Impressive how quickly development is advancing on this and other Orange Pi projects! I'm beginning to seriously consider an Orange Pi 5 now. The SHARE directory being locked is probably a user permission issue. Drop to the terminal and do an "ls -l -d /media/PI/SHARE/roms/" (I'm expecting you'll see "root root" just to the right of the permissions). If it does say "root" instead of your login, then run "sudo chown -R [your login ID] /media/Pi/SHARE/roms/" to gain access to it. After the chown command, run the above ls command again to confirm your user ID has replaced "root" and that you see the "w" (write) permission included. Then you won't need to run your file manager as superuser anymore. I'm assuming it's just a minor development oversight and they'll probably have it fixed in upcoming download release.
Awesome work by the community to have so many options supported so early after release and I'm confident we will see this chip released in a few handheld devices later this year as with Android its great at emulating more demanding systems... Keep up the great work Lee!
The pace of community development for the Pi 5 is amazing and I am looking forward to testing these builds later in the week. PS. Thanks to a post on the Orange Pi forums by user jgon, there is now also a FydeOS Beta for the Pi 5 (and Rock5B/Firefly models).
Hello Lee. I tested the Batocera-dev images from 01/24/23 (Rock 5B with dtb from Orange Pi5) and the Jelos image from 01/26/23 on SD Card and both worked, on an Orange Pi 5 with 16 GB of RAM. However, I found that the Batocera image lacks the heaviest systems such as PS2, Xbox, etc. But all the systems that exist have worked very well. As for JELOS, I couldn't configure the sound (I tried several changes) and only systems with flycast (Atomiswave, DreamCast, Naomi) and PSP and PSP minis worked. No other system worked even though I changed the emulators. I produced an amateur video, which is on my channel. (I used google translate)

Came here to just say Batocera now have an official build on their website. I've used it and jelos... I'd say jelos is still better but I'm gonna use Batocera instead now....
Biggest difference is Batocera supported my controller on the front end where jelos didn't (reason for the swap), and GameCube emulation....
Jelos runs fine but has slowdown. Batocera runs at full frame rate but will freeze up on videos and gameplay now and again to catch up on processing. Pick your poison I guess.
Oh and jelos has Atari Jaguar emulation, Batocera doesn't.
Has anybody got a batocera build working on their pi 5 other than on this video? I've been using jelos a bit now (and they have stable builds too). Its *this* close to sorted, I just can't get any wireless controls working on the emulationstation menu, and I've tried a number of controllers now.
late reply, but I just used it with a 8BitDO Pro2 wired via usb-c. worked instantly. Do you know how I can add roms?
Hi there. I've just bought my orange pi 5 board and it would be great to have Batocera on it. I tried creating a SD card with those images using etcher, but I only get a black screen when I try to boot it. Am I missing something?
Others have had problems with larger ram OPi5’s

I was looking at the orange pi 5 but what is the difference between the RK3588 and RK3588S? I was considering purchasing mekotronics R58X and it looks like it's got the same everything the orange pi 5 has but more and everything is already completely set up and I wouldn't have to wait until at least the end of March
This is a good explanation

On Raxda's wiki there is a summary:
“Compared with RK3588, RK3588S mainly reduced the following features:
• one TPYEC/DP1.4 less
• one HDMI 2.1 TX/eDP1.4 less
• No HDMI RX
• three PCIE less(2x PCIE3.0 + 1x PCIE2.0), one SATA less
• one MIPI CSI less(1x4Lane or 2x2 Lane)
• one GMAC less(VCCIO3 Domain)”
@@josemarprete thanks!
@@josemarprete I ended up purchasing the h96 max v58 for $172 on AliExpress and it has exactly what I need. My intended purpose is retro-gaming particularly GameCube and PS2 and I'm after a better CPU and GPU then my Nvidia shield Pro currently has. I'm getting tired of the sketchy performance with these two systems and I have heard great things about the rk3588.
Is the image for batocera raspverri pi 4 diferent from this orange pi?
It’s more reliable on Pi 4. The Orange Pi 5 is much more powerful
Subscribed because of your content regarding the Orange Pi 5. Sadly they are currently too expensive.
Could you show the performance of Dead or Alive Millennium Edition (Retroarch flycast core, Naomi version), please? It's one of the hardest games to emulate with flycast/Naomi/Dreamcast. And if that runs everything will run regarding flycast.

@@kikwans6646 EmuELEC works for RockChip, but only for two Firefly models that are actually mini-pcs. See the explanation given to me by the Chinese 7Ji, from one of the developers, on the EmuELEC forum:
“CoreELEC and EmuELEC’s Amlogic images won’t work on Rockchip devices. There’re Rockchip images in 4.6 test releases but none of them are made for generic devices. The one seemed generic, rk356x, is just for Firefly M2 and P2 only.”
