one and you might aswell just return or sell one of the wired controllers and get a recharge-able battery pack for the wireless controller if you dont want to keep buying batteries
maybe i know how, the 1st two controllers that you plugged in the front are player 1, the 2 controllers you plug in the BACK is player 2, maybe you need to plug 1 in the front and another in the back to play 2 players
Hi *Tried the 2 controllers at a friends house, it was the same sync problem. He had an older version of the dashboard but his xbox is the newer black one. ***NOTE that he had his own wired controller and THAT one put itself as "player number two" as it should. If we put our two controllers after his controller. our controllers fought over player 2 instead. *We went to the store and they had the same problem on their xbox. Just now we tried 2 controllers we changed in the store. Same problem!
I've bought 2 wired controllers and I have this problem as well, however I own 2 wired Xplorer guitars and they work just fine and also if I plug them into a PC they light up as Player 1 and Player 2 as they should and they work properly on the Xbox if plugged in with any other kind of controller.
i have the old Halo 3 one, i dont have any av/hdmi cables but i was just fucking with it and i turn it on and nothing but the green power button go's on but if i push sync then it does the circular motion with the green led but it dont recognize my afterglow xbox controller? do i need the av cables?
i do believe there is an issue with the batches and how they are setup to identify player 1, player 2, etc. they screwed it up and don't want to admit it. to prove this i took an older wired controller i had that i bought a couple years ago and changed out 1 of the 2 new wired controllers that i bought that were both fighting for player 1 and guess what happened? the older controller worked as player 2! unless there's some hack to fix this issue i don't think it's possible to fix the problem unless you are getting different controller batches
its because there both plugged in the same thing they both are player one so you only need to keep 2 wired controlers and plug one in the front and second in the back and have as many wired less as you want
Looks like the USB bus inside is not properly built.. Although they both have two ports in reality it is one port that is split... SMH.. Just a guess though could also be a programming thing...
its a bug in Microsoft's coding for wired controllers if you got four wireless controllers it would be fine but you will have to wait for a dash bored update
it might be defective some controllers may not respond as well as others or the fact that system it self has failure problems to it but I am just assuming that tho
Looks like the way the usb ports on the slim were connected to the motherboard only one cluster will accept a controller input. yes i know, obvious answer. but it means if you can replace the usb clusters and the problem persists then the motherboard is crap on all the slim's.
Ok today I got two new controlers from another store (the other 4 I bought last week had this exact problem in the vid) and THEY WORK as they should! So the only solution to this problem is = GET YOUR MONEY BACK, and buy from a different retailer and hope they have better ones.
When you use wired controllers its because the main controller, multiple wired remotes can't be used most of the time, for my xbox one x I use wired for my main and my wireless controller programs as 2 by signing in as guess or another xbox account, idk what I'm saying I'm bored of staying inside. 2020
Maby you need to set one of the controllers to player 2 manually. You can choose what controller should be witch player on ps3. I don't know about xbox360 though...
ive noticed the black wired controllers analog stick ruber is a lot thiner then some of the black wired controller .before i bought it from game the pic looked different same as amazon .see some black wired controllers the analog is ruber like the white wirelss pads and black wirelss pads i have 2 white wirelsss and black wirelss all had problems.the black wired pad is good but the analog stick has a thinner layer of ruber then other black pads seen and herts finger after a while .even
I really need some help. My wired controller has this problem where when one of the ends get shook or just moved, my controller disconnects. I don't want to open my controller or get a new one so someone give me an answer because i'm tired of playing with my other controller that has sticky analog sticks.
that problem tends to be a shortage/broken wire in the actual wire. i have the same problem and i am forced to tape the controllers wire in a certain place, just so it stays on.
Lo mas co.un en el error de los controles es que no tengan el mismo codigo de lote y que los numeros varien en 4 controles,lo mejor son los conttoles de cables no las por querias de pilas, pero siempre
I don't think its possible to have more than two wired controllers plugged in one the front and one in the back then again I use wireless controllers I'm not sure
my controllers say they are unplugged when they arent, and i just check the wiring and such, nothing wrong with the wiring, nothing wrong with the controller, and it will just shut down randomly and each time i plug it back in,it works for a minute, starts flickering, and shuts off
I know how to fix it. First you gotta get in a game then turn on the controller. It did the same thing to me at first but with one wired controller and one wireless. So I tried my two wired controller and it did the same thing. But now I can just turn them on and they work perfectly. It's like it takes time to get use to the other Xbox controller lol.
I think it's because the front is actually running of one USB port via a USB Hub so if you plug one in the front and one in the back your fine but if you have more then 2 controllers then your fucked
I have a rock candy controller for Xbox. Well I've played with it but I haven't played with it for a while until then after 3 months it stopped working. ( it was raped up for three months and my brother bought it two years ago).

2024 Hi!
This is happening to me when I try to play on pc with a controller. I’ll be playing and randomly it lights up as player two, and I can’t move or do anything.
Exact same thing with me
Me2
Same here
I have this problem to and i bougt 6 controllers from different stores and i found finally 2 controllers that works. The ser number must be different (the last 4 numbers) if they are the same it won't work. (Sorry for my bad english)
I'll try that! Thanks for sharing, you're a genius!!
I tried this and IT WORKS. I had two controllers with the same last 4 digits and the same Lot No. Went and got a third controller from a different lot/different 4 last digits and syncing is now without problems.. Microsoft must have screwed up in designing these controllers usb interface.

Doug de muro... Is that you bro
Bruh lmaooo
Lemaooooo
maybe if u bougth another 3 wirelles controlers and conect all of then. then u can buy another 2 360s, and 2 more tvs and it may get fix
n*gga you think he has that money?
Exactly the same problem! Thanks for showing it is not something dumb in setting up! Exchanged one of the controllers that were competing and now have 2 wired controllers that work
try pluging one in the back
the player 2 control only works when your playing a 2 player game any other time just the port 1 will work
plus the usb for one of the controllers in the back of the console if not just use the wireless one and you might aswell just return or sell one of the wired controllers and get a recharge-able battery pack for the wireless controller if you dont want to keep buying batteries
I'm having the same problem
zX SCOTTSTER Xz unplug one controller then plug the other one
Not working I'm having the same issue right now
Same I can’t get it to turn on
dude just plug 1 controller in the back and 1 in the front
What if you have 4 controllers
maybe i know how, the 1st two controllers that you plugged in the front are player 1, the 2 controllers you plug in the BACK is player 2, maybe you need to plug 1 in the front and another in the back to play 2 players
This 11 year old video has better quality than my cctv cameras

I have a problem that my wired controller didn't work well when I connect Ed to the Xbox 360 system.
i have the old Halo 3 one, i dont have any av/hdmi cables but i was just fucking with it and i turn it on and nothing but the green power button go's on but if i push sync then it does the circular motion with the green led but it dont recognize my afterglow xbox controller? do i need the av cables?
Did MS cut your video short or did you?
i do believe there is an issue with the batches and how they are setup
to identify player 1, player 2, etc. they screwed it up and don't want
to admit it. to prove this i took an older wired controller i had that i
bought a couple years ago and changed out 1 of the 2 new wired

unless there's some hack to fix this issue i don't think it's possible to fix the problem unless you are getting different controller batches
I have try it you can use 4 controller with 4 player.
I just sign in before put the wired controller.
I like your GameCube game collection.
WHERE DO YOU PLUG IT!!!!
Amy Sim IKR
I think you buy a cord
in the back?
Usb ports
Doug DeMuro is that you?
ZyklonHuffer it does look like him
my (wireless) controller won't connect, so i want to plug my controller. how do i do that? what kind of plug does it take
just 'plug it lightly' but 'Not all they way plugged on' works like a charm
How do you connect the wired ones, I can't find where to put it
its because there both plugged in the same thing they both are player one so you only need to keep 2 wired controlers and plug one in the front and second in the back and have as many wired less as you want
plug one in the front and one in the back
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE PIECE WHERE HE CONECT A PIECE TO THE XBOX AND THE CONTROLLER
So have you found a solution for this? I am having the same problem.
What I would do is
1.Turn the Xbox on
2.Plug the first controller in.
3.Then plug the second controller in then it should work
when you replaced the controllers for new ones did it cost money
Looks like the USB bus inside is not properly built.. Although they both have two ports in reality it is one port that is split... SMH.. Just a guess though could also be a programming thing...
he changed the box member
Hey !! I'm french and i have exactly the same problem ! i will send my xbox to the after sales service.
Do you find a solution ?
its a bug in Microsoft's coding for wired controllers if you got four wireless controllers it would be fine but you will have to wait for a dash bored update
it might be defective some controllers may not respond as well as others or the fact that system it self has failure problems to it but I am just assuming that tho
reassign the first controller to player 2
I just bought rock candy for Xbox 360 and it won't even turn on
Looks like the way the usb ports on the slim were connected to the motherboard only one cluster will accept a controller input. yes i know, obvious answer. but it means if you can replace the usb clusters and the problem persists then the motherboard is crap on all the slim's.
It must be your outlet... I don't know HOW an outlet could cause this, but it's really the only constant between both xbox's and all controllers.
Ok today I got two new controlers from another store (the other 4 I bought last week had this exact problem in the vid) and THEY WORK as they should! So the only solution to this problem is = GET YOUR MONEY BACK, and buy from a different retailer and hope they have better ones.

where did you get the wired controllers
Maby you need to set one of the controllers to player 2 manually. You can choose what controller should be witch player on ps3. I don't know about xbox360 though...
why do u need two controllers simple fix leavevthe good controller in take day
To play with his friends probably
This keeps happening to me!
ive noticed the black wired controllers analog stick ruber is a lot thiner then some of the black wired controller .before i bought it from game the pic looked different same as amazon .see some black wired controllers the analog is ruber like the white wirelss pads and black wirelss pads i have 2 white wirelsss and black wirelss all had problems.the black wired pad is good but the analog stick has a thinner layer of ruber then other black pads seen and herts finger after a while .even
Anyone knows what the little bumps on the cords are for?
only 1 will work in the menu screen an in the menu of games. if the 2 or more controllers are plugged in they will all have control.
when I put my controller into my xbox 360 it shuts off every time.
same here it blinks once or twice then shuts off like it has no power
Aaron I had the same problem.
I still have the same problem.
try getting new xbox + new controllers without plugging the old controllers into the new xbox
I really need some help. My wired controller has this problem where when one of the ends get shook or just moved, my controller disconnects. I don't want to open my controller or get a new one so someone give me an answer because i'm tired of playing with my other controller that has sticky analog sticks.
found a fix yet?
that problem tends to be a shortage/broken wire in the actual wire. i have the same problem and i am forced to tape the controllers wire in a certain place, just so it stays on.
Solution: get 8 controllers have them all conect and you will have 4 connected........Nailed it
Can u send me one of the controller my broke 😅😅😅😅
No
That's an advantage, since you don't want noobs playing with your, let's say friends list, even if all controllers say 'player 1'.
someone help me i lost the bit for the wired controller that connects to the controller and the xbox someone please tell me what it is called
Plug 1 in on the front and one on the back
Those controller are gold nowadays. There are no original Xbox360 for sale, anyware.
I'm having the same problem but I only have ONE CONTROLLER it says its player 2 and when it is on player 1 it works but any other and it won't work
My controller wont connect to the xbox and it wired?
same
Me to
Same
Same
Because they are the same kind of controller
If you Buy a new one But diffrent kind it will work
I HAVE the some problem too
Lo mas co.un en el error de los controles es que no tengan el mismo codigo de lote y que los numeros varien en 4 controles,lo mejor son los conttoles de cables no las por querias de pilas, pero siempre
I don't think its possible to have more than two wired controllers plugged in one the front and one in the back then again I use wireless controllers I'm not sure
I also have this issue thnks for the video
you can also plug 3 remotes in and then unplug one of the player 1s and voila
I know they are the same so identical they mirror each get a new wired controller but of a different brand or shape
can i connect ordinary controller to xbox 360
That is really weird. Never heard of this problem.
It’s because the other controller is player 2 player 1 is the one that can only control
I'm having the same problem and I am so mad :(
One side is for a USB for more storage
my controllers say they are unplugged when they arent, and i just check the wiring and such, nothing wrong with the wiring, nothing wrong with the controller, and it will just shut down randomly and each time i plug it back in,it works for a minute, starts flickering, and shuts off
What I mean is I plugged my xbox controller and it doesn't work on the front or back and it's a wired controller
Did you ever get it to work
I know how to fix it. First you gotta get in a game then turn on the controller. It did the same thing to me at first but with one wired controller and one wireless. So I tried my two wired controller and it did the same thing. But now I can just turn them on and they work perfectly. It's like it takes time to get use to the other Xbox controller lol.
that explains why i cant find any freakin wired controllers cause the've been sold out everywhere, YOU BOUGHT THEM ALL! :oo
You can't have two of them playing as player 1 because it doesn't work that way.
just happened to me randomly after 50 hours stuck on player 2 even though im on pc
its probably the coding for the remotes beging recived by the xbox
is there now a solution to this ?
Can I have one if you haven't sold them?
I think it's because the front is actually running of one USB port via a USB Hub so if you plug one in the front and one in the back your fine but if you have more then 2 controllers then your fucked
my xbox 360 wired controller have noise
Maybe your house was built next to a rift in time and space?
has anyone found a solution to this
Why did u need 3 controllers in the first place
The thing is I have a circle USB but there's no circle port in my Xbox 360 ;-;
I have a rock candy controller for Xbox. Well I've played with it but I haven't played with it for a while until then after 3 months it stopped working. ( it was raped up for three months and my brother bought it two years ago).
Mine stopped working after 6 months....and I have a purple rock candy controller.
Mine stopped working yesterday but i have been using it for 3 years
MY Wired Controller does work but Sometimes push the two joy sticks and it WiLL cut on but now it Don't
Mine keep turning off and they're wired controllers
mine is the same
Me too
any fixes?
But mine controller does not have usb type plug in
i had the same problem then one day I came home and my lil brother was playing then I asked how did you fix it then they said Fixed what soooooooo I got my stuff fixed
Try unplugging one and if that doesn't work then I have no idea what's wrong
My sons just started flashing and it goes off and doesn't work now ffs
I sense poltergeist activity in the background 😅 Its 2018 now.
Ur here from a day ago o_o
yup haha biggest year gap
where have in the same thing except it won't move on the screen
Make a profile for each go to a game with split screen game and it will be normal.........
Start the Xbox with only one controller plugger in then plug in the other one
I'm in chatt with support soon about this :P I'll see what they have to say soon.
can you do a vid of a ps3 controller plz that just beps
