    Noooooooooo!
    Aw bless, there was no need to go through such a high anxiety process. I just took the two wires from the neck pickup and swapped them over and had my neck pickup out of phase in 70 seconds while this video was playing.
    👃I want everyone to know it doesn't have to be this much effort to get the out of phase tone, to save you all from unnecessary work & potential problems.

      Hi, thanks for commenting this to the thread. I will pin it to the top of the comments. However, there's several pages of discussions going on about magnetically vs electrically out of phase. I think you might be right that tonewise it won't matter, but my intention with the process shown in the video was to do what supposedly was done to Peter Green's pickups. All the best, Thor

      Also, many pickups don’t have 4 wires, only 2. So doing it electronically is not possible. Great video!

      i've tried both options, and the difference is fairly subtle, but it is definitely there. Done it on 2 different pair of paf clones. Magnetically out of phase gives a slightly thicker, hotter and fuller sound and is closer to the Greeny sound, which is what he's trying for (and really getting!) Flipping the wires will only get you ballpark>

      Yeeeeeees!! That's the correct way. You flip magnet 180°. It works. Anxiety bro I'm adhd was on riddling back in the 80s. You must teach yourself patience, man. Doing something you love calms everything. Well at least for me.

      A switch doesn't work on pickups with braided shield conductors, the magnet flip is the only option

    I was just curious to hear what the Peter Green out of phase guitar tone sounded like, and suddenly UA-cam thinks that's all I want to see in my feed. Please kill me 😂

    I believe that the pickup was flipped to indicate visually which pickup had had its magnets changed, in other words, it had no effect on the sound at all BUT was a marker to remind the tech which pickup he had modded.

    If the neck pickup is the older style 2 conductor type wire rather than the more modern 4 conductor wire; all you have to do is simply remove the control cavity cover and reverse the 2 wires (which reverses the pickup's polarity), rather than taking the pickup out, then taking it apart and turning the magnet around.

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, it is the Neck pickup that is flipped around. Really just for the looks of the "Greeny" Les Paul. If you search for images of Peter Green's famous Les Paul you'll see it has the pickup the same way.

    Very enjoyable video. Thank you sir. Quick question: is the top of your guitar made of plywood?..

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  Рік тому

      Thank you, I'm really not sure, and also became a bit unsure if the guitar is a LS700 or LS500. There's very little info to find about these guitars. But as you can see in the pickup cavity it might be that at least in that area there is some kind of laminate or plywood. I've now sold this guitar, so I can't go back in to check. All the best, Thor

    So too kinda sum it up in order to achieve his out of phase tone just roll the bridge volume a bit higher then neck in middle position?

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  Рік тому

      Hi, I think it's not that straight forward... So many factors come in to play. His touch, amp, the specific guitar and components and so on. I also think one guitar compared to another will sound different and also the chosen pickups of course. But what you suggest is a way to feel your way to what your ears will tell you is close to the magical tones 😀 All the best!

    Hi, a question. At the same time you turned the magnet, did you also turn the pickup upside down?
    Thank you, sorry for the English, I'm from Argentina.

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi, I'm just online now and will answer right away 😃 You don't have to turn the pickup upside down. It won't affect the out of phase tone at all. I guess it happened with Peter Green's pickup by accident, or maybe it will give a marginal brighter tone to the neck pickup if the pole pieces are turned around so they are closer to the bridge. All the best, Thor

    Perhaps it's the pickups used, but these did not have the twangy sound I have seen from other mods like this.

    Using the top of your guitar as a workbench? Well that’s one way to relic it, I suppose! Great licks though. I shall be trying those. Thanks.

      Hi thanks, yes I'm a bit sloppy when it comes to protecting my guitar when I work on them. But as you say, it for sure is one way to put some nice dings on them 😀

  • @mizonuna9170

    I'm gonna do this with my guitar..

  • @socialmeaslesinpartnership1252

    The obvious thing would have been to record the guitar before you did the mod so we get an "A" "B" reference, especially on a guitar that is uncommon so we've never heard one. But..let's not ever be obvious, eh?
    The other thing is removing the cover. It's by far the trickiest part and the most liable to go a bit wrong. Like.....solder all over the guitar or dings where you dropped a red hot cover on your guitar etc. I think the most informative thing would have been to actually film that because it's quite a lump of solder to heat and detach, then keep it separated while you do the other side? Slotted screwdriver perhaps to wedge it while it cools?
    Nice playing though and good to see how Peter Green did some of his stuff. Thank you.

    You can leave the pickup in the correct position. Doesn't make a difference. The magnet was flipped thats what is important.

    Thanks for playing tasty - like a MUSICIAN!! 🙂 Too, at 11:49 you could use your pinky, then release it to the third finger. Just sayin'!

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  Рік тому

      Thanks for your kind words 😊 Your comment about using the pinky is absolutely on target. I have sadly developed my playing style with not incorporating it much in my playing. I tested it now, and it works, even for me. Maybe I'll start forcing myself to make better use of it. Thanks!

    Can someone explain to me why this guitar doesn't sound like a "real" Gibson LP?
    um, um maybe better than most of them.
    Nice tone, feeling too.
    The only thing I don't like is the color, it's a shame that it's not lemon drop-Greeny color.

    • @GUITARSGIZMOS
      @GUITARSGIZMOS  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, I’ve actually tried that and it, at least to my ears, results in a different kind of out of phase sound. But you sure correct that it will give you an out of phase tone. Cheers, Thor
