THIS! I thought he couldn't properly pronounce any "long" a sounds. Clearly I was wrong. He can't property pronounce Genovese for beans, but "cay-po" rolled off his tongue like a fresh lie.
I didn’t even consider that it was meant to be the kiss of death when they filmed it. It was just something Michael happened to do bc it showed just how betrayed he felt.
Kind of like how John Kramar from Saw never called himself Jigsaw the media gave him that name.
In this instance I think Coppola did it because it was impactful and the public labeled it the Kiss of Death. And the real mob was like “that was cool uh yeah sure we always do that!” They never used the term Godfather before the movie but apparently they started using it after the movie came out.
