Just bought one of these and the video was really helpful to get me going. Even though the instructions are good, you can't beat watching someone who has used it.
Like you I take away the drip tray & use beakers about 3/4 the size of your Notts County ones! But I keep the coffee flowing all the time, even when the light goes out. It doesn't dispense cold coffee as you suggested. Try leaving it to fill all the way to about 1/2" from the rim. Then froth your milk. I use a stainless steel beaker with a thermometer on the side. They're not expensive, but then you can get exactly the right temperature of the milk. We use Lavazza Italiano no 5 strength & it gives us a superb coffee. We have to limit ourselves otherwise we would be drinking it all day, it's so good! Also, I give the frother nozzle a quick squirt into a cloth, because that gets rid of the water that always comes out of the nozzle before the steam. Then you can put the nozzle into the milk ready for frothing. We love our coffees made with the DeLonghi Scultura. It's realively cheap but makes fabulous coffee.
Thank you so much for your video. I’ve got the same machine yesterday and I’m finding the structures hard to understand. I think they have slightly changed since you did this video because they don’t look so straightforward to the one that you were showing that’s why I looked up a video to try and help me and you have so thanks.
Sorry I’ve got one question to ask you in your video you say using no filter and just placing coffee into a single or double capsule or whatever you call those things and I tried that with a single shot and it wasn’t coming out and it was just filling up with coffee in the actual handle part then , the filter, which has got the rubber sealant round it, and it worked. So basically I’m asking why have you not as my machine is exactly the same and it came with two rubber sealant and the instructions didn’t say you had to. I’m confused
I was like you Graham, initially thinking that I doubt if I'll use this much.Ha NOOOO Love the damn thing. Having fresh coffee is great. I would recommend this machine but with a couple of provisos . The steamer does not sit as far into the drip tray as I'd like so it drips over the drip tray edge and onto the counter. Also do not leave the filter arm locked in place so long it cools down because the arm will detach but the coffee filter will stay in place and it can be a struggle to remove.
Very helpful video, thank you! I have another type of Delonghi that has reached it's EOL now, looking to replace it. Super helpful to see how it works in real life. External water tank is really handy.
Thank you for giving such a clear explanation on how to use this machine. Having had my coffee machine for over a year I can now finally use it, thanks to you !
Thinking about one of these machines seen as mine just broke. Good video. I wanted to see how it worked and if it gave a good crema. My only criticism is you are over extracting the coffee. The perfect shot of 14g of ground coffee and dispensed between 18-24 seconds (and technically at 9 bar)Anything out of this range will give a terribly bitter espresso. I'm a coffee machine engineer for swiss coffee machines used in McDonald's, Starbucks and Gregg's and timing the shot is essential for a nice tasting coffee. Apart from that, great review.
Actually, these cheaper Delonghi machines give you single and double shot filters, but the extraction does not have an option for either one or two cups like you get on more expensive models, so it will always be out of sync if you don't use only one cup. Then even using one cup, the amount of water used for a single of double shot is likely the same, so that is out of sync as well. No doubt there is some type of obsessive person (like can be found on some UA-cam coffee channels) that would weigh all the coffee and water and moan about the imperfect ratio.
slicedpage It does get easier as you get the knack of doing it. Also make sure you don’t put too much coffee in that will make it easier. Glad you found the video useful enjoy your coffee.
@@ProductReviewsHelp thanks for the quick response. My wife has mild arthritis in her hands so mugso here is making the brews . I know she'd like to make her own so knowing the holder gets easier to use is good to know.
Can I just say, stopping the machine, is absolutely killing your coffee, it’s supposed to go out.you have primed your grounds, then the water finishes the coffee. please do not follow these instructions, , its so wrong. I thank you for showing the machine, but go watch some videos on how to actually make coffee. My guess your coffee tasted bitter.
No Sir ! CrankyGamersUK is absolutely right. I have a friend who is barista. Nobody does that. Also if you do the original cappuccino, you never sprinkle it with cinnamon, cocoa, chocolate.... Of course you are free to do it. But if you want to drink the original coffee like ristretto, espresso, lungo, doppio or cappuccino you need to learn a lot. And there is always time to do it right. Peace ;)
Can someone clarify please, with delonghi dedica the water stops automatically, but with scultura the water continuously drops even though it is clear, so it means you have to wait and stop it manually? Thank you.
If you don't stop this machine you get 150ml or more of liquid, which, as you know is not an espresso. Cappuccino, latte, flat whites etc. are all based on 1 espresso shot of approx 30ml. So the reviewer is correct to stop when light goes out.
Hi, finding it difficult to clean the espresso nossle (not sure how to disassemble it from the unit). If possible, please do a video on cleaning, and also how to descale. Many thanks!
Hiya, About to buy this but looked for reviews. Thanks for yours, very detailed. Would you still recommend this machine after having it so long now? Have you upgraded to a different machine or found easier ways to use it now?
We are still using it and we’re very pleased with it. I have found that I don’t have to keep switching it off so when the green light comes on I start the coffee flowing and leave it until my cup is full.
@@OscarsWilde Not sure what you are asking, you can use large mugs take out the drip tray and leave coffee running until mug if full. Don’t let water reservoir run dry it makes a horrible loud noise.

HELP!!!! I am setting up the machine and it makes a dreadful racket . In the fault finding section of the manual it suggests that the water tank needs filling when it is full. I can get steam but no water comes out the coffee filter. Any ideas?
Panic over. The machine had an air block and by using the steamer to force water through it then that led to the coffee part working properly and more quietly...phew. I hate sending things back anyway. Sorry for the flap. I didn't delete this in case anyone else came across this problem.
slicedpage when you want water and not steam make sure the steam button isn’t pressed in. The noise may be because the water was low and then you filled it, if you allow it to run dry it does make a noise and for a while when filled up but soon stops.
@@ProductReviewsHelp Thank you for the quick reply. I cleaned the filter, the top one, and it was not the same after that. So Amazon is sending another tomorrow. Blows my tiny mind how fast they can deliver these days. Have you descaled your machine yet? If so any tips?
This is not how you use it at all! 🤦♀️ Put about 8g of coffee grounds into the single cup filter, or 16g into the double one. Then pour the water through for 10 seconds into a small jug or espresso cup (20 seconds for a double shot). Separately, fill your mug with hot water from the wand (in water dispenser mode, not steam mode) and tip the poured espresso into it.
There is a much better review of this machine on you tube, this one is ridiculous. You are supposed to make an espresso then build your drink from that if you want a larger creamy drink use the milk steamer NOT WATER FROM A KETTLE and don't keep pressing the hot water again and again.

@@iltestaverde Actually, as someone who has been working as a barista for almost 10 years, multiple trainings including Allpress; when making an americano/long black on a commercial machine you're supposed to half fill the cup with hot water and then extract your shot. If you just extract a longer shot to fill up the cup, it makes it sour. To the gentleman who made the video I'd advise putting the kettle water in the cup first rather than after the shot has been poured, but honestly, it's not the end of the world. One more thing ... place your holder in the arm, then tamp, you stand less chance of loosening your grounds when clicking in.
Good review and starter instructions, another thing to consider is that more grounds does not necessarily give better coffee/crema.
A calmly sequenced, comprehensive and detailed analysis of the coffee machine. Thank you.
