TED-Ed My solution is similar to Michael from V-Sauses solution to his number game. You drain 1 level, then compliment NIM's moves. Works everytime.
TED-Ed could u plz elaborate the second riddle. A square from the bar can be any single piece or the four rhs pieces taken together? Is there any another possibility.
Back when I was a child and used to watch a television show called cyberchase, they had an episode with a premise that was very nearly identical to this, with alternating sides able to take a certain number of dragons and the goal was to not be the side that ended up with 1 dragon, which was coloured red, with the others coloured green.

Maybe because NIM won't know you're in there until you lower the water level.
Step 1: figure out why nim can only lower the water level by 1, 3, or 4.
In the wise words of Lazarbeam
"My god, why haven't we thought of this before"
I might have the quote slightly wrong.
Maybe because just like AM, despite all of the AI's power and knowledge there are aspects of its programming it will never be able to truly shake off.
2 is just 1 and 1, and it’s not like NIM’s programmed with the concept of sportsmanship
then you go to the third position from disky disk A and select the Noether 9000 and buttons D and E to destroy the laser robot ants and cut the antidote into fifths and use parity to find out what place your in and what hat you are currently wearing with a 10% false positive rate then you get silver by moving counterclockwise then go to locker 64 to find out who ate which crystal then go in groups and add 5 and 7 and square root to escape with 60 bees and at least 16/30 rubies (marking the heavier ones with a +) on planet 3 and after all of that you have to question my sanity, and the answer is ozo.

This reminds me of the one episode on CyberChase when they're playing a game with Hacker where they have to take with them either 1,2, or 3 dragons and whoever is left with the red dragon loses
There’s a game I used to play exactly like this, but the little difference is that instead of water levels it’s a flower’s petals, you can take away up to 3 of them or pass your turn (the least possible is taking 1 off and passing the turn), and the person that would take the last petal off would either win a point or loose one, depending on the AI’s randomized choice.

For the bonus riddle, eat the top right square
In the example of the 2x3 bar, your opponent has a few options after this:
Take the top left -> you take the bottom middle and force them to the last
Take the top middle -> take the bottom right, leaving your opponent in the same state as if they took bottom right.
Take the bottom middle -> take the only available square, top left
Take the bottom right ->take the top middle so that they're forced to one square of two safe ones
Edit:
As a general rule for all scenarios avoid giving your opponent a 1*n bar remainder. If you can do this, it insures that your opponent doesn't make any deadly moves. The killing blow is getting your opponent into a 2*2 L shape (with the top right missing) so they have to give you 1*2

There's a big difference (try solving this one with NIM's strategy -- you can't).
NIM has moves 1, 2, 3. You can complement your opponents move to always make your moves add up to 4. (He goes 1, you go 3. He goes 2, you go 2. He goes 3, you go 1).
You can't do that here, and that makes this harder than the NIM game. Here you need specific moves for different water levels.
It’s literally the name of the AI
a person who doesnt rig their riddles. this species is on the edge of extinction
What stops me from just jumping on NIM when nim decides to reduce it
I remember a riddle like this in Cyberchase. It had to deal with dragons, red and green. They had to choose the correct number of green dragons, choosing 3, 2, or 1 at a time. The goal was to not get stuck with the red dragon at the end. It was a good episode. 😊
Me too.
There’s a game we played in school called 21. You start at zero and you can either say 1,2 or 3. You lose if you say 21, a number other than the ones stated or if you hesitate for too long.
Almost instantly people figured out if you keep saying three eventually someone will have to say two and the next person will lose. We used this game to decide which of two people won. But the flaw was that if you started off and said 3, you would win. It’s the same thing here.
That game is easy, just say 4-whatever they said
That's not entirely true to be fair. If your opponent understands nim, they would add 2 making it 5 and then the person who said 3 loses everytime.
If you wanna test it, I'll play with you.
@@Ninguin 3
@@bobartbones7957 I add 1, and win. The 2nd player always wins this.
Think of it this way: If my opponent is at 20, they lose, as they can only choose 1 and get to 21. So I can just pair you off as multiples of 4, always leaving you on your way to 20. If you choose 1 or 3 I choose the other one, and if you choose 2 I choose 2. So your turn is at 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and finally your last turn at 20.
NIM obviously calculated every scenario and would have it set up so you couldn't go 1st.
Or just allow lowering 2 stories. That would let NIM win 100% of the time by just playing to multiples of 5.
All of a sudden, my memories of the Water Temple in Ocarina of time come flooding back to me.
Chocolate bar riddle: we will label the top left piece "1" and name it from primarily left to right, then top to bottom.
Solution:
Start by taking piece 3.
The opponent will take either 1 and 2, pieces 2, 5, and 6, piece 2, or piece 6.
Scenario 1: Pieces 1 and 2
Your opponent will take 1 and 2. Now pieces 1, 2, and 3 are gone. Now take 5 and 6 off. Now the only piece(s) they can eat are piece 4, which will let you win the game, leaving your opponent poisoned.
Scenario 2: Pieces 2, 5, and 6
Your opponent took pieces 2, 5, and 6. Just take piece 1 and you will leave your opponent piece 4, which will let you win the game, leaving your opponent poisoned.
Scenario 3: Piece 2
Your opponent has taken piece 2. Now take piece 6. They can now only take piece 1 or 5.
Scenario 3a: Piece 1
Now, the opponent took piece 1 in this duel. Take piece 5, and leave your opponent with piece four, which will let you win the game, leaving your opponent poisoned.
Scenario 3b: Piece 5
Your opponent has chosen piece 5. Take piece 1, which will leave the opponent with piece 4, letting you win the game, leaving your opponent poisoned.
Scenario 4: Piece 6
Your opponent has take piece 6. Now, you must take piece 2, leaving you and your opponent to be in the same position as in 3a and 3b.

Fun Fact: NIM is a popular Mathematical game From the 1900's that involves players taking turns drawing a curtain number of objects from a pile of them. For example, one player takes 1 and the other player takes 2 and vice-versa and vice-versa. Whoever takes the last item wins the game. The main trick to winning is to go first if theirs an even number of items in the pile.

The chocolate squares one is a piece of cake compared to the main riddle of the video. The longer the series of moves the more mind numbing the task becomes and I didn't get far enough into the "losing floor/winning floor" strategy to recognize the pattern. However, with the chocolate squares you just take the top right and force them to let you corner them
skilled enough? To press a button? Alright
I remember playing a game at school where you could say 1-3 digits in a row before passing your turn and whoever got to the chosen number loses. Everyone made up that strategy to get specific people out
Take the top right corner off.
Then, you can always give them the skull piece.
For the chocolate bar, I am assuming you can only eat rectangles (not rectangles with a missing square) only eat the top right corner, afterwards, no matter the choose, the opponent can only eat the top 2 or bottom right single square. Afterward, either the entire bottom would remain (where you eat the last safe squares) or a 2x2 squares remain (where you eat a single square and put the opponent in a loosing position.)
No
If you do, your opponent could eat the two middle squares, leaving you in a losing position.
Pikafan16543 If your opponent breaks off the middle two pieces after you break off the top right corner, then that means the lower rightmost piece is also broken off the bar as a consequence, making the move illegitimate.
ByteKnight Thank you.
Darkking Ice well according to the narrator and the video that is not a valid move as it is impossible to just break of the top corner square so no with the rules given as the riddle is told your take on the solution is therefore invalid. Especially considering IF the opponent in your example were to take the middle 2,5 you lose either way making it a not so excellent strategy.
And no, breaking of a corner square wouldn’t leave a rectangle to begin with so IF you allow that move then opponent would be allowed to take 2,5 and you lose.
Or he would simply take only square 1 or 6 and win as i already explained how.

That can be all well and good, but "creative" riddles can end up like the wizard tourney one, where the answer lies in something you have no idea you can do, and is so open-ended that you have no reason to solve it the way it's intended.
alien hat is the best

Me: NOOOOOO THIS IS TOOO COMPLICATED
This is literally the Doctor Nim game! Nice reference, and a good riddle.
i already knew this riddle, but you put a nice twist on it eliminating 2, and i like how you explained the answer
OMG! I remember doing this for a PE game at my elementary school! It was called "21" because whoever said the number 21 first won. You could add either 1, 2, or 3. I don't remember exactly how I figured it out, but there were a row of certain numbers you had to say to win. If even a single one wasn't said, the other person would be able to say it, and that made me afraid they would win. The big thing is that if you didn't go first and the other person said a number where you couldn't say the next, you would lose. I taught it to all my friends. If you started first, the numbers were 1-5-9-13-17-21 because then even if the person knew about the trick, the best they could do to try and escape would be say 2-6-10-14- and, if they are forced to the 18 point, they have already lost. Whoever said 18 always lost. But, if you went second, it was the same thing. The only problem is wether or not the starter says 1. If they say one, you have to keep attempting to say one of the next numbers, if you are unable to and you reach the 17 point, you have already lost. I don't know how I figured it out, but this reminded me of it so much! You see, if I say "1" then your only options are 2-3-4. Then, if I say "5" your only options are 6-7-8. Then, I say 9, you say either 10-11-13. Finally, I say 17. The big change is that instead of going 1 ahead, you have to remember to go 3 ahead. When you reach the 17 point they can only say 18-19- or 20 as their last turn. You then have an easy win.
wow this is the most thought ive ever given to one of these riddles and i still didn't know the answer but i did get one part right which was you have to lower the water level to 21 on your first turn which is more than ive gotten right on any other riddles
I have yet to be able to any of these on my own BUT now that I know how to solve the problems, I've been able to solve similar riddles in D&D and other situations! ❤❤
Why not park your raft over the AI so that when the water drains, you're on top of it? Or jumping out just as the AI sucks all the water out?
madcat789 Because that's not the point of the riddle
The AI will pull you to either side by changing which duct pulls out the water.
you don't have a paddle, and the water is electrified so you can't control where your raft should be
why not destroy the building?
Why not just throw the remote at the manual override once you reach a low enough water level to reach it, might be hard to throw it through water, and nim could make it flow a different way by lowering water levels, but whether you make it 0 or nim does there would be nothing but air stopping it from hitting the manual override. Alternatively, since he can only make it lower in turn, figure out where the override would be when you get close, throw the remote so it would land on it, since you haven't lowered the water level yet it would slowly float down onto the button.
Okay, this riddle was actually very good :)
This puzzle came out when I just started college....great memories❤
Nailed it. Took me a solid 15 minutes but it was totally worth it. God I love this riddles
You don't want to start at levels 0, 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, because whatever choice you make, Nim will lower your level to one of these floors. Since you start at level 25 you can win from Nim. When it's your turn to decide, you always lower yourself to one of those levels (0, 2, 7, ..., 23). When you do that, Nim will not be able to lower you to those levels.
An example where Nim tries to prolong the inevitable:
You: -4 (= 21)
Nim: -1 (= 20)
You: -4 (= 16)
Nim: -1 (= 15)
You: -1 (= 14)
Nim: -1 (= 13)
You: -4 (= 9)
Nim: -1 (= 8)
You: -1 (= 7)
Nim: -1 (= 6)
You: -4 (= 2)
Nim: -1 (= 1)
You: -1 (= 0)
An example where you can choose between two levels:
You: -4 (= 21)
Nim: -4 (= 17)
You: -3 (= 14) ( or -1 (= 16) )
Nim: -4 (= 10)
You: -3 (= 7) ( or -1 (= 9) )
Nim: -4 (= 3)
You: -3 (= 0) ( or -1 (= 2) )
Bonus Riddle:
Force your opponent to start with either one of these chocolate shapes:
x

TheRMeerkerk Very well educated.
0:51 MISSION FAILED WE'LL GET EM NEXT TIME
I beaten the bonus riddle, first, start with the top right piece, then two options open up, if your opponent takes the bottom two that aren’t poisonous, then you take the two remaining that aren’t poisonous. But what happens if your opponent just takes the bottom right piece? Then you take the top middle, then your opponent takes one of the two remaining pieces not poisoned, you take the last remaining not poisonous piece and win.
I just mapped out every situation possible in my head idk why you guys didn't
