the starting part of the episode was in the future (a time jump), but the rest of the episode is only a bit after the end of last season, as seen by mikasa still being injured by the titan grab.

There was no big time jump, they were talking about how mikasa was still injured from being grabbed by the titan.

@@tFighterPilot no its like 2 months after the second season , the finale of season 1 and 2 happened in like 2to3 days ))) and SPOILER when they return to shiganshina conny said that its 4 months since bertholdt attacked Trost so season 3 part 1 happens about 2 months after the second one . Hope its helpful )
@@unoexium1130 yeah so its like that , season 3 part1 takes place 2 months from season 2 and season 3 part 2 takes place 2 months from season 3 part 1 , and by all of that the season 3 part 2 takes place 4 months from season 1 and 2 .
For clarification: It hasnt been years, at most just a few weeks time jump, Ange said Eren looks older, that isnt the case, the animation just got more polished and refined compared to S1 and S2, its a very noticable step up in quality thats all
You could also say that Eren is just more mature now after all that shit that happened to him in the last few years and thats why he looks "older"....

Fun fact: A lot of readers complained about this arc being too slow in the manga. So Isayama decided to condense a lot of this arc into smaller portions. It's a shame though, there were some genuinely good character moments that were left on the cutting room floor due to blitzing through the initial content. As well as all the buildup for Kenny and certain mysteries being sucked away since it's all in your face for this episode. A not so fun fact, in some additional pages left out of the S2 finale, Historia has a mental breakdown once they get back to the walls because her mind can't handle Ymir being in danger. She begs Eren to go after her as she cries. Genuinely good moment that was unfortunately never animated. After that incident, Historia becomes more hollow, like you see in this episode.
Also, the guard who was feeling up Armin admitted to liking him, even after finding out he was a guy.

In the scene where Hange discovers Nick's body she immediately picks up on the hands of the Military Police Officer being damaged, this is how she understood it was them who did it hence that indirect threat speech that was in fact, very direct since she litterally meant it for the person right in front of her ! Hange is just the best !

Gotta appreciate the animation style getting better in these first few episodes compared to previous seasons.
Ps: guns are not introduced here. They're for population control used by interior. We saw them when Annie was revealed as the female titan back when they found out that some of the interior police were selling guns and equipments on the black market before Armin ambushed Annie.
Not to mention that they also used guns when they were shooting cannons or even rifles when they were shooting out the eyes of the Titans in S1 episodes when they had to kill 7 titans at the same time by using the elevator bait to blind them
they even shot cannons in s2. and there are always some on the walls

You see cannons being fired in the very first episode of the anime, or maybe the second episode at the latest (right before the armoured titan charged through the inner gate he even get's a cannon-ball to the face, but shruggs it off). And you also see hand-guns being used in season 1 when Trost district is attacked, when Armin had the plan to shoot the titans in the eyes to temporarily blind them, so the best fighters could cut them down from behind, even without any gas.
There was no time skip for this, this happens after what happened in Season 2. The only scene that had a time jump was the very first where Eren looks over the horizon having visibly longer hair.

This wasnt show in last season, but after rescue Eren once they reached the Wall Rose, Historia had a breakdown and beged Eren to go back using his power to bring Ymir back, crying because she didn't understand why and quoting "... she chose them over me. S- She said we'd live for our own sake together. But now she left me behind."
Guns haven't exactly been common, but we have seen them before. During the battle of Trost, shotguns were used to blind the titans in the supply room, and during Annie's scenes before her official reveal as the female titan, she and her comrades in the military police were equipped with rifles.
Plus, the walls are equipped with cannons, though if I recall we've only seen them actually used in episode one.
They haven't exactly been common because we've mostly been fighting titans and guns aren't very effective against titans.
We also saw cannon's used by the garrison in season 2 during the scene where Nanaba squad was fighting off titans
Not a shotgun. it was a musket i believe which is basically just a mini cannon.

so, s3 part 1 has my FAVORITE opening of the entire show “Red Swan” and you should listen to the full version
fun fact: Red Swan was performed by Yoshiki featuring Hyde, which are the biggest rockstars and Artists in Japan. it’s the equivalent of having Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson make your intro song (even if half the fandom didnt like the song)

There wasn't a big time jump, at most its been a few days since the last season and the reason they look older is just the animation quality got much better. Also notice that Kenny's group has ODM gear that was made to fight titans but instead of swords they have guns that work much better against normal humans more than titans.

Third season, finally! So happy you guys got this far already.
A little detail I want to clarify (even though it's probably been clarified already), it's been a couple of weeks since the fight with Reiner, not more than that. There's a change in animation, that's why they may look older.
Also, you can probably watch the opening now, this one doesn't really have spoilers (besides Kenny just being in it), just character moments.
I'm really looking forward to the next reaction, loved this one and the discussion.
12:05 it's actually just a week or 2. They look different in the art because there's that season 1 got released 4 years before season 2 and season 2 was released a year before season 3 part 1. So the time given made the art change. But they have just made it back...Levi organised his new squad and a week or 2 passed. That's it. Also once you finish this part(the whole season 3 part 1)you can read it's manga chapters. And stop before the next arc begins in the manga so you continue watching season 3 part 2. Because the manga had really good moments too. But you don't have to. Just optional. Also the anime is always the final product of the story.

Then there are the titans during the day, night happens in the tower but titan are still movings, then everything else happens the day after. Remember Reiner and Bertholdt were waiting for the night to move out of the forest with eren and ymir ? Well that would've been the night just after the one in the tower

You're right, this season is absolutely going to need a lot of concentration. It'll be hard for us to correct any mistakes or misinterpretations you make without spoiling stuff, so watching episodes back will be very useful.
Also, there are 4 seasons, but season 4 is currently on hold and the next part isn't coming until 2023, so at this rate you'll catch up!

I'm so happy that you are already at season 3, it is my personnal favorite! It is a bit different from season 1 and 2. I don't think there is months that pass after season 2, maybe just a couple of weeks. At the beginning, they talked about the fact that Mikasa could still be injured after getting grabed by a titan, which was at the end of season 2. Guns are not new on this show, soldiers are carrying some rifles. We saw some in some episodes. Season 1 and 2 are globally an intro for the series. Each episodes brought new theories and questions. Season 3 is different, you'll see as the season goes.
