Guys try to understand the main aim of this test is not about seats but fuel tank. It has been passed perfectly

I didn't expect the seats to behave like that in a volvo

Adrian Eydi i drive the 2009 model year and feel totally safe in this spacious car. Not the best selling Volvo in the US so not many around. In regards to this car ash test I believe the seats are supposed to absorb some of the impact energy by collapsing rearward to some degree. In this case it seems that the seats did collapsed quite severe and farther than ideal. Rear passenger would have been killed or severely injured in a crash of this type. The good thing is knowing that there was no fuel leak in the test which is very good. Hope to never get into this type of crash.

I’m thinking the WHIPS system might be to blame for that. Possibly a weak point beyond the intended function

You ppl realize that in a rear crash you do not thrash forward first, right? Lol. You are pushed backwards like the front occupants and then forward so with the WHIPS system reclining the front seats as they retracted forward anyone in back won’t make contact with the seats.

Even so, the degree to which the seatbacks whipped backwards is disconcerting.

Horrible! Front seats collapsed!!! The rear passengers would be crushed!
Unless it was intentionall, because sensors detected no rear passengers. But we just don't know.

The front seats are not supposed to go that far back! Going that far back could cause the occupant to slide out and get seriously injured/paralyzed and also to hit the second-row occupants, killing or injuring them. There were many cases in the US of people getting paralyzed by sliding out of their seats... and children in the second row getting killed by the front seats.

People are standing up for this crash too much. The seatbacks failed. No matter if it has a "WHIPS" System or not. Notice how the seats stayed in the failed position after the crash? That's not what the WHIPS System should do. The seats should go back to an upright position. Newer Volvos don't have their seats fall that far into the back seat. If there were rear passengers they would be critically injured. Front passengers could be paralyzed too. I've seen videos of Corollas and Civics performing better. And those are small cars.

Wasn't expecting to see an abysmal failure of the seats in a volvo.

They are supposed to do that to dampen the impact. Its called WHIPS in volvo cars

Ujw Plays they dont fold back long enough to crush their legs, and the people in the back are pushed into their seats at the same time. Volvo knows what they are doing when it comes to safety

@@SuperMrminecraftdude You are not right at all, here the seats broke completely and tilted completely injuring the passengers in the back. See a movie on how the WHIPS system should work, it's definitely not like that.
