I have driven all across the country Phoenix to new York, but like 5 years ago I started feeling anxious when a road trip was approaching I mean Phoenix to San Diego some 600 miles round trip, now I still get on the highway but the shortest the trip the better I haven't had a road trip in a few years, I'm 55 so I'm not too old I see older people driving on the freeway, my mouth gets dry and I find myself holding the steering wheel too tight. If you find something helpful let me know, some people say meditation and breathing exercises help, I try but the anxiety this causes on my body is stronger than me trying to relax. Good luck every one.

I don't know when I started developing this fear. I use to cruise on the highway with no problem. As soon as I get on the highway, my palms get clammy, my throat feels like its shutting on me, and I get terrify feeling like I'm trap between two fast vehicles. Driving on the left lane is a no for me, and I used to do it with no problem. I want to take trips with no problem and not feel this fear any longer.
I've been dealing with highway driving anxiety for 16 years it just happened all of a sudden I used to drive trucks everywhere but now I'm limited. When I'm in the left lane I start to feel trapped and the anxiety flares up. So I move over to the far right lane. I practice, but I'm just not the driver I used to be and it's depressing.
I have more of a city driving anxiety than highway anxiety. When I first got my driver's license, I went to see my parents and drove about 15 hours straight with very few stops. It was great, other than roundabouts and such that confused me since I never drove around city or state limits. I even took wrong turns, but luckily Waze helped me.

My anxiety is how most people go 20+ miles over the speed limit. It's already nerve wracking to go a posted speed limit of 75mph, but then the majority are going 95mph+ and I can't stand it. There's a lot of chatter online like "people are so slow on the highway, if you're gonna be slow stay right!!!!" YEAH but I'm going 75mph in the right lane and it's still not fast enough for these people. Excuse me but I drive a Chevy Trax, not a Corvette lmao

I’m looking at soo many videos to get over my anxiety. I got my license today (I was so excited I drove to work on the highway alone, no problems). However, leaving work I was trying to merge on the highway and no one would let me merge, forcing me to take another road to exit. Any suggestions about extreme anxiety driving on over passes or over things like water? But mainly over tall over passes? How do you practice because you can’t get on an overpass for a short time. Once you get on, you have to finish.
That's my problem :(. I have to avoid them and panic when I think one is coming up. After driving 40 years, it just started happening to me after I moved to Texas, where the overpasses are ridiculously high.
@@TimSchmidt_art Yes, I live in Texas as well! And this was not an issue for me until my 30's. I was the same way! Drove everywhere then all of a sudden I had one panic attack on the freeway and couldn't shake it each time I got on. My mom and aunt had the same issue. When my mom died I suddenly developed her condition. I think panic attacks are deeper unresolved and unrelated issues that need to be addressed but sometimes you simply just need to get on the freeway and only hope to deal with those bigger problems later. I began to think "How did I become such a bad driver that caused me to have panic attacks" when it was the opposite: I would have a panic attack before I got on the freeway which caused me to pull over and do side streets. I have never been a bad driver. If you can breathe from your stomach and not let the panic attack happen and control it it does work. The attack fades. And one day you are back on the road and it all comes back and muscle memory and common sense comes back. However some days are better than others. Too much coffee and lack of sleep will not help. But you can control the panic attack better than you think! Especially since you have driven on freeways before. Control your breathing, control the attack, you got this.

It is ridiculous. I'm pissed and haven't found a way to get over it and I'm a fearless type of guy. I never believed in anxiety, thought it was bullshit...still struggling and keeping it a secret because I feel like a pussy.
Been having this problem for so long I keep getting on the freeway getting off & practicing and it doesn’t get better. I have so much fear I cannot even get on anymore. It’s the only thing in life that I can’t overcome. I’m not sure how this anxiety started
take control of your life good way to start look at it like this you have to get on the highway to practice your skill of blind spots, blinkers, merging, braking, traffic, rain, being tired and more to use as a defense to your fears
Moved to PNW from the MidWest and loved highway driving; even drove across the USA and back, but one day 20 years ago, my brain broke going down a (familiar) mountain. The triple trailer trucks, and flying down that mountain in a 90s version Dodge van totally freaked me out to the point where I had to get off at a rest stop and force myself to keep going and get home. I found that if forced, I really am nervous and play loud music like The Dude in his Torino to pump myself to get on the 5. But the scenery is very distracting and if the car ahead of me dips down a hill, I feel as though I am going to fly away. You are correct, just thinking about driving the interstate makes me sweat and have palpitations!
i live in Massachusetts. we truly have the worst drivers in the country. i had a car accident in 2018. i wasnt seriously hurt. it wasnt my fault but it haunted me for 3 years. i am just starting to drive on starter highways now just still scared to get back on 93. its the other people. its almost like they know i have PTSD. i am getting slowly better each day but am still very anxious.
I get anxiety on highways thinking about other anxiety attacks I had on the highway. It's like i'll be good, then my mind takes me there. I feel like i'm about to lose control...it's so scary.
@@cherries4376 I actually overcame this once and the highway become my favorite. Then it just came back and i've been struggling since and I avoid the highway as much as possible 😩
I am doing the same , in Australia we use left lane for slow vehicles .. I merge on freeway (hardest part for me atm), stay there for 10 minutes and take the first exit. I have to take a freeway again to come back to my home so it’s almost 20 mins on a highway to gather. Feels very scary but have done it twice now so will keep doing it for 3-4 times more and then will increase the time .
This was a great video I just have one suggestion, I'm not trying to mean I'm just being honest. When you're doing a video about anxiety could you speak a little slower and also lower your voice a bit?
Wish my driving instructor was thinking like this. We just went on the motorway first time when I only ever used 40 and he wanted me to go 70 mph first time which meant overtaking as well. My heart was jumping out 😂
The problem with that anxiety highway issue is that not everybody can see the signs on the highway and especially at traveling 70 mi an hour some people simply avoided like my safe I'd rather be safe than risk it
I just made 10 hr interstate trip and drove fine but absolutely hate it .It’s not so much that I’m scared I just get frustrated on interstates in Atlanta , Chattanooga, and many others .. I’m ok with 3or 4 lanes but when you start getting into 6or 8 lanes it’s just not for me . Knowing that if you hv a problem your basically screwed especially if your traveling with children . Also so many people driving these days are absolute degenerates riding your ass at 85 /90 mph and obviously hv no respect for human lift and should not be allowed to drive .. I’m basically done with it . I moved to the gulf just so I don’t hv to be in a bigger city . If I have to travel from now on I’ll fly or take a boat there . If everyone would realize the danger , be more patient and drive no faster than 75-80 mph leave several car spaces between cars while driving the interstates would be a much a safer situation but I know that’s not the situation we live in .
I avoid the freeway like the plague. I don’t think it’s a phobia because it’s really dangerous and scary. If the speed limit is 65 people go 80 mph or higher, one person screws up and it will set off a horrible chain reaction, you are literally riding a bullet. on the street at the worst I will go into a house. I do not agree that the freeway is safer
When I drive in the right side of the highway. I Hate when a humongous ass WHALE(semi truck)speeds pass me. I freak out because I’m going at regular speed. The the semi has a loud noise and then flys past me. I fire it feels like every time
The way this guy talks is giving anxiety . Like he’s pumped up with caffeine or a stimulant. Your talking to highly anxious people in a frantic state yelling basically . Relax more while doing videos like this buddy .

@@samuelcarrillohenao3401 thank you for the information 😁
@pavel mihai thank you I am going to purchase it and see if it works I’m hoping it does because I’m tired of being stuck !!!!!!
@@kimhart8268 thank you sooo much for the encouragement you are soooo right I just need to get out there even if I am fearful !!! I also don't like the drives in the city I live in . I keep finding reasons to not do it I have to do it for me !!!!!!
Damn thats a panic inducing voice
The pitch and volume of that voice has just increasedmy anxiety 😳
Thank you for this! I hope you are feeling better :) HEYYYY EVERYBODY!!!!!
My only problemoo on freeway , // truck driving next to me and looking ahead. // nerve shak
Never had it...drive through the mountains when I was younger with no issues...than one day I was driving across a big bridge and I had a melt down...and that has affected me for the last 10 years. It is ridiculous. I'm pissed and haven't found a way to get over it and I'm a fearless type of guy. I never believed in anxiety, thought it was bullshit...still struggling and keeping it a secret because I feel like a pussy.
Oh your not alone dude! Your not a sissy, your brain is playing a trick on you!
Been having this problem for so long I keep getting on the freeway getting off & practicing and it doesn’t get better. I have so much fear I cannot even get on anymore. It’s the only thing in life that I can’t overcome. I’m not sure how this anxiety started
I feel you brother
Me too. I'm going to try hypnosis we have to keep trying everything until something finally works
you not alone trust me
@Ms Gem yep i'm missing out on a lot of cash due to this
take control of your life good way to start look at it like this you have to get on the highway to practice your skill of blind spots, blinkers, merging, braking, traffic, rain, being tired and more to use as a defense to your fears
It's kinda like working your way up on wearing heels. Start with the lower heel and work your way up to the 5 or 6 inches until you got it.
Im going to drive 3 hours trip tomorrow and still having driving anxiety. Wish me luck.
I'm suffering from this right now. Not sure how I got to this point.. kinda resurfaced last year riding uber in the back seat and today while driving
i live in Massachusetts. we truly have the worst drivers in the country. i had a car accident in 2018. i wasnt seriously hurt. it wasnt my fault but it haunted me for 3 years. i am just starting to drive on starter highways now just still scared to get back on 93. its the other people. its almost like they know i have PTSD. i am getting slowly better each day but am still very anxious.
I get anxiety on highways thinking about other anxiety attacks I had on the highway. It's like i'll be good, then my mind takes me there. I feel like i'm about to lose control...it's so scary.
Me too. 😔
Just listening to this gave me a feeling of panic. I could barely even finish the video. I will never travel and drive on highways, I give up
i j wanted to let u know that i’m from the us and i’m doing my 6 hours rn and this helped me calm down a little thank you
That's me I'm so scared to drive in highway because everyone in Phoenix AZ drive like crazy imagine the road so wide and it has 6 lanes.
Im in Phoenix also and the traffic has gotten worse.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this problem. Lord please help me 🙏
Thank you so much for these videos. Your videos have made me more confident and the encouragement led me to but my first car and release my fears.
First time driving in highway todsy, I wish I watched this first. Because I was so scared and also trouble centering the car at the same time
Wish my driving instructor was thinking like this. We just went on the motorway first time when I only ever used 40 and he wanted me to go 70 mph first time which meant overtaking as well. My heart was jumping out 😂
I live in California where the highway average speed is 85 mph noooo tHANKS
85!!!!!! WHAT
In Germany people go up to 111mph and higher 😬
😳😳😳
I know. I had the worst experience just two days ago getting onto the 91 freeway.
This sounds really helpful!! Thank you so much.
Dude, your volume is giving me anxiety!
Was thinking the same thing. I'm too relaxed for this guy. 😂
always helpful info thank you so much
I avoid the freeway like the plague.
As a chronic anxiety sufferer, I'm afraid of long distance driving.
When I drive in the right side of the highway. I Hate when a humongous ass WHALE(semi truck)speeds pass me. I freak out because I’m going at regular speed. The the semi has a loud noise and then flys past me. I fire it feels like every time
I was a very confident driver until I changed cars now I have this sickening feeling of loosing control of the car.
I drive in the Highway in PR but here I start crying and shaking uncontrollably.
Yo también
The way this guy talks is giving anxiety . Like he’s pumped up with caffeine or a stimulant. Your talking to highly anxious people in a frantic state yelling basically . Relax more while doing videos like this buddy .
Why are you yelling at me 😔
heyyy evriboooooooodiiiiiiiiiiiyyyiiimm here today to tell you...
Oh my god my ears
Speed limits in Canada are slower, I’d probably do better up there.
I’m afraid of the high bridges
Helpful thank you 😊
I gotta take my cat to the vet today and the route recommended requires me to be on the highway for 10 minutes 😅😭💀
Trying to to stop having reaal bad anxiety on the highways as a driver and a passenger. Always had anxiety while going fast... have to do it because my gf wants to drive to her family, which is 2 states away, for Thanksgiving. Told me to "be a man" and "buck up."
Good times....
i've driven on the highway once but my driving instructor had to take over because i felt like i was gonna faint... now i'm more scared that i'm gonna faint and crash than actually driving ahh
Thank you
I have to drive on the highway for a new job but I’m gonna quit
Its because of the loud noises and big trucks
Thanku bro for help
I appreciate the video but.... Why is he yelling?
I feel like such a pussy. I can do the highway fine but the merging onto my anxiety is so bad. The merge lane is so small here by Chicago with lots of cars in the next lane. I hate this feeling.
I'm trying to build up to get on now. I have to throw up 🤢😥
I’m scared of curve😢
The thing is there's many other cars driving along with you..
Heeeeeeeyyyyyyyy Everybodyyyyyyyyyyiiiiiii
Helpful
I hoped for a lowest enthusiasm video celebrating the april's fools day.
I hate driving on the highway because I live in georgia lol
Lol I live in Georgia too and I hate Atlanta drivers 😩
Same here
Jax this is for you 🤭😁
very nibr
Why are you yelling? 😅
Info was helpful, but him practically screaming at you the whole time was very unsettling.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
