Oh man, this video brings back memories. I used to be a lab tech at the Mall of America LensCrafters many years ago. I logged a lot of hours on a machine like that. We were one of the first stores to switch from the liquid metal blocking to the liquid plastic. It was a disaster...lots of memories there.
@@hoangpham7371 I used to be able to surface and finish a pair of CR-39s in half an hour. Really miss those days. Moved to the UK where in-store labs don't surface 😪
@tsgillespiejr 15 minutes was my all-time best, from surface to finish! I worked for LC as well, back when you'd get your glasses for free if we didn't make them in 59 minutes or less. Those were the days!😂😅
I worked in one of the biggest independent wholesale optical labs in the US for about 15 years. That Coburn 113 brings back some memories. We were running 700 pair a day [plastic] through that lab. Started out cutting tools on that 302 tool cutter.
slipbyu2 Funny, because those old school generators are probably completely non existent. So my coworkers 10-15 yrs of experience on those sadly became useless. Also those patterned edgers. I tell ya
This was oldschool back then? I started in optics in '09 at Lenscrafters, and we were still using a CT-113! I loved that thing though, a lot more than the 2G.
I started optical in '93 but was an Op tech. I was working for Opti World and they made plastic and glass. Well we got bought out by Lenscrafters in '95 and that's when I started working in the lab. LC didn't run glass in house, instead they ran poly. So this is how I never worked with glass. I'm still doing lab work.
Gilbert Arciniega Filling in for people on vacation...I've torched some arm hair a few times grinding those glass lenses. When you heared that squeal... you knew the fire was soon to come !!! LMAO !!!

Wow! Thanks for posting this! I worked as a technician for an optical company in central california. This brought back some good memories.
Thank you for uploading the video. Bring back good memories. I Operated 113HW Coburn generator .
It's a trip. Because all the experience I have on that machine. It's totally useless today in 2021

We used this machine until early 2016.
Sería interesante ver el mismo laboratorio hoy en día!!
I was working in optical back then. Still am. I used to use a generator very similar to that. I never cut glass though.
Very interesting! BOY, my boss used to get on me everytime I break a lens! Of course glass is so fragile

How you calculate the prism you need to apply??
Our software calculated prism and told us what prism ring to use 😳
You could repair the weber tool by the Coburn Gnreter
Fiber or plastic
