  • In this video, I run 25km from Hull (where I currently live) to Beverley (where I grew up). This is my first video on UA-cam for months. I wanted to share some life updates with you all as a lot has happened since I finished the bike tour.
    Here is a link to the GPS file of my route on Kamoot: www.komoot.com/tour/195757017...
    I've been using Kamoot a lot recently to plan hikes, bikes and runs. I'd highly recommend the app.

    Don’t know if you are but I have recently gone primarily plant based and have sound it to be one of the most amazing things I have done for my self and my body, and I have found it to actually be surprisingly easy! Ever since doing a few bike trips I have become a huge water drinker now, and have really been able to stop drinking other beverages, love what you’re doing, looking forward to the van!

      That is awesome! Strangely enough, I've eaten very little meat over the last 6 weeks also and I'm feeling great also. I'm still eating fish, eggs and cheese but cutting the red meat and processed meat has helped considerably.

    Congrats on being 30 days clean. I am always in awe when I hear people quit drinking or doing drugs. I divorced a man who was an alcoholic. He wouldn't quit and chose it over his family. It has changed my life to leave him, in a good way. I found your channel from watching Girl in the Woods, when you were on your bike trip in Alaska. Keep up the amazing life that you enjoy so much.

    Yorkshire Man gives up the drink, read all about it, read all about it, never heard anything like it, moderation is the key. I used to frequent the Brown Cow public house in Yorkshire, every day they would have a happy minute, well you know what they say about being tight with money. Nice to see you back doing a vlog, hope you and your family are keeping safe and well.

    • @PathfinderBikepacking

      Cheers Mike. I always thought I was fine with moderation. That was until moderation turns into most days, easily 10 pints + and when you continuously have to visit the hospital because your stomach lining has eroded which causes bleeding and severe gastric pain. Of all the drugs that are legal and are socially excepted, alcohol is the worse one. If you can drink in moderation and it not have it effect your health, thats great but I feel for me, those days are over.
      I hope you are keeping well.

    Nothing wrong with mixing the walking and running. I was a distance runner for decades but injuries forced me to stop running so much. I am an avid walker and basically have replaced running with walking. Cycling is awesome too. I have quit drinking too. I was a drinker in the past... Served in the Canadian Army and that was definitely and influence to drink in the past. Stay healthy and strong! Persistence is the key.

    So glad too hear from you again. I really thought something bad had happened, you had a live stream ready to run and too much time went buy and no updates. Again glad to see a new video. Nice job on quitting the booze , if you feel like a slip is coming on jump on and make a quick live stream you have 11k followers here that can help. And if need be, then get back to touring on bike . You won't be able to drink all day and tour on bike. Thx again for coming back to us. Your videos were an inspiration for me to travel on bike and when I get the gear , I'm going to try and tour the western side of the US for a year.

    Great run Adam. Running was always my first love but numerous soft tissue injuries made me take up cycling. Boring is good as I gave alcohol up over 40 years ago and even though I lost mates it was a price worth paying as I didn't have those mornings after a night on the lash feelings. Be careful with those Calypo's Adam as I am now trying to lose weight after eating too many of them cake & biscuits. Looking forward to the van videos. Regards to Katy

    Hey Adam, glad to hear about you not drinking. In December I was having a drink with my meal and then 30 mins later I was being sick and spent the whole night vomiting bile. Brushed it off as a stomach bug until the same thing happened again on christmas day. Not 100% sure it was the alcohol but decided to give it up anyway. Also I hated that feeling of getting to 7pm on a Friday or Saturday night and getting some drinks from an off license because I 'needed' a drink to relax. Found the transition fine so far, lime and tonic is a nice alternative to G&T by the way!

    • @PathfinderBikepacking
      @PathfinderBikepacking  4 роки тому

      Well done Robert. I've had gastric problems most of my 20's which I'm sure is down to excessive drinking. I eventually went to the hospital after another bought of severe stomach pain and sickness and had a camera into my stomach. Turns out I had gastritis which is where your stomach lining has perished and your stomach is bleeding. That was just before I set off on the bike trip 2 years ago. I'm absolutely done with drinking now.Lime and tonic it will be.

    5:38 makes me miss the UK...
    Unfortunately I can't run because my knee will collapse under the strain, probably because I ran too much on hard surfaces with inappropriate footwear as a teen.
    I think you made the right decision with the alcohol. I've worked with alcoholics and it is frighteningly easy to drop into over drinking. I also grew up in an alcohol free home, so I've never really got into drinking the stuff.
    I'm a bit miffed that you've moved away from Hull though: I was planning to ask you to guide me through the city by bike next time I came over on the ferry to visit my parents in York.

    You’ll think I’m dogging you a bit with the amount of comments recently but I’m watching, enjoying and getting a fair bit of learning from you so when things occur, and being a direct soul, I tend to just say them ...
    You mentioned canoeing in this ...
    here’s something I can do for you and whoever ....
    I run an open canoe outfitter in the Massif Central if SW France covering pretty much every river in the Massif. We are Canadian boats and not a “half day” hire sit on top type thing ... it’s more about a down river multi day trip.
    This ain’t an ad mate, it is a thought that I could maybe give you something
    Due to COVID and U.K. travel restrictions, we essentially don’t have a season this year so ...
    Come when you like, get hold of me direct and pick a river and I’ll kit you out and sort the trip. No cost ... I’ve watched almost everything you gave us during lockdown so I owe you.

    hi adam! how do you typically train for touring? running? i've been watching your france, andorra, spain, gibraltar vids. you did 2050km in 27 days? a mean of 76km or 47 miles a day? i'll ride about 100km+ on the weekend now, but how do you train to do that distance w/ gear, in a place you've never been, every day, w/ massive climbs, etc.!? i guess it's the everyday part that seems rough & not being so sore after a one long day to bike another 70km+.

    • @PathfinderBikepacking
      @PathfinderBikepacking  4 роки тому

      If I'm honest, I don't do anything special as far as training goes. Before the bike tour I would probably run 3-4 times a week (between 8-14km steady runs) and ride my bike to work every day. I would go hiking a lot and play squash and rugby most weeks.
      The best training for a bike tour is riding a fully loaded touring bike. After about a week of touring, I no longer feel stiff when I ride. If I get tired during the day, I take a long rest. 74km isn't too far when you have all day to do it in the summer (long days) and nothing else to do. Hope that helps.

    • @j.m.9002
      @j.m.9002 4 роки тому

      thanks for the advice! interesting. i've been 'powerwalking' w/ weights & weight lifting during the week then biking weekends. i guess i worry because i was exhausted after a 75km ride last saturday, but it was also hot here (29C or 85F+). then add being in a foreign country where one doesn't speak the language, etc.. i guess that's true if you have 16 or so hours awake every day then 74km isn't too bad. i haven't toured in years & want to once it's safe / allowed rather then put it off any longer. i've been reading igor kovse's blog & like the idea of trying to travel as lightly as possible. anyway, i'll probably ask advice on shipping bikes or whatever at some point or scour the web. thanks!
