      Hey Joseph thanks for the feedback. What makes you think this, any particular reason? Personally, I think if a beginner looks at it and ignores 60% of the features then it’s still a good one to learn. There’s a few little touches that can then make a big difference to the edit like keyframes, multi clip editing etc.I am going to create a few more filmora videos so if there’s anything I can help with please let me know 🙂 thanks again!

      Ill say I am new to Filmora. I downloaded Kinemaster on my IPAD and then went to get it for the our MAC. I got Filmora and was so excited that I bought it that night. I mostly make sports related stuff for the kids. Ive been impressed so far. Im not exactly a beginner maybe slightly above it. I’d recommend it. I do agree that there are many features that are either above me.

      I do however create simpler tutorials (advanced ones too) on a variety of tools for creators. For instance, I have a full step by step guide to basic UA-cam video editing due soon.

    Bottom line for me: I got Da Vinci Resolve (full version) for free with a Black Magic Design 6K camera I bought 2 years ago - the Filmora software was still attractive for me for "quick and dirty" video editing (that's just an expression - I'm not referring to any sort of naughty stuff) - I was mainly using it for footage shot with a Panasonic GH5 - which I've held on to. So - there I was - paying out a monthly subscription to Wondershare for their Filmora 12 version - and - every so often - an update - at no extra cost. Lately an "upgrade" - not an "update" (I do understand the distinction) to Filmora 13 was offered to me - it turns out to be an "offer I cannot refuse" as my attempts to export videos I've edited with my current Filmora 12 - without a watermark - have all failed. That is despite Wondershare continuing to take their monthly payment off me. Result: Wondershare has lost this customer - I've cancelled my subscription. Despite being a lawyer, I haven't bothered investigating what Wondershare is up to - I will say it's very user friendly software with - even before the "upgrade" - some pretty useful features. Nevertheless Da Vinci Resolve in its latest version (and remember the abridged version is downloadable for free) has some very clever features too (on top of world class colour grading tools). By all means use (and pay) for the Wondershare product - I just do not like the foregoing sort of practice. Will those who "upgrade" to Filmora 13 be in a similar position to myself in - say 2 years' time - when "Version 14" is launched ????

    • @JonDavis
      @JonDavis  4 місяці тому

      Thankyou for the feedback and sorry to hear you’ve had such a difficult time with filmora. There upgrade/update policy does seem problematic to say the least. I know a lot of companies restrict to major versions, but if you are paying monthly then that shouldn’t matter imo. A few people have mentioned davinci. I have looked before but didn’t give it time for the learning curve required. Maybe one to revisit at some point thanks again and best wishes with your video creation

    Firstly, thank you for making this video, because the ai tools look very underwhelming, you saved a lot of people time and frustration. I have to say im so shocked filmora released this in this in such a poor state. In the past they were thorough in making sure features worked properly. Looks like they rushed to make a quick buck. I feel like this will hurt their reputation. They really should have spent more time polishing before release.
    To add insult to injury, i have the lifetime license yet filmora didn't offer give me the free upgrade with my lifetime and wanted me to pay, so it looks like they are back to not honoring the lifetime members, here we go with the lifetime fiasco again. In all honesty, this isn't worth the upgrade and i will stick with my version 12. Your explanation and testing was amazing. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the video. I have version 12. In version 13, can I export a clip in ProRes format so that it will carry alpha for a transparent background? In 12 I have to awkwardly export in webm format and then use a converter to get my masked clip in ProRes so that the background is transparent.

    • @JonDavis
      @JonDavis  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey. Got to be honest I know very little about formats capable of this. Just looked in the export options and I don’t see ProRes. There is Webm and GoPro Cineform that both have options to export the alpha channel. Sounds like you’ve used webm before. Is the GoPro format any better?

    • @cult_enjoyer
      @cult_enjoyer 4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the response. GoPro format export was strangely removed sometime in version 12. The reason this is an important feature is to be able to save meticulously masked clips to be used in other projects outside of Filmora. ProRes4444 carries alpha (transparency created from masking), so it doesn't need conversion. There are fairly easy workarounds using other apps but it would be cool if Filmora could become my all-in-one. You've confirmed my thought. Thanks. @@JonDavis

      I think there are diff options for video and photo. Ai is extremely good at photo, look at midjourney, mind blowing.
      It isn’t quite there with video. I’ve seen some stunning stuff with runway but it isn’t a video editor.
      I will release a video this week explaining why I still recommend filmora. But not for the AI. I think they have chased AI functionality to no real benefit.

    I know that filmora is great just from the few times I've used it I think that annoys me is the subscription you can be pretty expensive and I don't personally know which of the plans I should go with Perpetual what if a film or a 14 comes out and if I get the annual and I don't use it within the year I just be putting $40 into a service I don't really utilize. Mind you I'm a student that would like to learn how to do video editing/audio for voice acting and such so honestly I'm kind of stuck between the two. The other thing is I don't know how useful all of the AI upgrades will be to me to be completely honest I would be fine with Fillmore at 12 however I can see how some of these AI features would be beneficial would it be better off just sticking with filmora 12 or should I at least upgrade to 13 just so I could have the benefit of these upgrades

    • @JonDavis

      Licensing can be very confusing. My understanding is you can pay the fee each year and that will entitle you to upgrades. You can pay perpetual for that particular update. I have seen them honour new versions when they are released within certain timeframes. Definitely worth studying the small print. I’m lucky with those one as I got into one of the old old licences where lifetime meant lifetime, sadly they don’t offer that anymore.
      What I would add. I do think it’s still good value when you consider the cost of others, especially adobe!

    After upgrade from 12 to 13.031 version I am experiencing serious problems with stability and operation of basic functions. The split button randomly disappears, motion tracking hangs, you can't edit the size of the mosaic added to motion tracking, and much more. I went back to version 12.

      I feel your pain. Sadly there isn’t any tooling I have seen. Most stuff that promises ai editing is garbage.
      The choices are to outsource or put the time in yourself.
      It is time consuming though. I think once you find a good editor it’s worth keeping them close. But it can be hard work finding one. I’ve tried a few and end up doing it myself. Especially early on when you may not earn enough to cover costs of a good editor.
      I would learn the basics. Keep it simple and consistent.
      UA-cam is favouring less edited content at the moment. As long as your message is on point and you only say what needs to be said etc

    May i ask, which of two versions is better? Annual or perpetual? I mean does perpetual has less packages effects? What do you suggest?

    • @JonDavis
      @JonDavis  2 місяці тому

      Always double check on their site but my understanding…
      Annual is a repeat cost each year and you always get access to the latest version
      Perpetual is a one off cost but only for that version. So if they release v14 you wouldn’t get access and would need to pay for it.
      For example if you bought v14 and was happy with that version for 3-5 years it would be more cost effective than annual.
      I am sure there are exceptions but that’s my take on it
      In terms of functionality afaik they are identical.

    • @81vasoula
      @81vasoula 2 місяці тому +1

      @JonDavis yes I get it all. But I saw in some comments from other sites that you have to pay for same effect packages in perpetual version. Is it true or just rumors?

    • @JonDavis
      @JonDavis  2 місяці тому +1

      @81vasoula so they do have a thing called filmstock/creative assets that is related to a lot of the templates and effects so that’s true. Not sure if they include filmstock in any of the packages or upsell them. I don’t bother with it but there are lots of good effects now. You still get access to a number of effects without it. May be worth checking if any filmora plan includes it, I don’t think they do but I’m not 100%. Sorry I can’t be more accurate.

    I've used the filmora 13's, voice to text and text to voice AI and the only way to accurately describe them is that they are garbage. The conversion accuracy would in my opinion be around 60% if that. I moved away from descript as I thought I wouldn't need it now that I have filmora 13, but filmora 13 doesn't come close. They have disabled many transitions, my quick text no longer works, much of the stock media is disabled, and I feel like they are punishing me for not upgrading. If they arent going to upgrade 12 for free, I wish they would just leave it alone and not tamper with it in any way. They also do other slimey things, and I want to make a video against them, but that doesn't work with my platform! Sorry for the rant, but I'm so frustrated, and I'm ready to ditch filmora once and for all. If anyone has suggestions for the best replacement, let me know plz!
