Ah, the Sparta gold district! I’ve spent some time in that area and punched a few holes here and there also. Not much to show. Our only luck has been using detectors in some of the old workings and piles. Lucky enough to generally find some quartz with color. Curious if you’ve done any prospecting in the areas with live water in them? Many are under current claim, I know, but still some around. Specifically some waterways downstream from the bigger old timer mining operations that were so prevalent. Thanks for post! I look forward to our time in that area each summer!
Merry Christmas, Jack. Big thanks for the videos you put together this past year. Perhaps the area you’ve just prospected might benefit from a LiDAR survey; you know, all the telltale features and historic disturbances.
I've been prospecting in the Sumpter area for several years and the conditions are similar to the Sparta area. The best gold seems to be in the rusty red soil and not so much in the lighter tan colored soil.

Thank you for the video. Fun to learn some background info on prospecting and see some panning

I’m really looking forward to getting back up there this summer
I'm a fellow Oregonian and have a drywasher. Do you think the ground is dry enough in the late summer, there at Sparta?
What area of the country are you in ?? I live in the gold belt in north Georgia
