1717 declined because they wanted to keep 2056 from getting paired with 67 or 1310, the rest of them thought they could pick better robots than us, 1310 was the only team that got really good picks though, they got 3824 as the 5th pick even though 3824 was the single best feeder-station-only robot in our division.
It's a long story, but we basically planned it, we knew they were going to decline us so we made sure to break up the power teams from pairing together.
at top level regionals and the championships teams think it is easy to build an alliance that can beet the no.1 seed but it is hard. Galileo 2012 8 beat 1 but lost to the eventual world champs. this year Orlando regional was won by the 8 seed
